Realm of the Mad God Exalt - Deca_Dytto
Hello Realmers,

After PT

Many thanks for participating in the public testing session this weekend! Trying out the new features and balance changes and communicating your feedback to us is very valuable to the team. We have been reading the ongoing discussions (yes, all of them) on different platforms. In addition to that, in order to give the PT feedback some organization, we ask you to fill this form and provide us with a summary of your PT experience. Your voice is being heard, so please be civil and try to give us your objective and unbiased opinion in the best structure possible!

Ban Wave

As we mentioned in the last Discord Q&A session, we never have and never will tolerate cheating. With the upgrade of Realm of the Mad God to Realm Exalt, our ways of tracking cheaters also advanced.

That being said, we want to give you a little more detail on what’s happened in the past few weeks. We now have ways to track which accounts have been using a hacked client to play the newly released Oryx 3 on Flash instead of on Realm Exalt. After an in-depth investigation, we found more than 2000 who took advantage of an external party/hacked client to get access to the Mad God 3.

Each of those accounts was banned, and approximately 150 of those bans were permanent. The difference in our actions depends on a thorough investigation for each of the accounts individually! The results were based, as they have always been, on an account’s history (if you have been banned and for what in the past). That also determines the duration of the ban. Since the amount of accounts is pretty big, it took some time to review each of the said accounts and take the appropriate action.

On the subject of permanent bans, we want to again emphasize that our tracking for cheat detection on Exalt is superior to that of Flash. While we want to continue taking a very firm stance on cheating, we would also like to stress that non-permanent bans do not mean the cheaters are essentially scott-free. Should these accounts have a second violation (which will be noticed very quickly now), more extreme action will be taken since they have already received their warning.

Cheating is a violation of our ToS and we won’t tolerate it. Breaking those terms will get you banned!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Crowbar Collective.
I’ve been a level designer at Crowbar Collective since around 2007. My first task after joining was to rework Undertow and bring it up to the standards of other multiplayer maps we had at the time, although that version was never released and was subsequently redone again; it was still a great learning experience. Following after Undertow I started work on the later parts of Unforeseen Consequences (the coolant labs & lower canals sections) & then onto assisting with detailing and level design work on a few parts of Questionable Ethics.

Following the mod release in 2012 I & others set about working through the large number of bug reports we had received and endeavored to resolve all possible combined with making level design & visual improvements where possible. A few old blog posts I wrote regarding the fixing endeavors can be found here & here if you are interested in reading more. I also assisted in detailing & optimization work on the multiplayer map Crossfire.

My primary focus for Xen development was assisting in extra detail work that was needed on the Xen chapter followed by early blockout work and assisting in arting sections of the Gonarch chapter; in particular the headcrab canyon and water cave & assisting in detailing sections of Interloper chapter both interior and exterior.

When did your interest in game development begin?
I’d always enjoyed tinkering with map editors that came with games I played like the Age of Empire series & Red Faction, but I think my interest in modding and then subsequently game development stems from being introduced to Half-Life modding by an old secondary school friend of mine. He was part of a modding community called TWHL (The Whole Half-Life) from there I started to experiment & make levels for various competitions they ran and then onto joining various Half-Life and Half-Life 2 mods before joining Black Mesa.

What was the most challenging hurdle that was overcome during development in your role?
I don’t think I could point to one specific thing but trying to figure out creative ways to overcome hurdles that are thrown your way due to engine limitations and such has been the general gist of working as a level designer while on Black Mesa.

What was the worst part of developing Black Mesa in your role?
When the Hammer model viewer would break constantly requiring it to be restarted. But then realizing that I could fix it by simply closing the browser and moving the mouse cursor between the 3D & 2D views to resolve the issue instead of restarting the entire program: that was definitely a boost to my productivity when it came to arting levels and in particular the various parts of Xen.

Did you go to school for your respective parts of the project?
While I didn’t directly study game design, I did however for Graphic Design & Communication which indirectly helped in regards to composition, lighting & detailing among others for my role as a level designer & environmental arting.

How often do you watch youtube videos/Twitch streams of Black Mesa?
I try to watch streams of Black Mesa when I have the chance, usually lurking, however. They’re a great source of seeing a wide spectrum of people playing your game and seeing if something does or doesn't work to perhaps try and improve it. My particular favorite thing to do is watch people's reactions to seeing parts of Black Mesa for the first time, the reveals of Xen & Gonarch and its subsequent chapter-long battle never get old to see.

