Mortal Shell - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

While the Soulslike craze of the tensies wandered down increasingly esoteric paths of Soulslikelikes and Soulslikelikelikes, here comes a new one looking to hew relatively close to its inspirations: Mortal Shell. Following its announcement earlier this year, the action-RPG got its first gameplay showing today during IGN’s Summer of Gaming stream. Dank tombs, cryptic conversations, big swords, bigger ladies, and a fella wearing the Elite Knight set? Yeah, I catch your drift, Mortal Shell.

A new trailer for Dual Universe fresh out of notE3 gives a zappy look at the sandbox space MMO’s PvP action, with a few dozen players zipping around in ships they designed and built themselves. It’s flash and all, as notE3 trailers are, but also a bit weird because the sandbox has so, so, so much more than space battles. Even if spacebattles do have colourful lasers and therefore must be the best part.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

If you’ve not been scouring the internet for Yakuza: Like A Dragon gameplay since its release in Japan earlier this year, Sega dished out some details on the next game today. The highlights are of course new protagonist Kasuga Ichiban, a turn-based battle system, and a much bigger map.

Demon Turf: Queens Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

3D worlds and 2D characters combine for a neat look in Demon Turf, a new N64-ish platformer announced today. A diddy young demon with rude ‘tude is out to take over Hell, leaping through levels, hanging round the hub town, and battling bosses. I am a sucker for 2D and 3D coming together and I kinda like Demon Turf’s scrappy style. Have a peek in the announcement trailer below.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Back when Sonic was just a twinkle in Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle’s eye, Sega’s jumpy mascot was a squat lad named Alex Kidd. Then the 90s came roaring in with their rude ‘tude, the Mega Drive launched with controllers shaped like throwing weapons, and the little boy was just not cool enough. Poor lad. If you feel he was done a great injustice, you might be thrilled to hear that his greatest adventure is being remade as Alex Kidd In Miracle World DX. Announced today, it’s coming next year, and you can see it below right now.

Metal: Hellsinger - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Singers from melodic death metal bands including Arch Enemy, Soilwork, and Dark Tranquillity come together to shout in Metal: Hellsinger, a new FPS about blasting demons in time to the music. Sounds a bit like Crypt Of The Necrodancer but way more \m/etal, as I believe the kids said in 2002. See some of the shouty violence in the announcement trailer.

The amount of punctuation in its name may be horrifying enough, but VR game Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife is planned as a proper horror game on its own merit. It’s based on the tabletop RPG Wraith: The Oblivion which shares the World Of Darkness universe with similarly punctuated Vampire: The Masquerade. Seriously, all these colons will murder me faster than any supernatural baddie.
