Hello stalkers!

Another week, another sneak peeks behind the scenes of production! This time we would like to show you how we work on the prison and also on the optimization.

You may know the mentioned location, as there are multiple situations already in the game that can lead to your imprisonment. If you do and you didn’t like it, don’t worry, that was only a work-in-progress place. As for the optimization, we’re doing lots of that, but we thought you might remember our previous reports so we will show you today an already familiar character.



You’re going to prison, buddy!


Were you there already? It did look unfinished, right? No wonder. For now, it’s mostly a placeholder place.

“Placeholder” means that it’s working enough for us to check the most important parts, but it is still under construction. We use assets (like models, walls, etc.) that we already have to check if that’s working correctly. Think of it as a prototype, which single purpose is to show us crucial elements that we have to further improve, change or discard.

So, here’s how the prison is changing:



Do you like it? You’ll soon be able to visit it, as it should be in the game with the next big update.

Optimization!

If you have read the recent reports, you may remember the fellow shown below. Optimization is a tough process, that mostly focuses on keeping the high quality (or even making it better) and lowering the “power cost”. In other words: for the game to run faster without expanding the PC requirements.

Operation: New Earth - Laura


Attention, Commanders! Our scouts have reported a network of Covert Testing Stations have been discovered across all regions. These stations, guarded by deadly elite Black Ops Troops, contain blueprints which will be needed to construct and upgrade your Hero Armory!

We've also observed that ALL 9 Nuclear Silos have become active this weekend. NUCLEAR WINTER returns to New Earth.

Both events will be active until Monday 10th August at 7AM (UTC)! Have a good weekend and stay safe, Commanders.

Necesse - Fair
To get this update, you have to opt in inside your library:
Necesse -> Properties -> Betas -> Select 0.20.x in dropdown.
It's recommended to back up your saves when playing on the experimental version. Especially when loading a save using a newer version. You can do so in-game on the load menu.

Even though performance isn't the biggest issue in Necesse, I spent some time this week working on it. It resulted in some major improvements to some specific areas of the rendering engine, which is used throughout the entire game. The improvements will mostly be noticed on mid and high-end computers, where I saw an increase of 50% to 200% in FPS (or even higher) on the systems I tested.

This update also includes another big quality of life feature: auto open/close doors. It works by simply trying to walk through a door, and if you have it enabled you will open and close it automatically when you're through. This new system also replaces existing door openers, like settlers and pirates.

Lastly, there are a bunch of balance changes and polish as usual.

Fixes:
Fixed issue with FPS counter when running above 1000 FPS.
Fixed backed up worlds not changing their identifier, which is used in client caches and a few other places.
Fixed smart mining setting sometimes not saving properly.

And a bunch of other smaller changes and fixes.
You might have to restart Steam to get the update.

Hello everyone,

We’re back at it again with another Developer Blog! This time we’re going to feature the policies of our selected country, a little info about projects, and something exciting with what the Mod Tool is going to offer! Let’s dive in:

Internal Policy

Following the example of the first Realpolitiks we decided to leave the game's three basic political systems: democracy, authoritarianism, and totalitarianism. Each system allows you to take different actions, which is why playing with democracy is very different from playing with a totalitarian state. Political systems affect available actions in provinces, actions in the region, buildings, projects, diplomatic and espionage actions, and negotiations. That sounds like a lot, but there’s more! Political systems depend on the level of Interventionism, Militarism and Personal Control. These, in turn, are determined by the buildings operating in your country, active actions in the respective regions and provinces, projects introduced and decisions made during events. Tons of decisions have to be made for you to be successful on your journey to dominance.



Political parties

Political parties are new to Realpolitiks II. After each election, i.e. with the change of the system, the power distribution in the parliament changes. The parties play a very important role in the game - everything depends on their decisions whether you can perform specific actions, place buildings, introduce decrees, or develop new and existing technology. Political parties will be able to block the possibility of declaring a war or sending a specific proposal during peace negotiations. Also, if the majority in the parliament will be held by democratic parties, you will not get permission to build collective farms for example. Totalitarian parties will gladly support such actions, but they prevent you from relinquishing a province to another country, even if you lose the war. Of course, it wouldn’t have been politics without party bribing - some views become more flexible if the parliamentarians have their pockets full. By lobbying, you can persuade the party to change their mind, although in some cases even this may not be enough and your hands will be tied until the next election.
The more democratic your country is, the greater the strength of the democratic parties will be. If you remain a democracy, but you are on the threshold of authoritarianism, it is possible that more totalitarian parties will win the elections, which will open up a number of opportunities for countries with a different system.
The number of parties entering the parliament also depends on the political system - in a democracy the number of seats is diversified, while in totalitarianism you will meet only one.



Political projects

As part of the project trees, we have prepared numerous solutions that will allow you to give your country an individual character, using various political and economic doctrines, and social projects. Do you want to remain a democracy focused on the cult of the leader and full capitalism that exploits the citizens? Nothing stands in the way. Are you going to create a communist utopia? Or maybe you want to play as a totalitarian state that does not maintain an army and allocates all resources to social and economic activities? Will you choose a geopolitical player who will become a world sheriff integrating in every war, or will you create an isolated enclave without any diplomatic relations? You are only limited by your fantasy and your country's budget. And maybe some political parties would be a little problem, but an experienced leader like you can handle them, right?



Mod tool

As part of the modding tool you can determine the influence of Interventionism, Militarism and Personal Control on political systems in your own scenarios. If you want, nothing prevents you from creating a game in which there are only totalitarian states.
You will be given full freedom to create political parties and their programs. It will be up to you how many political parties enter parliament during elections - do you want 50 parties to operate in the country, and 20 in the parliament? No problem, although such governments can be quite troublesome for you.

Nothing prevents you from using the mod tool to define which actions are available to specific systems. You will also have full freedom in shaping project trees as you see fit, so if you decide that you want to extend the personalization of political systems, e.g. introducing the institution of a vice king to the country, seizing power as dictator in times of danger, creating a purely religious state that believes in aliens - you will be able to introduce these types of projects and actions into the game.
