Gravewood High - Rudolf Winter
Dear students,

We have prepared a surprise for you! Every year, at the end of October, the school undergoes strange transformations. Gravewood High is ready to entice you with pumpkin-related events, created to instill fear in everyone who dares enter the place.

The frightening metamorphoses have not spared Mr. Hyde either. It's not just about appearances — the Teacher has learned a few new skills that will turn your little trick-or-treat game into a nightmare.

Moreover, some vandal has scattered dozens of pumpkins around the school, and we would appreciate it if you could crush them all into little chunks.

But keep an eye on Mr. Hyde, he doesn’t like it when someone is trying to ruin his Halloween!

Beyond a Steel Sky - Revolution
HAPPY HALLOWEEN

And oh boy do we have treats for you! Let's get right to it:

TRADING CARDS

You asked and we delivered: Trading Cards are now live!
To give them something truly special and personal, they are largely made up of never-before-seen concept art. Our characters have gone through a lot of iterations through the design phase so you might even find some inconsistencies. All part of the charm (we hope!).

EMOTICONS
We couldn't give you Trading Cards and not include emoticons.
No literally, that's how the system is set up!
We went through a few drafts and hope we ended up with a variety of emoticons that are both fun, and give you loads of opportunity to use them in conversations. And YES there is a clown, but that's all we're gonna say! Happy hunting!

25% OFF
This is the biggest discount we've had so far, but we felt like it's autumn, and with the year we've all been having you deserve it! You might wanna pick it up now if you're thinking of gifting it to a friend for the holidays cause we're not sure we can match this one so quickly again!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1146310/Beyond_a_Steel_Sky/

And now, for our shortest Patch Notes ever (yes this is a lowkey brag! Please be happy for us!).

SEE YOU LATER, ELEVATOR
This one was devious because it was one of those bugs that occurred when you saved and reloaded the Aspiration Gala after the technician had gone up in the elevator.
The elevator then reloaded being on the bottom of the level, wide open and really inviting.. but entering it would do absolutely nothing. It really felt like a blocker, but surprisingly it was even more misleading..

Let's backtrack:
The game essentially relies on hint states, kind of like a stage setting in a theatre!
Hint Stage 6 for example means "elevator down".
But the Elevator itself didn't understand it was supposed to be down. While it was set to be downstairs it did not know what script to reference, because it was literally off-script.
Like a time traveller, or a really bad play with that one kid who never knows what's going on so they made them a tree and they still somehow managed to bomb? That.

The elevator now remembers what part of the game we're all on, and will no longer try and distract you prematurely!

FALLOUT BOY
Someone, not naming ANY names, kept pushing the boundaries - quite literally..
A little secret about gamedev is that if the player can't reach it, it's probably not real.
It takes a LOT of memory to load in objects, and they are not actually necessary to display things! We talked about NavMesh in previous patch notes, which to briefly recap is exactly what it sounds like: a mesh to navigate on. This is used for railroading NPCs, making things have physical boundaries, etc.

Now, when we make these boundaries to keep you OUT of parts of the game, it's because we don't want you to see!!! Cause there is very little we actually waste physical memory on. It's all a sham! Beyond where you can walk is nothing but illusions!!!

But some of you keep finding ways through and we keep patching them up. Probably till forever!
So for now we again, improved meshes, which is fancy for “You can now bump into stuff better” - Enjoy!

WENDELL'S MOUSTACHE
Wendell is a simple guy, but he does take pride in his moustache.
I lied. Wendell has been nothing but trouble. First he walked around blocking everyone. Then he wouldn't stay in his chair, and now he's fully derailing the camera to zoom into his moustache.
God damnit Wendell.

Actually to be fair this time it wasn't quite him, it was his umbrella. When you, the player, would approach Wendell from a specific angle, the umbrella would block the camera, putting it into a tight spot. The camera was using Foster's and Wendell's location to try and find the best angle and tried to make an executive call. Boom: A fullscreened moustache closeup.

