Monster Harvest - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

Ever wondered what it’d be like if Pokemon’s perpetually-childish heroes settled down to start a farm? Lucky for you, that’s exactly the premise of Monster Harvest. Sowing its first seeds this week, Maple Powered Games’ upcoming crop punctuates Stardew Valley‘s pastoral life sim with brutal fights between half-plant, half-animal hybrids called Planimals. Geddit?

This is both a busy weekend and a lazy one. While the big announcements of Gamescom 2020 came during Gamescom Opening Night Live on Thursday, the German games show is still rolling online this weekend. And for us here in the RPS treehouse, it’s a long bank holiday weekend. We’ll have a few posts coming, but return in full force on Tuesday. See you then!

What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!

It seems like one of the best parts of Watch Dogs Legion‘s whole “play as anyone” thing will be all the wacky different kinds of NPCs you’re able to sign on. In a new video, Ubisoft show off a recruitment mission in which DedSec agents help out a beekeeper. Why the heck would you want a beekeeper on your squad? They can shoot out a swarm of nanobees that blast enemies with an electrical discharge, obviously.

Serious Sam 4 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

I had heard that Serious Sam 4 would let us drive a Popemobile. I had not heard that the Popemobile in question is a giant heavily-armed mech whose boot-up sequence dialogue concludes, “All systems ready. Let God sort them out.” A new trailer hot out of Gamescom today shows the Popemobile in action, smashing a tentacle monster in the middle Vatican City and alright, yup, this is some big brash stupid spectacle I can get behind. See the Pope’s private Evangelion in action in the trailer below.

Every time an Assassin’s Creed setting is revealed, it feels like there’s a flurry of speculation on which historical and legendary folks will show up for a cameo. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place at just about the right time to cross paths with legendary viking Ragnar Lothbrok so it seemed like perhaps we might arrange a meeting.

Apparently not, according to Ubisoft’s new gameplay video. You just> missed him actually. He went and got thrown in a snake pit just a couple years back. They did show off some mythical monsters you’ll go up against instead.

Sea of Thieves: 2025 Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Lo and behold, just a few weeks after I finally broke down and got myself a ship cat, Sea Of Thieves have released a new developer update confirming that they’ll be adding dogs to the high seas as well. Rare say that other updates are coming in September as well, and that monthly updates with bug fixes and new features will continue.

Struggling - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

This one looks like a possible friendship-ender. Co-op physics are tough enough, as are platforming games. Struggling is both of those things and—as the cherry on top of your character’s horrifying head—you and your partner are each controlling one of two horrifying, connected appendages. This physics disaster is out now if you’re really ready to test your co-op communication.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise Of New Champions

is an arcade football meets sports anime with all the wild special shots you’d expect from that intersection. Super-powerful special moves and summoned animals and other extremely anime bits accompany the usual dribbling and scoring of proper football. Kickoff is coming because Captain Tsubasa it out now alongside a new ridiculous trailer.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Seeing as not many people played Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning in the first place, let’s just pretend that the impending remaster is a brand new game. Forget that it came out in 2012. Forget that it flopped. Forget that it took its creators down with it. Forget that this all made a disappointed John Walker shout “Why didn’t everyone play Kingdoms Of Amalur?!” Breathe in, breathe out, and… we’re a clean slate.

Oh hey look, here comes the first so-called “gameplay trailer” for Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, which might look a fair bit like another World Of Warcraft-esque MMORPG but is actually a singleplayer game. That could be neat!

Lemnis Gate - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

Time loop games seem to be all the rage right now don’t they? You’ve got stuff like Arkane’s Deathloop and Luis Antonio’s 12 Minutes, and now the upcoming FPS Lemnis Gate, which we saw a shiny new trailer for during Gamescom Opening Night Live. It’s a strategic first-person shooter in which players duke it out across five turns which each take place in a 25-second time loop. It sounds… different, and it looks kinda cool. Check out the new trailer for yourself below.
