Pineleaf Studio today announced an early access launch date of October 22nd for DwarfHeim, the intriguing cooperative RTS where players take on different roles. You’ll need someone in charge of your army, naturally, though you’ll need a town to support that army, but how will you build a town without miners? Division of labour is the answer, splitting tasks across players who’ll need to work together if any of this plan is to work. You’ll be able to try this for yourself in a new multiplayer demo as part of PAX X EGX, the giant virtual games event starting today.

It is no secret that I both really love early-access medieval city-builder Foundation, and am also not very good at it. Luckily, I was able to wrangle Polymorph Games’ creative director Philippe Dion and community manager Andy Ashton to show me how it’s done, in a combined interview and let’s play for EGX Online.

Fellow nerds, rejoice! Since EGX and PAX weren’t able to put on physical events this year, PAX Online and EGX Digital have joined forces for PAX X EGX (sadly not, as I have been told I should not call it, PACKSEGGS). Starting right now today, Saturday the 12th you’ll have nine full days of your favourite gaming shows, but from the comfort of your home!

Atomicrops review header image

It’s tough work, farming through a nuclear winter. Tough enough that Atomicrops is now recruiting farmhands from beyond the confines of the Epic Games Store. Only a few months after release, publishers Raw Fury this week announced that their carrot-plucking twin-stick shooter is heading to Steam and GOG later this month – bringing a bounty of irradiated new content with it.

PAX X EGX kicks off today, nine days of demos and streamed sessions and things to replace big games events that, y’know, didn’t happen. Should be lots going on, so see its website. Myself, my weekend is dominated by reckoning with the concept that we’re less than two weeks from the start of autumn. It doesn’t seem right – factually or morally.

What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!

Panzer Dragoon: Remake - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

The dragon combat game of 90s fame is spreading its wings for a PC release soon, the developers say. The Panzer Dragoon: Remake was originally expected last winter and was later released on the Nintendo Switch in March this year, so it’s good to hear that PC date may finally be landing. They’ve not given a date, so we’ll just have to see what flavor of “soon” they mean.

Alt-history mech romp Iron Harvest launched on September 1st and is already shoveling its first update out. You can now stomp through the campaign in co-op with a friend or go head-to-head in a new multiplayer map. The developers are planning further updates throughout September with more maps, a ranked mode, and other additions. Oh, an there’s a nifty new trailer where all the characters speak their own languages.

Look, I don’t like spiders any more than the next bear but even I’ll admit this one is cute. This intrepid lady is on her way through the forest to save her boyfriend (also a spider?) from a very large bird. In Webbed, she can swing and weave her way through the forest’s many dangers with the incredible tensile strength of spider webs. It’s horrifyingly adorable.

Baldur's Gate 3 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

I’m fully spoiled for RPGs at the moment, but that sure won’t stop me greedily gobbling up details about Baldur’s Gate 3 whenever Larian is ready to sprinkle them out. The more I see, the more I hope it will have the intimate, party-focused storytelling that made one of my best pals fall in love with the Dragon Age series. Which is why I’m oh so thrilled to hear a bit more about multiplayer this week. Please oh please, Larian, help me convince her to co-op Baldur’s Gate 3 with me so I can be an absolute thorn in her side the way childhood friends are meant to be.