We found a super elegant solution to this though: A scripted approach!
So now when you, the player, try to start a conversation from an angle like this, Foster will take a few steps to align himself in front of Wendell. Don't worry it's still his good side.

BIRDEMIC
City Walls now has more bird. We will not elaborate. But you’re still welcome.

REGINALD CONSPIRACY
When Reginald comes out of his little room you were able to examine him, and the game would be talking about him like he was a MINOS terminal. For no reason at all. It now refers to him as a person again. Which he is. Yup.

4YR U SO QUIET
When 4YR gets..... too far for you to reach in a cutscene, it was impossible to understand what he was saying! He even got the little speech bubbles with the dots in them for when you’re too far away to hear an NPCs dialogue. Not very accessible.

You can now hear relevant lines loudly enough, but don't worry - the game will still allow you to walk away if you get tired of his moaning.

CUTSCENES IMPROVED
You transition into them better. Whenever you get to a point to trigger a cutscene it will now slow you down ahead of that, almost stepping into it if you will (and you will).
It looks so smooth and we're all geeking out over it!

MENU REVAMP
We tried something new and exciting.
It's more segmented, cleaner, and features different cards.
We’re super happy with it and hope you are too!

There are some more tiny adjustments and fixes, but what’s a puzzle game without a little mystery..

This patch really showed us how far we've come in a short time, thanks to all of you.
So many of you are in steady communication with us, and it's honestly heartwarming how positive and supportive this community has been.

Let's not sugar-coat it. This year has been a lot, but you all make us wanna finish strong.

For those of you who want to, feel invited to join our Discord: discord.gg/revolutionsoftware
We are on there all the time, and on Fridays we even play games together with our Community.
We'd love to see more of you there!

All the best from the whole team at Revolution

ART GALLERY
The next level in our Map and Enemy spotlight series is the Art Gallery! Home to Dandy Ace’s first boss Axolangelo, the Master of the Arts, and his Art Apprentices. Take a look around at the showcased museum assets, paintings, and sculptures found within Axolangelo’s Art Gallery but don’t stare too long and most importantly.... DO NOT TOUCH!

The Art Gallery comes after the Entrance Hall and Banquet Hall levels if Ace chooses to continue down that path. Players can expect the difficulty to begin to ramp up upon entry into the Art Gallery leading up to Axolangelo’s Atelier, where you’ll take on Axolangelo himself. Cuckoo Nightmares, Totems, Midnight Phantoms, Art Apprentices, and Bunny Butlers & Jesters stand guard over the valuable pieces of art Ace will have to maneuver around while avoiding attacks.

Ace will also need to watch his step as the ground is littered with one of the first environmental hazards found in Dandy Ace, Spike Traps. After stepping onto the trap and a short delay, the trap will activate dealing damage to anyone found on top of it. Ace is able to utilize the traps himself by luring or knocking enemies onto them to deal a good chunk of damage. It's always important to be careful where you blink and dash to!

ART APPRENTICE
A somewhat miniature version of Axolangelo, the Art Apprentice utilizes it’s art skills to battle against Ace. The Art Apprentice is easily recognizable by its weapon of choice, its trusty giant paintbrush. While the paintbrush may not look too dangerous up close, it excels in ranged combat by covering large areas in waves of paint.

When at range the Art Apprentice will swing his giant paintbrush sending a blue Paint Wave that expands over time as it travels. The wave begins fairly small but quickly grows to cover entire pathways and larger parts of the level so Ace will need to quickly move out of the way or run quite a ways back to avoid taking hits. The real difficulty comes in when attempting to avoid several waves coming at Ace at once from multiple Art Apprentices at different ranges as the waves will vary in size. Similar to the Bunny Jester discussed previously, the Art Apprentice will Tumble away if Ace manages to get too close before continuing to send out additional Paint Wave attacks from range.

