Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg - KateMels
On July 4 we participated in the game development conference in Odessa, Ukraine. Despite the difficult situation with the pandemics, the organizers managed to hold a relatively small event taking all possible precautions.

Strani Games CEO and founder Ihor Tymoshenko, who also happens to be our lead programmer, is getting ready to travel to Odessa:



At the conference, there were two main activities that we took part in: the game presentation and the lecture for the attendees.

First, we presented our game to everyone interested:



Just before the event, we were approached by another company, proposing to join forces and present our games on their 150 cm wide diagonal touch screens:



The Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg looked awesome on a huge touch screen. You could literally feel yourself an army commander moving tokens symbolizing his troops across the headquarters table.



Secondly, we taught a lecture about the details of our recent controversy in Russia:



The audience was curious to know all the details of our controversial release and asked numerous questions:



After the lecture we went to the afterparty to talk to our colleagues in a more unofficial manner and forge new relations and contacts.

Overall, despite the event being small (due to obvious reasons), we had a lot of productive and insightful discussions and hope that it will help us with both our projects and the overall company development.

We will post some “secret” photos from the afterparty in future news updates, so stay tuned.

Sumerians - Sumerians
To manage a big city and achieve prosperity you'll need various forms of supervision and control. In Sumerians there are several panels providing information about how the city grows, the needs of your citizens, the state of the inventory, and different elements to manage your workers and to adjust or give special orders to each of your buildings.

- The designs for the interface are still a work in progress and some elements may change before, or during the Early Access -

Basic Info
In a fixed panel in the bottom left corner you’ll find, among other things, the total population, the total grain storaged by the state and the game speed buttons.

Some of these elements will open other panels at the bottom center of the screen:
  • Population panel: population growth, population composition, job rate, and emigration values.
  • Satisfaction and Reputation panel: Your reputation relative to the size of the city, the values that determines the quality of life and the state of the private business in the city. A high satisfaction will attract new immigrants and the reputation of the city will influences the amount of immigrants arriving.
  • State Economy panel: All the products owned by you (the State), your workers, and a tool to modify the taxes.





More Stats
  • Population stats.
  • Stats for your products with a sum of the total wealth of the inventory converted to grain value, and the incomes and expenses for each product (produced, bought, consumed, stolen, etc.…)





Single Builing Panels
After selecting one of your buildings you can change how many workers you want to hire, the quality of the salaries, adjust the radius or the priorities of some buildings and give orders to the storages or the trade buildings.





Other Info Views
  • Signs over your buildings -that can be visible or hidden- to see which ones are paused, lack materials, their level of storage or the progression of constructions.
  • And finally, you can also select some values to view over the terrain, like the land value, the security, the irrigation or the water access.

DCS World Steam Edition - OBWKB

Preparation



Our bug-fixing process enables us to better prepare for the next DCS World 2.5.6 Open Beta release. This week we have been working on small graphic glitches whilst continuing to improve the overall load time and frame rate when running high graphic settings. We are also working on multiplayer server glitches seen in large missions, these issues were reported by our closed Beta-Testing Teams.

We have started the final test and debug iteration to ensure we deliver a reliable OB. We would like to thank all our internal and beta tester friends for the efforts needed to find, engage and destroy the bugs.

DCS: Syria
A DCS World Terrain



DCS: Syria is a unique theater of war that includes missions and campaigns of military confrontation in the Middle East from the 60s to the present day. This project allows users to apply nearly the entire arsenal of DCS World aircraft, helicopters and ground equipment. It also includes the possibility to re-enact some of the largest military conflicts of our time.

- The Six-Day War of 1967
- The Arab-Israeli conflict of 1973
- The Lebanese War of 1982
- The War on International Terrorism in the 21st Century

The reasons for these conflicts were ideological and economic contradictions not only of the countries of the Middle East, but also of the USA and USSR superpowers. DCS: Syria is a symbol of real modern war. The Syria theatre will contain military confrontation sites such as Homs Province and Aleppo Citadel, Golan Heights and the Bekaa Valley. Ground-based anti-aircraft missile systems, unmanned aerial vehicles and air-to-air missiles were used here for the first time on a large scale. About 900 airplanes and helicopters were destroyed during these conflicts. Read more on our forum.

In the next publication, we will talk about Beirut International Airport, the Israeli military airfield Ramat David and the largest US Air Force base in the Middle East – Incirlik.

It’s been almost a month since we let our intrepid Alpha testers play around with weapon mods. Thanks to them, we discovered a lot of bugs, a plethora of balance issues and some unexpected interactions that we wouldn’t have possibly been able to fix so quickly otherwise. This is, naturally, not the end, as balancing The Riftbreaker will most likely continue until the release day, but we are on the right track. Today, however, we would like to talk about a different use for all the mods that you will gather during your missions on Galatea 37. Instead of letting unused mods rot in your inventory, you can install them in your defensive towers. That’s right - all of them. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a basic Sentinel Tower or a highly advanced and costly Railgun Tower, you can install mods in every one of them. This gives you an opportunity to mitigate the drawbacks of certain tower types or make their strengths even more pronounced.


You can easily guess which one of the two Sentinel Towers has been upgraded. Nothing beats dual miniguns, though!

Let’s take the Flamethrower Tower as an example. By default, it is an amazing weapon against large groups of small attackers who come right up to your walls, but it can’t do anything about ranged attackers and does very little damage to large foes. By choosing the right mods, you can make up for these disadvantages - adding range and damage over time will solve these issues for you. On the other hand, if you do not need your flamethrowers to be ‘catch-all’ weapons, you can simply increase their basic damage. No Canoptrix will ever be able to handle that!


Who said that flamethrowers can't handle bigger enemies?

The number of mods you can install in each of your towers depends on the level of your structure. At level 1, you have only a single slot to modify the properties of the tower. With each level upgrade, you will gain an additional slot, up to a total of 3. This additionally incentivizes you to upgrade your towers instead of building new ones by giving you an option to utilize the mods you scavenged to the fullest.

Not all mods are going to work with all tower varieties. We are going to make sure that you can only install modifications that will actually have an effect on your tower. For example, increasing the rate of fire of a Flamethrower Tower will not have any effect, because of the continuous nature of its attack. We will hide such mods from your view so that you can make use of them elsewhere.

As we mentioned before, this is still an early implementation of the feature. There are plenty of bugs and balance problems that we are going to solve in the coming months.
