Forget your Gundams or your Battletechs – I like my mechs rusted, broken and held together by bolts and prayer. Fantastic news, then, that we’re about to get our hands on Iron Harvest‘s dieselpunk war machines. The alt-history RTS enters open beta next week, giving us free rein of its turn-of-the-century mechs ahead of its launch proper on September 1st.

There are few games I’m excited for more than Shedwork’s gorgeous sand-speeder Sable, which is why it stings to report that it’s once again been pushed back a year. First due in 2019, then 2020, the lonely Mobius-inspired desert romp will now (hopefully) release in 2021. As consolation, here are 30 more seconds of the upcoming comic-book adventure to gawk at longingly, courtesy of a stylish new trailer.

The great EA exodus is upon us. With Titanfall 2 landing on Steam earlier this year, it’s only a matter of time before Apex Legends makes the jump. Respawn’s battle royale is dropping on Valve’s house later this Autumn – and to commemorate the occasion, the devs are adding three delightful Half-Life and Portal-themed charms to their far-future deathmatch.

When Sega announced Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis at Thursday’s NotE3 Xbox show, there was a bit of a kerfuffle over what it was. An update? An expansion? A brand new game? To help clear up any misconceptions, the publishers have put together a new “follow-up” trailer explaining exactly what New Genesis actually is – a new, spruced-up standalone release that will let you jump in with an existing PSO2 character.

Don’t pet the animals in Paper Beasts. Oh, they don’t bite (hell, I don’t even know if they have mouths) but I wouldn’t want you getting a papercut. After a brief stint on Playstation VR, Pixel Reef’s gorgeous papercraft sandbox has finally found its way to PC – a wonderfully bizarre menagerie of folded beasties to poke at, puzzle with, or simply observe with idle curiosity from behind the comfort of your expensive plastic headset.

And that’s it, notE3 is over. Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase on Thursday wrapped up the seven-odd weeks of disparate marketing events, and I have to say: I miss E3. Should this be the end of E3, let’s just spread stuff across the whole year, not half-arse it with events spread across the best part of two months. See our E3 tag for eeeverythiiing we posted. I am tired. Which is why I’m taking the next fortnight off work. I’ll see you again in August, which I believe is now called ‘pre-Gamescom.’

What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!

A quite busy fight between robots/mechs and futuristic soldiers on a dark beach. A metallic dragon flies in from the left, breathing fire.Exomecha

has beamed itself into our awareness, and therefore existence, with a new and impressively hectic trailer. It’s an upcoming, free-to-play competitive FPS apparently teeming with vehicles, mechs, and more explosions than is probably healthy. The trailer entrails below. It has piqued my interest, I will admit.

Dontnod Entertainment have popped a spoiler-filled FAQ up for their new narrative-driven game, Tell Me Why, detailing how trans character Tyler’s story is going to be handled. They’ve made the FAQs as sort of content warnings so fans can get an idea of what Tyler’s experience is going to be like before playing.

“So many mainstream narratives about trans people are rooted in pain or trauma, it was important to our team to tell a different, more multi-dimensional story with Tyler,” they say.

Rockstar have opened up a little about future plans for GTA Online, saying that later this year they will launch its “biggest ever update” including “our latest take on Heists in an entirely new location.” That’s mega-vague but potentially quite exciting. You could read a lot into that, dreaming that they’ll be adding Liberty City. Or you could guess it’ll be, like, adding a new bank to Los Santos. I’ll wait before getting too excited but I am glad to hear Rockstar have big plans ahead.