AXOLANGELO

Once you find your way through the Art Gallery, you’ll stumble upon Dandy Ace’s first Boss in Axolangelo’s Atelier. The development team wanted to lean into the artist stereotypes when creating a boss centered around the Art Gallery and really liked the Axolotl animal. By combining the Axolotl with famous artist Michelangelo the team was able to create Axolangelo, the Master of the Arts! With a paintbrush in his hand and an art apron around his neck, Axolangelo is ready to unleash his art skills to kick Ace out of the Art Gallery.

With a wide range of paint based attacks, Axolangelo will have the player constantly on the move trying to avoid them. Axolangelo’s most basic of attack’s is his Brush Stroke. If within range, Axolangelo will attempt to swing at Ace in an AoE cone in front of him. The area will remain covered in paint for a short period of time dealing damage to Ace if stepped on. Similar to that of the Art Apprentice but bigger, Axolangelo is able to send out a large Paint Wave that expands over time as it travels to prevent Ace from remaining at range safely.

The Atelier is a large open space so Axolangelo has to cover areas of the level in paint from above to restrict Ace’s movement options. Axolangelo relocates himself to the center of his Atelier after which he begins to rain Paint Drops down on top of Ace’s current position one by one. Upon landing the area will remain covered in paint for a period of time dealing damage to Ace if stepped on. Axolangelo will also periodically surround himself with Painter’s Aura damaging anything he is able to get close enough to as he chases Ace.

While Axolangelo may be big, he sure can move! If you manage to anger Axolangelo he’ll start looking to charge at Ace utilizing his Paint Rush. Ace will have a short opening to move out of the way before Axolangelo charges in a straight line, dealing damage and carrying Ace if caught in its path. The combination of these skills creates an exciting and challenging experience that will leave players experimenting with different builds before being able to efficiently and consistently take him on!

If you’d like to visit the Art Gallery to take on Axolangelo and his Art Apprentices you can do so today by downloading our Free Demo available on the Dandy Ace Steam Page! If you haven’t already done so, please consider helping us out by adding Dandy Ace to your Steam Wishlist. Tune into next week’s spotlight as we dive deeper into some of the Magic Cards you’ll come across in Dandy Ace.

Empire of Sin - missdeliana

Angelo Genna is a real gangster’s gangster. Sicilian born, he came to Chicago with all the darkness and superstition that comes with the reputation of the island. It’s not far-fetched to say he’s feared amongst some of Chicago’s most aggressive businessmen. Genna sees it as great leverage to capitalize on, furthering his own business prospects. Local tryhards could learn a few things from Angelo on how best to take advantage of a booming underworld enterprise.

A stone-cold professional, business is first for Angelo, though he’s not afraid to cut down competition when the need arises. He didn’t get the nickname “Bloody” Angelo for being forgiving in business. A bad meeting with Angelo and his brothers doesn’t just mean closing shop. It means a messy death, too.

Genna has been leading and delegating since he was born. A typical middle child, he’s the negotiator between his five brothers and knows how to get the best out of each of their special talents. Having spent most of his life perfecting that skill, running the family business comes as second nature to him, and he is adept at getting what is best for his family from any business deal.

For him, blood is thicker than water and liquor is thicker again. Angelo is extremely loyal to his family and to those he has a professional relationship with. It works both ways, though, and he expects fierce loyalty in return. Should anything turn sour, or if any associates adopt conflicting ideals, then the fallout is one of a scorched earth policy. Angelo’s five brothers are more than willing to back him up, eager to fulfill any messages that have to be sent.

Angelo just wants the best for him and his family first, and this gives him a hunger and ambition that’s hard to match. Now he’s got eyes on the wider Chicago area to claim his domain, and the whole family is behind him.

PHONE CONVERSATION BETWEEN ANGELO AND AL CAPONE
File: #01472
Chicago Police Dept.

Status: Open investigation
Date of exchange: 01/08/1920
Date of transcript: 01/09/1920
Stenographer: G. Avery

The following is a verbatim telephone conversation garnered by way of a wiretap between Angelo Genna and Alphonse Capone. The wire tap was planted on Genna’s private wire at his residence in Little Italy and the telephone call is inbound from Capone, from a location unknown to police.

