The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Best RPGs

Here’s a nice one for The Witcher fans on this lovely summer afternoon – Netflix have announced they’re making a prequel series to teach us all about the beginnings of those mysterious, white-haired monster hunters. Named The Witcher: Blood Origins, it’ll be set 1200 years prior to dear old Geralt Of Rivia’s story, and will tell us the tale of how “the very first Witcher came to be”.

An enemy hitting a player's Temtem with a move type that's super effective.

Temtem has a similar approach to a lot of JRPGs. It uses types to determine how effective attacks are against a specific ally or enemy. As a Temtem tamer, it’s your job to ensure that you keep your squad safe and exploit enemy weaknesses.

But given that we haven’t had over 20 years to learn which types are effective against which type, it can be handy to have a chart to remind you.

“The factory must grow.” It’s a mantra that all Factorio players know – or at least they should. But it’s one thing knowing it, and quite another to put it into action. A screenshot of Bridget from Death Stranding

I’m not afraid to say that I have absolutely no idea about what’s going on in Death Stranding after a couple of hours with it. Something about a big apocalypse, some strands, a man who has the face of Guillermo Del Toro but not his voice keeps trying to me to kill a baby in a jar, and apparently my mum is the president of the United States? It’s a lot, even by Kojima’s standards, but hot damn if I’m not 100% engrossed despite all its exposition gubbins, because I just can’t stop gawping at everyone’s beautiful faces.

Facing off against a wild Rhoulder in Temtem

Some Temtem introduced in the latest expansion are quite rare, but the rarest available one is Rhoulder. It’s an earth/neutral type rhino that is an absolute beast.

Fighting the elsuve Temtem - Hocus

Most of the new Temtem introduced in the latest expansion were exclusive to the Kisiwa region, but with the climbing gloves now available there is one of the older Temtem that is now reachable. Hocus is a powerful mental type Temtem and well worth looking for if you didn’t choose the mental type starter.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

My journey playing through Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for guides on RPS was a very strange one. I played for ten hours on the first day, and came away exhausted and with only negative things to say about it. The combat was like Sekiro but worse, the cutscenes were lengthy and unskippable, the frame rate was inconsistent, and the puzzle sections were just about the last thing I wanted to encounter in a Star Wars game.

I found myself longing to get to the end of the game so I could finish writing my guides and stop playing. But instead, the moment I finished the campaign I started again on the highest difficulty. And then again. And again. Over the course of its campaign, the game had taken a janky, unstable lightsaber to my heart and carved a Fallen Order-shaped hole in me with neither my knowledge nor my consent. Now, I have to concentrate to notice all those negative points that previously I was unable to look beyond.

It’s time to say goodbye to the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive maps Chlorine and Jungle, as they’ve been swapped out to make room for two new community ones. Say hello, then, to Swamp and Mutiny. The first one is pretty self-explanatory, it’s a big green swamp complete with a boat repair shop and some murky water. The second, Mutiny, is pirate-themed – as you might expect – and features a harbour-looking area with some big ol’ docked ships as delightful scenery to your tactical shooting.

It’s a strange new world where this morning’s video game news was discovered through TikTok. Respawn dev, Jake Smullin, took to the video sharing platform, as he so often does, to assure players that Apex Legends‘ upcoming crossplay feature will only put console players in PC lobbies if there’s a PC player in their squad.

“Have been seeing lots of console players worrying about this but don’t,” he says. “Everyone should be excited.”
