Five people were charged this Sunday with fixing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive matches, according to Victoria Police. If found guilty, they could face up to a decade in prison.

The clumsy fliers currently inspiring piscine aerobatics down at my local chalk stream live longer than the average friendly in a game of communal Combat Mission. Usually by this point – turn 4 – the Comment Commanders have managed to lose at least one tracked, wheeled, or booted asset. The fact that Colonel Croesus’ swarm of goldbugs have yet to sustain so much as a stubbed toe is a testament to cautious shepherding and, it has to be said, a fair-sized helping of good luck.
(Colonel Croesus is an open-to-all game of Combat Mission: Fortress Italy in which Allied forces are orchestrated by commenters while German units are computer controlled. Each daily turn covers one minute of WeGo action. For a scenario outline and accounts of earlier turns, click here)> (more…)

When I think back to the launch of Final Fantasy XV back in 2016, I still can’t quite believe that Square Enix managed to get away with it all. Everyone might be kicking off now about separating the Final Fantasy VII Remake into multiple who-knows-how-many parts, but at least we know (hopefully) that they’re all going to be actual games. If you wanted to understand what the heck was going on in Final Fantasy XV, you had to watch a 110 minute CG movie called Kingsglaive first, then a five-part anime series called Brotherhood.
There was also an entirely separate (albeit promotional) game detailing the life and fun adventure times of the main character’s dad called A King’s Tale, and a real-life version of the in-game> minigame, Justice Monsters Five. You didn’t need to play the last two to understand the story, but man alive, what a mad old set of affairs, eh? And that’s before we get to the whole DLC debacle.

After the official soundtrack for Doom Eternal was released on April 18th to Collector’s Edition owners, players quickly noticed that something sounded off. It turned out that there was a marked difference between the tracks Eternal’s composer Mick Gorden had mixed himself and those done internally by Id Software. At the time, it was unclear why, though Gordon seemed displeased with the disparity. Id’s executive producer Marty Stratton has published an open letter today offering their side of the story.

May the 4th is not yet over so there’s still some Star Wars Day 4th to be with you. EA have announced and released a free update to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order that focuses on the veteran force users among us. The Halo: Master Chief Collection is rolling right along this year. It appears that 343 Industries are approaching the release for Halo 2 Anniversary. They’ve also shared first looks at Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST in the meantime. Their newest development update covers that and, as usual, much, much more.

As was foretold, Fortnite‘s new Party Royale island is real. As an alternative to its main Battle Royale mode, Epic have introduced “a new experimental and evolving space” where friends can hang out and play minigames together or, apparently, attend a concert by DJ man Diplo performing his Major Lazer set last Friday. It was the latest in a series of live events that Epic have been testing in Fortnite and it seems like we can expect plenty more now that they’ve got a dedicated space for them.
E3 2020 may be cancelled but many of its big announcements will still be made. Electronic Arts today EA Play, their annual E3-adjacent showcase of upcoming games, will return on June 11th. That would have been the final day of E3. They’ll once again host a live show with games and that, just without an audience sitting MORTIFYINGLY close. Now begins the guessing game: what will EA have to show this year?
