Grand Theft Auto V Legacy

Grand Theft Auto 5 modders are at it again, tinkering with Rockstar's epic to make it look like something you'd need a next-generation console to run.

The video, below, is a wonderfully-put together trailer showcasing a work-in-progress visual overhaul mod called NaturalVision Evolved. While this mod is in the early access stage, it's clear to see impressive work has already been done to the game.

NVE makes numerous improvements to the weather effects, the game's lighting, ambient colours, world textures and building models, so much so that at points GTA 5 looks photo-real.

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 (2009)

Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Warzone anti-cheat effort seems to be making an impact in the free-to-download battle royale.

This week, the developer enabled two-step SMS authentication for new Warzone PC users who log-in as free-to-play.

This was seen as a crucial step in the fight against Warzone cheaters, many of whom would simply create a new account, download the free-to-play Warzone and jump straight back into the action after a ban.

If you've ever been a fan of Edge magazine, you'll probably know that Thursdays are special. One Thursday a month is Edge Thursday, which means a trip to the shops to pick up the latest issue. Coronavirus has seen to that lovely ritual for the time being, alas. But Edge has had its own response, and it's genuinely magical - a reminder of the power of games, but also a reminder of the power of magazines. Magazines! This perfect bit of technology that can package up a bunch of things and bring them together with some kind of order and structure and glittering coherence. If this makes you think about Lucky Peach, save it - I'm not ready to face those emotions yet.

Edge's first issue since Lockdown is called Feel Better. It's actually pretty hard to get hold of now - I had to buy it online but I gather it's since sold out. I wanted to talk about it a little bit, though, because it genuinely did make me feel better. Mission accomplished.

(I should probably get this caveat out of the way now. Although Edge is not affiliated with Eurogamer, a lot of us have written for the mag in the past, and many of our freelancers still do. When it comes to Edge I am deeply partisan. Also I appreciate that media writing about media can be at best a bit cozy - apologies!)

DOOM Eternal

Doom Eternal, the latest entry in developer id Software's legendary FPS series, has just received its first free content update on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, introducing the likes of Empowered Demon foes, a new Echelon rank system, and more.

Empowered Demons are particularly deadly opponents with a unique trick; they're designed to hop from one player's solo campaign to another each time the demon successfully eliminates the campaign's host. It's a process that will continue, with the creature growing more and more powerful, until a player manages to bring its reign to an end.

Players that successfully defeat an Empowered Demon will be rewarded with additional ammo, health, and bonus XP. However, those that don't wish to take advantage of Doom Eternal's new feature can toggle it on and off as they choose.

As you might expect, E3 won't be happening as usual this year. First its physical event was cancelled, then all online plans were scrapped, leaving it up to publishers (and the likes of Geoff Keighley) to make their own plans.

Though we can expect multiple standalone announcements throughout the summer instead of the usual week-long rush, early June - around when E3 2020 was set to take place anyway - remains a focus for most publishers and streaming partners to show off their games.

Ultimately, E3 is still happening in all but name - though, for the sake of simplicity, it's still the label many people (including ourselves) are still attaching to any summer conferences taking its place this year.
