Rock Of Ages 3: Make & Break

has begun its unstoppable descent, and not even the sturdiest cardboard cut-out can stop it now. ACE Team’s latest boulder-pusher is preparing to break down Steam’s fortress on July 21st. But if you can’t wait that long (and can’t find your own small rock to push down an incline), fear not – Rock Of Ages 3 is rolling into a week of open beta starting this Tuesday, June 9th. Smashing.

Six years after announcement, and we’re still no closer to knowing when Dead Island 2 will shamble our way. Somewhat unexpectedly, though, that hasn’t stopped a select few from getting their hands on a playable build of the thing. Sort of. This week, a 2015 build of Dead Island 2 emerged online, with videos and screenshots revealed Yager’s long-buried vision of a multiplayer blood-in-the-sun sequel.

The Papers are a bit different this week. The ongoing protests in America, and now elsewhere, have resulted in the widespread and overdue realisation that many people (me amongst them) need to improve their understanding of structural racism, and to take steps to help that go beyond tokenistic support. Below you’ll find various resources, aimed at white and non-Black allies, that I hope you’ll find useful.

I somehow missed the fact that Treachery In Beatdown City has its own full length theme, and it is the greatest thing that has ever happened.

It’s about damn time. After months of preparation, Destiny 2 is ready to blow up The Almighty, the massive Cabal spaceship that’s been threatening to smack The Tower all through this season. The fireworks kick off in a few hours – and in a new move for Bungie, it sounds like you’ll be able to watch the calamity as it happens in what may be Destiny 2’s first live, in-game spectacle.

Chances are, you’d never even heard of SimRefinery unless you were one of a handful of chemical engineers at Chevron during the early 1990s. That’s if you knew about SimCity developers Maxis’ brief foray into the world of business management tools at all, mind. But thanks to some good old online word-of-mouth and a retired engineer refusing to throw away old floppies, Maxis’ obscure oil refinery simulation has been immortalised for free on the Internet Archive.

This weekend, indie-centric storefront Itch.io kicked off their massive Bundle For Racial Justice And Equality. Pulling together a collection of 749 (and counting) indie darlings, hobby projects and unsung curiosities for a meagre $5, Itch’s massive bundle has currently raised well over $400,000 for legal defence funds across the United States – and there’s no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

EVE Online - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

When EVE Online starts throwing the big space-bucks around, it’s usually because two or more interstellar empires came to blows. Colossal battles demolishing entire armadas, grand acts of subterfuge that leave once-thriving corporations penniless. But after player-built Citadels started falling into disrepair last week, pilots are making serious bank by scrapping neglected stations – with one scavenger netting a tidy 4 trillion ISK after digging up some of New Eden’s rarest goodies.

After a week where it was somehow Tuesday every single day, it is now the weekend. What’s that, Saturday evening? A takeaway in my pyjamas? Oh, you spoil me. But I can’t, Saturday evening, I’ve promised Saturday afternoon I’d forget what time it was and play games until 2am.

What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!

Electronic Arts are making room for “important voices being heard,” I assume in the Black Lives Matter movement though they don’t name it, by delaying their EA Play Live event by a week. Other online events have done the same this week, leaving space for the public to protest police brutality and other injustices faced by Black people before they encourage a return to discussing their game lineup.