[Recording begins]

Genna: Hello?

Operator: Good evening. A call from a Mr. Halsted in the South Side district, do you accept?

Genna: [Low voice, away from telephone receiver] Who the fuck?…[into receiver] Yeah. [Clears throat] Yeah, put him through.

Soft clicking on the line, breathing noise.

Genna: Hello?

Capone: [In a feigned accent] Mr. Genna? You made me very angry.

Genna: Two things Halsted: Who the fuck are ya? And why should I care?

Capone: Your liquor made me blind. I wanna be compensated.

Genna: It made ya dumb at least. Ya got any idea who you’re talkin’ to?

Capone: Pay me or I go to the feds.

Genna: [Laughs] Who gave ya this number?

Capone: I ain’t afraid to be a rat. Fifty thousand or I tell the whole of Chicago that the piss you call liquor is poison.

Genna: [Low voice away from receiver] I ain’t got time for this. [Sighs, then into the receiver] Alright here’s what’s gonna happen, Halsted. You’re gonna hang up. Then you got about thirty minutes to crawl back into whatever [raising voice] fucking sewer ya came out of, before me and my brothers find ya.

Laughing on the line.

Genna: [Shouting] Ya hear me? When we find ya, you’re gonna be thankful you’re blind so ya can’t see what we do to ya!

Capone: [Laughing] Relax Angelo! It’s me. [Laughing] It’s Al.

Genna: Al? [sighs] Oh for chrissakes. The fuck is the matter with you?

Capone: [Breathing heavily] Woo! I got ya blood pumpin’ huh? [laughs]

Genna: …This how ya spend your time, Al? I’m busy over here.

Capone: C’mon! Ya gotta learn to laugh, Genna.

Genna: You gotta be funny for that to happen.

Capone: [Laughs] How’s business?

Genna: Can’t complain. It’s good, could always be better.

Capone: So Gabriel wasn’t just talkin’ shit.

Genna: [Clears throat] You spoke to Gabriel?

Capone: He’s the reason I’m callin’. He’s been, uh… tourin’ some of South Side’s establishments.

Genna: Is that so?

Capone: Yeah…and he got to know some of the locals in my place earlier.

Genna: Shit. How many guys?

Capone: Too many to call it a fair fight.

Genna: Goddammit Gabriel. Is he hurt?

Capone: You kiddin’ me?

Genna: [Laughs] Yeah…stupid question.

Capone: Look, those guys probably had it comin’. But he had ’em uh…repainting the walls. Not to mention some collateral damage.

Genna: How much damage?

Capone: Nothin’ I can’t replace with a little loose change. But I’m tryin’ to run a classy joint here… Ya understand?

Genna: So what, you and I gonna have a problem now?

Capone: I ain’t sayin’ that… not this time at least-

Genna: What are ya sayin’?

Capone: [Coughs] C’mon Angelo, you’re a smart guy. Smart enough to know that if he keeps going like this, it’ll start to smell like trouble… for
everybody.

Genna: [Sighs] Uh-huh.

Capone: Maybe just put a leash on him, alright?

Genna: I’ll put a leash on him, when someone puts a muzzle on you, eh?

Capone: [Laughs] Alright, that’s my one warning. It’s more than everyone else gets, ’cause I respect you.

Genna: Alright…well ya made your little telephone call. I’ll take it from here.

Capone: I knew you’d understand.

Genna: Hey, where are you callin’ from?

Capone: Why’s that matter?

Genna: I can hear something…

Capone: Hear what?

Genna: I don’t know, like uh…a clicking or somethin’. Interference. You can’t hear that?

Soft static and breathing noise on the line.

Capone: Do y’self a favor Angelo, take some time off. You’re going nuts.

Genna: What and leave the whole city open for you? Get the fuck outta here.

Capone: [Laughs] Ya can’t trust nobody, huh?

Genna: G’night Al.

Transcript Ends.
