Hey there, Priceless Gang. How are you doing? Are you getting enough sunlight? Going for your government-sanctioned walks? The weather has been getting warmer here in California, but the beaches are still closed. Sometimes I will walk all the way to the beachfront balustrades, give the ocean a little nod, and then turn around and walk back home. It’s nice to see that it’s still out there, not giving a damn. Enviable, tbh.

Here’s a quick little instalment of the latest free games on the ‘net that I think are worth your while. Ephemeral blink-and-you’ll miss it games, games with gardens, and games about the woods. Be good out there.

There’s more than a bit of metal in Doom Eternal. The rhythmic bass blasts of super-shotguns, tinny chaingun power solos, verses punctuated by gory breaks and technical fingerwork. It’s only natural that Doom’s soundtrack contains a little bit of hell in kind. But beyond all the blood and bass and demonic incantations, audiophiles have found Doom 2’s cover art embedded in the very roots of Mick Gordon’s heavy metal soundtrack.

Apex Legends is getting a bit of a shakeup for the end of season four. Starting next Tuesday, April 28th, Respawn Entertainment are adding a two week Battle Armor event taking place on the King’s Canyon map. You’ll drop in with the same tier armor as everyone else and you won’t find new armor as loot, so you’re stuck making the most of what you’ve got. Respawn say the event will evolve over the 14 days it’s active, culminating in Evo armor-only matches.

Are all you kids out there still playing Minecraft? Let’s hope so, because some folks have made a Minecraft map to teach you younguns about how social distancing and healthcare services work together to beat a pandemic. It sounds a bit corny off the cuff but it does look pretty neat, actually, and although it’s not a scientifically-accurate model, it might actually help teach some folks in a more visual manner than talking heads on the news.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Well well, it’s not every day (or year) that you see a new custom story mod for The Witcher. Yes, the original Witcher with the clunky combat and clunkier menus and questionable voice acting that is still pretty enjoyable despite all that. This new adventure is made in The Witcher 1 but takes place after the events of The Witcher 3. Geralt finds his way back to the outskirts of Vizima where, as usual, there’s a murder mystery to solve and a monster to catch.

The dog companions in Fallout games are iconic. Dogmeat? A hero. Rex? The best boy. I was surprised Fallout 76 never put in any sort of dog friend to help you out, but now I see Bethesda were just taking their time getting round to it. In a Q&A on Reddit yesterday, a couple of developers teased some of the stuff coming to the wastelands of Appalachia, and it looks like pets might well be on their way.

“Now that we have our companions system in the game, we are looking to add pets as well,” said project lead, Jeff Gardiner.
