As you may or may not have noticed, there is a bit of a hoo-ha going down about kernel-level anti-cheat software. This is software that peeps at what Windows is up to using administrator privileges, which some people are understandably unhappy about. Happily, then, Doom Eternal developers Id Software are going to rid their game of Denuvo Anti-Cheat. The purge will come in an update planned for “within a week”. They only added Denuvo-Anti-Cheat last week.

Unhappily, that also means going back to no anti-cheat software at all for the time being.

As a general rule of thumb, if you want more pixels, you’ll need to fork out more cash. Bucking that trend back in November 2018, in the halcyon days when leaving the house was a viable option, was the AOC U2879VF – a monitor that Katharine rather liked when she reviewed it at £273. Now it’s down to £190, which makes it a stone-cold bargain if you’re in the market for a new panel and don’t want to spend a huge amount of money.

Ever wanted to remote control a person?

Well now you can, through series of remote tours currently being conducted by the tourist board of the Faroe Islands. You don’t even need an account. Just show up at their website and click on the little controller, and they’ll walk around while you see what they do.

I saw the process for myself last night. Is it cute? Is it creepy? Yes. Yes, it is.

Best SSD for gaming 2020

The world of loading screens may, apparently, be over with the imminent arrival of next-gen games, according to Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 demo, but with game install sizes continuing to balloon each month, having one of today’s best SSDs for gaming inside your PC is still absolutely essential. Not only are they much faster at opening and saving files on your PC than a traditional hard disk drive (HDD), allowing Windows and games to load in a flash, but they’re also cheaper than ever before, meaning you don’t have to break the bank to get some decent storage. Whether you’re in the middle of upgrading your PC or about to build a new PC, you need one of our best SSD for gaming picks.

Readers may know by now that I am a fan of first-person games where you walk around a lovely environment and get creeped out. Close To The Sun is not only one of those, but it also has a fun weird-alt-history plot where Tesla kicked Edison’s ass and created a giant floating ship-state of scientists in international waters.

Desperados III - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

There’s a new trailer in town for cowboy stealth game Desperados 3. What they’re calling an “explanation trailer” doubles as a very long gameplay trailer that pretty well serves as a tutorial too. The new video goes over each of the characters, cover mechanics, coordinated attacks, and lots more with a nice fresh look at each.

If you’ve got several cascading sticky notes on your computer monitor with the times and dates of all the not-E3 digital gaming showcases this year, yeah, me too. Here’s another that definitely deserves to be on the list. Wholesome Direct is “meant to bring further attention to some of the most promising wholesome games,” which as you might imagine are mostly lovely indie games. You’ll be able to catch it next Tuesday, May 26th.

EVE Online - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sin Vega)

Space conniving sim Eve Online will round off celebrations for its 17th birthday by bringing an end to the Invasion update with a massive invasion.

Newbie void villains, the Triglavians, have been vaguely menacing players for almost a year, but they’re about to arrive in force, starting a war with regular space that players can join on either side. The outcome of all this will depend on players, and according to CCP, it’ll have lasting consequences on the game’s playable space.

If Found... - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

I’ve not yet played If Found… but several folks on my Twitter timeline seem to be digging in and I usually take that as a positive sign. It’s an interactive story game that says it’s about “going home, coming out, and erasing everything” when a girl named Kasio returns home to Ireland in 1993.

Crucible Beta - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

Amazon’s first big PC game has arrived, and it’s inviting you to an alien planet to harvest its resources and take out enemy teams. It’s called Crucible and it’s a third person sci-fi shooter with some MOBA elements thrown in for good measure. Each game has you play as one of 10 Hunters, each with their own unique play styles and abilities, and you’ll need to work with the other Hunters in your team to complete objectives. The best part is that it’s free-to-play, so it’s worth having a go – I really think this is one to watch.