Any favorite mods for Half-Life games?
Poke 646 is usually one that springs to mind whenever I think of old Half-Life mods that I had a lot of fun playing, But I think special mention should be given to the many multiplayer based mods that I have sunk many hours in to like Day of Defeat, The specialists and in particular Natural Selection which was a personal favorite with its interesting gameplay & setting. In recent years Half-life: Echoes has been a standout, along with Caged, Year Long Alarm & Azure sheep among others.

Do you accept pineapple on pizza or are you against it?
I will always accept pineapple placed atop a delicious pizza, especially on a sourdough base.

Scribble It! - soeanski
Hello guys,

more than one year has gone by since we published Scribble It! via the Steam Early Access program on the 26th of july 2019.

It sure has been a wonderful journey with ups, downs and everything in between. We are thankful for all the support we had and continue to have from you guys so thanks a lot! With the upcoming patch 1.0 we are officially leaving Early Access. Looking back at the first playable versions of this game and all the things that have happened since last year sometimes feels a little unreal.

A whole lot of updates, some smaller some bigger, transformed the original ingame UI into what it is today. There is always room for improvement but we sure came a long way.

But not only the way the game looks while playing it changed. Learning how to design accessible and intuitive UI elements is sometimes harder than it might seem and presented a major challenge for us. In July we completely overhauled the way of creating and updating a lobby and that was almost certainly not the last time we changed big UI elements :-P.

Now here comes the big news: Not only will we leave Early Access when releasing the next patch but we will also make a part of the game free-to-play. There will be a free and a full version of Scribble It! in the Steam store, everyone that already owns the game right now automatically owns the full version.

We thought a lot about going this route and while this is a big change we are convinced it will have a positive impact on the game. By taking this step we hope to acquire new players and create a better multiplayer experience for everyone.

Please note that we are very grateful for every single one of you that supported us during the last year and that we will continue to listen to you like we always have!
Detailled information on the free version and when 1.0 is going to be shipped will be released soon.

Cheers,
the devs

Adventure Land - The Code MMORPG - Wizard

Biggest update this week is the improvements to the messaging system, now all messages are retained, regular chat is server-wide - and pm's work both offline and within servers! The next step will be to update the https://adventure.land/comm/ so it will become more practical and also be a messaging hub (The typing bubble animation is also live now)

Worked on Steam payment integration, it's theoretically ready now, but practically need to do some more work

Observers now automatically update position, both when you are just observing a server, or when you are observing someone

There's a new experimental escapist monster: Tiny Fairy

After the next update, only merchants will be able to join giveaways, but at the same time, I'll probably make Cyberland hostile for merchants, as more and more things are added, don't want to move merchants dominantly to Cyberland - Also congrats to Kolo on Discord for figuring out what "give" does :)

Oneons v1.4.0 is Now Available to All Players

I am extremely excited to announce that you can buy and play Oneons right now. After five months of development (three of which were implementing player-requested changes), the game is now released. (Prior releases were only available to Steam Curators.)

This public release also coincides with our v1.4.0 release. As far as 1-3 week releases go, it's a smaller one. The game is polished, complete, (hopefully) bug free, and hopefully many of you will play it and give us your feedback so we can improve it.

What's new in v1.4.0

This release primarily includes more polish (quality-of-life changes) and bug-fixes. The list includes:

  • You can now toggle jumbo images, which is an accessibility feature we restored for low-vision players.
  • The sidebar now presents your stats (including poison) separate from monster stats and recent events.
  • Critical warnings are now centered and outlined in black so they're a bit easier to read.
  • Added a button on the title screen to exit the game
  • Hitting any key on the title screen no longer launches the game (easy to do by mistake)
  • Added outlines to the Blastinel sprite so you can see it on dark backgrounds
  • Fixed a bug where the UI didn't tell you about Cactobite damage when you move
  • Fixed a bug where Cactobites deal double damage when you attack them
  • Fixed a bug where the tutorial arrow on the first dungeon didn't appear properly

This wraps up changes based on feedback we've received so far. We're hoping to receive more, so don't be shy with your comments!

I am especially looking forward to hearing your feedback: thoughts, concerns, ideas, etc. We read and process all the information you send us, and a lot of that makes it into future releases. You can find me on Discord or Twitter (@nightblade99).
