One of many changes planned for Destiny 2‘s next year is a time limit on how long players can keep boosting their gear’s level to remain viable. Legendary-rarity weapons and armour will get one year to shine, and then they’ll be left to fade away. Bungie say it’ll make the game stay fresh over time, get players chasing new loot, and let them make things powerful knowing that they won’t stay around forever. Yes, one day you’ll put your Recluse away.
“Our weapons are the primary way that players interact with the world, and Season over Season we want players to discover new weapons that feel powerful, have interesting new perks to explore, and power the builds that players craft in new and unexpected ways,” Bungie say.

Let’s bask in some RPG rays before the week’s out, shall we? The Waylanders is an upcoming adventure spanning two time periods set to the tune of Celtic folklore. It’s a party-based RPG, part of why it calls itself inspired by the likes of Baldur’s Gate and Dragon Age: Origins. Other similarities seem to be the focus on story, which we see the beginnings of in a new trailer.

Things have been quiet in Anthem land ever since BioWare confirmed that they were reinventing the ill-received sci-fi game. BioWare want to break their silence on Anthem NEXT and start sharing more, but don’t want you to hold your breath. “Spoiler – this is going to be a longer process,” says studio director Christian Dailey.

You can get yer mitts on this wacko adventure game Tales From Off-Peak City Vol. 1 now that it’s fully released on PC. It was a Humble Choice subscriber exclusive previously when RPS review slinger Nate took a crack at it. Fortunate for me, as I’m not sure I could explain the surrealist jazz romp without his assistance. It’s out on Itch and Steam now, so you can snap it up if it’s your brand of odd.

Sale season is well upon us and Humble Bundle are jumping into the mix, though the occasion isn’t the summer sun. Instead, Humble are celebrating their increased efforts in indie game publishing under the new name Humble Games. As is Humble’s thing, the sale will benefit selected charities, this time a few Covid-19 relief efforts.

OK, time for a classic palaeontology opener metaphor, I’m afraid. You ever heard of a ‘living fossil’? It’s not an enemy from Deathtrap Dungeon, alas, but an organism that’s remained virtually unchanged for huge stretches of time. The archetypal living fossil is the coelacanth, a fish that first appeared in the fossil record getting on for half a billion years ago, with thick, stumpy fins poised right on the cusp of becoming rubbish legs. However, it never took after its taxonomic cousins and invaded the land – instead, it persisted with that same liminal body plan, in the evolutionary equivalent of being forever on the brink of sneezing, until it got binned with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. And then, off the coast of South Africa in 1938, a fisherman caught one. Unchanged. To look at a coelacanth is to look into deep time, and even though it’s not much cop as an actual fish, it’s beyond fascinating as a piece of living history.
So Deathtrap Dungeon, yeah? It’s that. Only it’s a game rather than a fish. And rather than providing a haunting glimpse down through the yggdrasilian roots of tetrapod biology, it’s a showcase of how simultaneously charming and rubbish 1980s trad fantasy was.

The PGA Tour is returning to the digital green after former stewards Electronic Arts took to the bench after 2015. 2K have taken over and put this year’s golf ’em up in the hands of HB Studios who did The Golf Club series. HB are bringing their teexpertise to PGA Tour 2K21 and some other fresh simulation bits on August 21. Oh, and lots of polos with logos on ’em.

The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X is a gaming CPU that blew us away when Katharine tested it the other week. Despite only having four cores to its name, it’s a surprisingly powerful processor and its price is a very reasonable RRP of £115 / $120. That’s the good news. The bad news is that everybody noticed, and now it’s in short supply as people clearly love a bargain. So we’ve done some digging and found the best prices for the Ryzen 3 3300X right now, as well as where you can actually get your hands on one.
