Like generations of dwarves and weird west prospectors before it, Phoenix Point has dug too deep. Arriving tomorrow, the second DLC for Snapshot Games’ bug-shooting strategy delves into the Legacy Of The Ancients – unearthing a trove of new story missions, environments, and enemies wrapped around a long-forgotten faction of bronze robots at the center of the Earth.
Digital Extremes’ MMO shoot-em-up Warframe gets a meaty and, well, pretty gross-looking expansion today. It’s called The Heart Of Deimos, and it plops you Tennos onto the titular Martian moon to kill some Infested aliens and figure out what they’re up to (you know, aside from making everything look plague-ridden).
This expansion is introducing a big new open world area, as well as Warframe power customisation, new K-Drives (which you’ll be able to shoot from!), new story missions, and loads more good stuff.
Several people have publicly resigned from Lab Zero Games, the studio behind Skullgirls and Indivisible, saying they could no longer tolerate the the behaviour of its owner. Three posted public statements explaining their departures, accusing Mike Zaimont of inappropriate sexual and hostile behaviour in the workplace. They claim the team had tried to get Zaimont to leave but he wouldn’t, so they decided to leave instead.
What’s on your mind, Borderlands 3? Perhaps I should be asking what’s in> your mind, actually, because the fourth (and presumably final) DLC for Gearbox’s trigger-happy loot romp is delving into the imagination of screaming masked goon Krieg. Arriving next month, Psycho Krieg And The Fantastic Fustercluck presents an unusually introspective turn for Borderlands, one where we explore the innermost feelings of a deeply troubled man trying to find his place in a chaotic future.
Nah, I’m kidding. We’re gonna blow the crap outta this guy’s mind.
What’s your favourite Fall Guys minigame? See Saw? Door Dash? That weird thing with the eggs? I, for one, prefer the one where your merry band of tic-tacs slay the elder dragon Alduin. Now I understand that’s not a very “official” route to claiming a crown or two – but thanks to modder m150, you can now traipse around The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition with a rabble of ravenous Fall Guys at your side.
Over the last few months, The Sinking City has been disappearing from digital storefronts. In an open letter published today, the game’s developers, Frogwares say they’ve been going through legal disputes with publishing company, Nacon (formerly Bigben Interactive), over funding and copyright issues with their Lovecraftian RPG.
Frogwares allege that Nacon missed payments to the devs during the game’s production, and wrongly tried to claim copyright of it after its release. On top of that, the developers claim Nacon owes them “roughly 1 million euros” (around £900,000) in unpaid royalties, after collecting revenue from the game’s sales on Frogwares’ behalf.
Epic Games have successfully scored a temporary restraining order to stop Apple’s plan to terminate their developer accounts on Friday, a move that would’ve stopped them from continuing to support Unreal Engine on Mac and iOS. Apple threatened this after Epic bypassed the App Store’s payment systems in Fortnite, and Apple also ejected the battle royale shooter from their walled garden. Epic told the courts that this would harm the many developers who rely on Unreal Engine, and the judge agreed. But Epic didn’t get all their wishes, so Apple don’t have to let Fortnite back on iOS.
Phwoar, Black Myth: Wukong looks a bit good eh? If you’ve not seen the gameplay trailer yet, definitely give it a watch. From the looks of things it’s an action-adventure game based on one of the great classical novels of Chinese literature, Journey to the West. You take control of Sun Wukong, a godly monkey king, and start fights with big groups of foxes with swords, and huge scary wolves, and many other folks who aren’t best pleased to see you.
You bet I’m into the combo-laden combat and the punishing Soulslike boss fights (which’ll no doubt leave me staring at the ceiling while Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” echoes into the night). But it’s really the world and its mythology which leave me salivating. I want to know how Wukong can turn into a golden cicada. How he plucks his staff out of his ear at one point. And what beef these livid animals, or demons, or both, actually have against him. I am hungry to learn more. Starving, even. So, I had a rummage around the art director’s Artstation profile, “yang qi917”, to better immerse myself in the game’s universe. (more…)
The first fully digital Summer Games Done Quick is over, and they’ve managed to raise $2.3 million (about £1.7 million) for Doctors Without Borders. This is one of the highest amounts raised at a GDQ event, which is pretty respectable considering it had to move online this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But despite not being able to attend the event in person, the speedruns were still excellent, and we saw the event’s very first VR run in Half-Life: Alyx.
