Bohemian Rhapsody, but everyone is Escharum

Escharum has set a fire in my heart. There were plenty of titbits to be gleaned from last night’s Halo Infinite campaign footage, but the star of the show for me was the incredibly aggravated gorilla who came out of nowhere to deliver a passionate monologue to camera, right at the end. Admittedly, this sounds exactly like something I would invent in a joke post about a fictional Halo demo. But it was quite real, and having slept on it, I’m all the more delighted by it.

Hello Neighbor 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

The strange home-invasion simulator, Hello Neighbor, has managed to bag itself a sequel, set to launch next year. From what I know of the first one, you play as a nosy child who will not stop breaking into a man’s house, no matter how many creepy things you discover in there. Hello Neighbor 2 is plonking you back in that same neighbourhood, except this time it’s an open-world game where you’re stalked by *checks notes* some sort of “raven-like” creature with self-learning AI… what?

Destiny 2 screenshot showing Lord Shaxx, veteran of the Great Beaver Hunt.

If you’ve been plagued by ‘Beaver’ errors gnawing at your connection in Destiny 2, good news: the bug behind the recent Beaver plague has been fixed. Turns out, something was wonky with Valve’s network setup, which they’ve now fixed. Beaver disconnections should now be a lot rarer, especially in the central and eastern USA. I casually say “something was wonky with Valve’s network setup” but if you want a full technical explanation, oh boy, you will enjoy one Valve engineer’s full story of the Beaver hunt.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (RPS)

Some important hairstyle choices to be made when creating a new character in Bannerlord.

Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord has been around for a little while now, but its enormous popularity has been maintained by one very exciting thing: mods>.

At this early stage, there are naturally limits on what can be effectively modded without causing players a headache. The Bannerlord launcher has an integrated mod selection and sorting screen, and TaleWorlds have indicated on their forum that they expect modding to get easier and more powerful over time as more elements of the base game are nailed down.

But modders have already made some changes. The near-inevitable overhauls and reskins and unofficial expansions are a long way off, but many generous players are already sharing the fruits of their work to alter Bannerlords the way they think it should be. Here’s a selection of the best ones so far.

It is weird to me that the makers of Control and Max Payne are working on the singleplayer campaign of a generic-looking paramilitary FPS, CrossfireX. It is even weirder that a new trailer showing off this campaign is soundtracked by an ‘epic’ melancholy cover of DMX’s X Gon’ Give It To Ya. It is less weird that it’s still not been confirmed for PC, though still a bit weird – because surely it’ll come our way too. But really, a sad DMX cover.

Have you ever wanted to just lop off a skeleton’s head and use it as a flamethrower? It’s never even been a thought that’s crossed my mind, but Sea Of Thieves seem to be letting us do exactly that in next week’s update. They’re part of the new Ashen Winds update, which is arriving on Wednesday the 29th of July. Be cautious, though, using up the flame inside your skelly head will make it worth less gold. Hm, money? Or setting my friends on fire? Now that’s a tough choice.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon screenshot.

While Yakuza: Like A Dragon officially doesn’t have a release date, only a November launch window, a listing on the Microsoft Store seems to have given it away: November 13th. The Store has been a real helpful source of leaks in recent weeks, with info on games including Call Of Duty: Black Ops CIA, Crysis Remastered, and Star Wars Squadron. Thanks, Microsoft.
