Return of the Obra Dinn - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (James Law)

Header image for obra dinnReturn Of The Obra Dinn is something truly special. I haven’t played a game before or since that forces such high levels of engagement and thought, whilst somehow not feeling like a chore or a hassle.Dropped off off the coast of Falmouth, you’re tasked with learning what happened to the entire crew of the ill-fated Obra Dinn merchant ship, which mysteriously drifted ashore with heavy damage and no crew. Playing as an insurance investigator for the East India Company isn’t exactly the most delicious or exciting prospect, but your magic pocket watch brings things into sharper focus. (more…)

Madden NFL 21 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

Listen. I might now absolutely jack about US-style football, but even I’ve heard of Colin Kaepernick. Unfortunately (if unsurprisingly), he’s been absent from EA’s hand-egg franchise for years – but today, EA finally changed that by adding the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback to Madden 21 as a free agent in a free update. As an extra wee bonus, they’re making this year’s sports ’em up free to try this weekend.

Well, that didn’t take long. Trucks, quads, helicopters and the lot have made their way back onto Call Of Duty: Warzone‘s battlefield, after some crafty map-breaking exploits led to their sudden removal this weekend. The devs have given the all-clear to getting back behind the steering wheel, safe in the knowledge that you won’t accidentally end the game by driving out of bounds.

Adios - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

This little piggy went to market. This little piggy went home. And this little piggy ate up poor sods who’d upset the mob bosses in the big city. In Mischief’s upcoming thriller Adios, these are your pigs and this is your job – until one day, you decide you’ve had enough. A new trailer for the small-town story spends a day with the farmer and his mafioso friend, as they work out whether they’ll both be alive by the end of the day.

If you’re in the market for a new hack and slash RPG adventure, you’re in the wrong place, because Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-reckoning is technically an old hack and slash RPG adventure. The remaster of the 2012 game came out today, bringing slightly nicer graphics and gameplay to an old fan favourite. There’s a cheeky 50% discount on Steam right now too, if you already own the original game. If only THQ Nordic had given it a slightly nicer name. I’ve already triple-checked that I haven’t written “re” too many times.

Unpacking - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

Moving house is a nightmare. From dealing with landlords to hauling your junk halfway across the country, it’s more stressful than anything the world of videogames could throw at you. Fortunately, upcoming chill puzzler Unpacking skips all that for the good part of settling into new digs – the moment where you finally get to spill boxes all over the floor and start turning a sterile showroom into a messy, intimate home.

Listen. Just because we’ve got a multiversal authoritarian state to demolish doesn’t mean we can’t take a few moments to enjoy the scenery. Released today, Star Renegades is a bloody stunning tactical roguelite RPG about smashing robots, dodging rivals, and catching some sweet sunsets at the end of the universe again, and again, and again.

Among Us - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Uncovering spacetraitors in Among Us has become surprisingly popular, a success which is not unexpected because the game’s bad (it’s good!) but because it had been out for a year-and-a-half before really being noticed. The developers, Innersloth announced over the weekend that the sneaky party game hit 1.5 million concurrent online players, which is, well, damn. Servers have started to buckle from all the players, but the devs have a plan.

After two long years with chains on the gates, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is preparing a grand re-opening.
