Don’t look now, FakE3 isn’t over just yet. We’ve still got the next Xbox event tomorrow and yet another Ubisoft Forward too. The latter, it turns out, will be coming in September. The news came during Ubisoft’s quarterly earnings call. At what point do we stop calling it unofficial E3 and just admit we’ve bled into holiday reveals season? Never? Ah, swell.
Riot Games today kick off a new cross-game event starts today in League Of Legends and its two gamebabies, Teamfight Tactics and Legends Of Runeterra. Spirit Blossom is its name, and apparently it’s inspired by “anime”. Y’know, just anime, broadly anime. The event will bring new themed skins and cosmetic bits for all three games, as well as a new character and the return of Nexus Blitz mode in League.

Team Reptile of Lethal League fame have put out a teaser for their next game and dang if it doesn’t look like a Jet Set Radio revival. It’s not though, at least not literally. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk does share a lot with JSR: tagging, tricks, cops, and its composer Hideki Naganuma. The teaser trailer is a short 14 seconds but it doesn’t take even that long to catch its vibe.

The next mainline Yakuza game is treading a lot of new territory. Yakuza: Like A Dragon is ditching series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu in favor of new hero Ichiban Kasgua. They’re shuffling up the usual punch ’em up combat in favor of a turn-based system. Oh, and there’s going to be English voice acting. No, no, don’t go! It actually sounds pretty decent. You can hear the cast in a new English language trailer below.

If the thought of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s Viking rugby tackles and recruitable cats for your long boat has you frothing for more of Ubisoft’s time-travelling murder series, then why not take a stealthy glance at Fanatical’s new Build Your Own Assassin’s Creed bundle? There are ten games to pick from in total, all dating back toward the earlier end of the Assassin’s Creed series, and you can either pick up three for £8.59 / $10 or five of them for £12.49 / $15. Here’s what’s on offer.
Beating the final boss of a Dark Souls game can be an overwhelming experience. You reflect on your journey, the countless hours and failed attempts that led you to this moment, and a wave of emotion rolls over you.
The Twitch channel of Eric “McRaptor” Harper was host to a litany of these moments during the recent “Souls-4-Souls” (SFS) charity tournament that ran in late April. When you think of competitive gaming tournaments, Dark Souls probably doesn’t spring to mind. However, SFS featured 25 challenge runners racing through Soulsborne games as quickly as possible whilst trying to take zero hits. Thousands tuned in to watch.

At last the next sorta spooky game from the folks that did Machinarium and the Samorost games has arrived. Creaks is another puzzle adventure, this time in a mansion full of furniture that comes to life in the dark. It doesn’t look like they’ve awoken to attend a slumber party either. They may hunger for flesh. You can get a good gander at the puzzles in the launch trailer for Creaks down below.

How refreshing it is to have a Scandinavian-inspired story that isn’t about detectives in woolly jumpers unearthing all manner of grisly nasties from the crisp white snow. Röki‘s young heroine Tove does do her fair share of digging in Polygon Treehouse’s gorgeous point and click adventure, but instead of dead bodies she’s collecting celestial stone discs, strange sophorus flowers, and jars of sticky black goo so a giant cat can stop their legendarily dark fur from going grey and ruining his carefully cultivated myth status.
It wouldn’t do to disappoint the locals after so much time spent hibernating underground, of course. Giving a cat the equivalent of a post-lockdown haircut is more than a fair trade for not being eaten, I reckon – especially when it means you can snatch the giant, succulent ham roasting on the fire while your feline friend gazes at their newly dyed locks in the mirror. If only all hairdressers were so generous.

The Mafia: Definitive Edition remake is coming in September, but you can take a look at some of the remade missions ahead of time in a new video. Lost Heaven looks much shinier, of course, and its characters have gotten a glowup, but there have been some updates to how it plays as well, which Hangar 13 explain.
