Crusader Kings 3 county control and development header

Counties are the smallest kind of domain you can hold in Crusader Kings 3, and as such you’ll need to manage them carefully. In particular, your county control and development are vital for the output of both gold and levies, so it’s well worth improving them where you can. Here’s how to increase county control and development in Crusader Kings 3.

Hades weapons guide

The six weapons of Hades are your primary means of battle through the ever-changing, ever-punishing halls of the Underworld. And there’s an awful lot to learn about each one, with different movesets, upgrades, and aspects to unlock for each Infernal Arm throughout your journeys.

Our Hades weapons guide looks to furnish you with all the knowledge you need to wield these titan-slaying weapons, with in-depth tips and details on every facet of each one – and my personal opinion on the very best weapons in Hades.

The gang back together in Left 4 Dead 2's Last Stand.

Eight years after its last major content update, Left 4 Dead 2 has mutated all sorts of newness with The Last Stand. Made by fans but released officially by Valve, the huge free update has added a new mini-campaign based on the first game’s lighthouse Survival mode map, dozens of new maps for Survival and Scavenge modes, new weapons, and loads of wee tweaks and touches. With Valve saying as recently as this year that they’re not making L4D3, The Last Stand may be the co-op shooter’s last stand for quite some time.

Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Ollie Toms)

“Just one more turn.” For all that the phrase is most commonly attributed to the Civilization franchise, I’ve never really experienced that feeling with the games. Whenever I’ve wanted to pack the game in and continue another day, I’m able to do so. If the phrase were instead “Just one more game,” then that would much more accurately capture the influence Civilization VI in particular exerts over me. I’ve probably played through as many early-games in Civ VI as I’ve played turns in any single game of Civ. I’m utterly and eternally in love with those first few dozen turns.

Sneaky action in a Squad screenshot.

After five years in early access, multiplayer tactical shooter Squad finally launched this week. Up to 100 players can romp around big levels on foot and in vehicles, in action which sits somewhere between Battlefield and Arma on the simulated soldier seriousness scale. It was started by some of the folks behind Battlefield 2 mod Project Reality, y’see. Though just because the game’s now out of early access, doesn’t mean the devs are done with it. They’ve laid out plans for new modes, maps, and more that stretch into at least next year.

The Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139... gang hanging out in some art.

Square Enix today announced an April 23rd release date for Nier Replicant Ver.1.22474487139…, the confusingly-named new edition of the 2010 action-RPG. This game is set millennia before Nier: Automata, the first game in the series that came to PC, though it does have a few familiar faces. The new version is tweaked, expanded, and prettied-up a bit, supposedly enough that Squeenix call it an “update” or “modern re-telling” rather than use simple and helpful terms like ‘remaster’ or ‘remake’. Come enjoy some nice landscapes and sad music in the new trailer below.

A screenshot of Hades, the god, in Hades the game, sitting on his throne and looking all brooding and angry

Extremely good game Hades got its full release recently. Allegedly a roguelike (but it cannot be, because I do not like roguelikes), in Hades the game you play as Hades the god’s swaggering poshboy son Zagreus, who is trying to literally and figuratively escape his father’s home. Hades the game makes full use of its setting and is stuffed full of great renditions of Ancient Greek gods and monsters.

I’ve been getting up an hour early to play Hades before work, so I have spent a lot of time thinking about the characters you run into on your multiple attempts to get out of hell. I was going to do a list of them in order of how hot I think they are, but I think you know me well enough by now to know the list would be a bit of paper with “idk they’re all pretty hot” scrawled on it in biro. So instead, as is applicable in many situations, we turn to John Mulaney.

Rocket League

went free-to-play yesterday, which, naturally, caused loads of new players to hop into those funky little football cars for a few matches. The game’s new competitive season began, too, bringing in a load of returning players as well. Unfortunately, Rocket League’s servers did not like this. Not long after the game updated, the servers went down and players struggled to connect to its online features.

A screenshot of Max from Life Is Strange, back to camera, standing in front of her wall of polaroid photos.

In a change of pace for the Electronic Wireless Show this week, Nate is on holiday and we’re joined by special guest VidBud Colm Ahern to discuss our favourite special powers from video games. The title is actually a misnomer, because I immediately go on to say that really we’re talking about weird or supernatural special powers, not super powers like wot The Avengers have. An example, that we talk about at in fact, is Max’s power to rewind time in Life Is Strange.

Our diversions this week are less likely to involve the term “bumeggs”, but we do spend ages talking about whether or not a character in Resident Evil 7 has a beehive for a bum or not. Also, it turns out that we mostly want special abilities that facilitate the acquisition and consumption of food. We did record this around lunchtime, in fairness.

To make things more confusing, the Cavern Of Lies this week is> superhero themed, specifically around 2002 strategy game Freedom Force.

Total War Saga: Troy

launched its first DLC today, Amazons. It introduces badass warrior queens Penthesilea and her sister Hippolyta to the Trojan War, along with their all-female armies, new focuses, faction mechanics and more. Better yet, you can nab it for free for the next two weeks.

Now, each of these Amazon leaders have slightly different goals – Hippolyta is out to take back sacred regions and gather Amazonian treasure, while Penthesilea will be exploring the world with a Horde army to capture new settlements.
