Overwatch

has just finished its most recent Anniversary event, marking four years since the game launched. It’s been a good four years and, to celebrate, some of the developers have written a cute little post detailing some of their favourite moments working on Overwatch. Now, you may be interested in the stories about early character design, or perhaps the one about the whole dev team singing the Pokémon theme tune at a karaoke night. But I personally cannot get this image of a stick figure Tracer out of my head.

They’ve only gone and done it. Those maniacs.

Hive Time is an obscure gem that squeaked into the very end of last year. It’s a game where you be bees. Now it’s part of what will surely be forever called simply The Bundle, mentioned only in hushed, reverent tones. Over 1000 developers have donated their games to the Bundle For Racial Justice And Equality, and they can all be yours, to keep, DRM free, for as little as £4/$5. It’s raised close to $5,000,000 already.

Still not sure? Well, Hive Time’s recent update also had the best trailer ever.

The Season Of Arrivals started in Destiny 2 this week and while the whole season was kept a surprise up until launch, one arrival is a bigger surprise than the rest. Witherhoard, the new Exotic grenade launcher you can grab from the season pass track, will sometimes mysteriously spit enough damage to melt a boss. Most, if not all, of a raid boss’s health bar can vanish in the blink of an eye. Witherhoard already seemed strong to me but this, damn.

Following the massive patch to The Sims 4 prior to the release of the Eco Lifestyle expansion, players almost immediately started having problems with their games. Many reported their games crashing, lost saves, and, for some reason, their Sims peeing fire. This has now been confirmed as a bug, not a feature, but everyone seems to be enjoying it still.

Last night, though, the devs pushed through a hot fix that will hopefully address the most serious issues (as well as changing one of the patterns on a sweater).

In case you missed the news, the Itch Bundle For Racial Justice And Equality, already the best deal in the history of games, just keeps getting better. An actual more than a thousand games for under a fiver? Absolutely unmissable. And here’s another reason why.

I keep a list of games trying to do what Dwarf Fortress does. Unfortunately the nature of these games is so time consuming that progress on working through it is excruciatingly slow. There are many people going after the ☼management game☼ crown. Odd Realm is one of the more humble efforts, but also one of the most impressive.

CPU deals of the week

CPU prices remained pretty steady this week, without any real stand-out CPU deals. The closest we come to a big discount is the £15 price drop on the Intel Core i5-9600K, which falls to £195 in the UK. Actually, the same vendor has knocked £33 off the Intel Core i9-9900K as well, but given that will still set you back £454, it remains a big old ask.

As for the rest of the cheapest CPU deals this week, it’s small changes in dollars and pounds in either direction, but we’ve done our best to find all the latest and greatest CPU deals anyway. With the launch of Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake CPUs finally underway, it’s a good time to bag yourself a cheap CPU deal at the moment, so we’ve listed the best prices for all of today’s [cms-block]s to help you bag yourself a bargain. We’ve got everything here from the best Intel CPU deals to the best AMD Ryzen CPU deals, so whether you’re upgrading your PC or building a new PC from scratch, these are the cheapest CPU deals around right now.

Horizon Zero Dawn

still only has a vague ‘summer’ release date at the moment, but AMD’s latest free games bundle suggests a proper release of Guerrilla Games’ cyber-dino-hunting adventure could be just around the corner. The bundle isn’t up on AMD’s own website yet, but various system builders and component retailers in the UK such as Scan, Overclockers and Chillblast have all got pages outlining the details of the bundle, which runs from now until June 30th.

To support the ongoing protests against police brutality and systemic racism, the Rock Paper Shotgun video team is amplifying Black streamers in an effort to raise money for the great organisation that is the NAACP. Last Tuesday we all watched as Tianna Mercedes put us all to shame by playing a blinder in Call of Duty: Warzone. Today, we’ve got the excellent NNESAGA on to show us her skills in The Sims 4. She’ll be kicking off at 5pm BST.

Oxygen Not Included

occupies a similar space to Factorio and Rimworld in my list of all-time favourite games. All three are marvellous and near-impenetrable management games, oozing with character and complexity. The key difference is that in Oxygen Not Included, it’s guaranteed that you’ll spend at least some of your time expunging whole pints of urine from your base before it can seep into your last remaining water reservoir.

There is no guarantee that you’ll succeed.

The third Borderlands 3 story DLC launches this month, named Bounty Of Blood, and today 2K gave a look at 14-minutes of action from the western-themed adventure. This being Borderlands, the bandits are riding mutant dinosaurs and our heroes saddle up on some kind of half-animal motorbike. It also has a curious unseen narrator who reminded me of a less-charming take on Bastion’s narrator. Come see/hear.
