As eager telescope wielders might have spotted if they were watching our Sea Of Thieves stream yesterday, there’s a new vid bud aboard the good ship RPS. It’s Colm Ahern, former editor and video star of VideoGamer. Please join me in wishing him a warm welcome in the comments below – and read on for some more team news.

Kojima Productions today announced they’ve delayed the PC launch of Death Stranding by six weeks, pushing it back to July 14th. With the company offices closed by the pandemic, and working from home evidently causing a few hiccups, they’re taking a little more time to get it right. Ah go on, I’ll wait.

HTC Vive Cosmos review

VR headsets have always been quite an expensive proposition for a lot of people. Oculus may have been slowly driving down the price of VR over the last couple of years with their PC-based Rift S headset and standalone Oculus Quest, but HTC’s Vive headsets have remained firmly at the higher, more prohibitive end of the VR gaming pool ever since the very first Vive came out in 2016. At first, it was all to do with delivering a superior experience to Oculus’ respective headsets thanks to HTC’s superior tracking technology, room-scale VR and higher resolution display, but the onward march of technology has meant that upgrading a Vive headset has become increasingly more costly with every new iteration.

The HTC Vive Cosmos attempts to rectify that problem with its modular faceplate design. Instead of having to chuck out the entire headset when a new one comes along, all you need to do with the Vive Cosmos is buy a new tracking faceplate and snap it onto the front. It’s a brilliant idea in theory, and one that’s just beginning to come to fruition with the upcoming release of the even cheaper Vive Cosmos Play and the more advanced Vive Cosmos Elite headsets. I’ll be reviewing the HTC Vive Cosmos Elite in a separate piece very shortly, but needless to say, buying a new faceplate for £200 / $200 is a lot easier on the wallet than shelling out almost a grand for an entirely new headset. Is it an ecosystem worth buying into, though?

THQ Nordic today announced a June 16th release date for Desperados III, a revival of the rootin’ tootin’ real-time tactical squad game. Last seen in 2006, Desperados was a decent wild west take on ye olde Commandos series. What’s particularly exciting about Desperados III is that it’s being made by Mimimi, the studio who already proved their tactical chops with Shadow Tactics: Blades Of The Shogun. Hurry up, June.

PONG Questâ„¢ - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

The creature wearing the skin of Atari have revisited perhaps the most iconic video game of the company whose bones it sucked clean of marrow then crunched to dust and swallowed, today releasing Pong Quest. It’s Pong, but also sort of a dungeon-crawler. I am sceptical of everything the creature wearing the skin of Atari does, especially after terrible decisions like rebooting Asteroids as a multiplayer survival game (since vanished), but new twists on old arcade games can turn out quite fun. HMMM. Observe, a trailer follows.

AMD Ryzen CPU

After claiming several top spots in my best gaming CPU list last year, AMD have just announced they’ve got two more Ryzen 3000 CPUs on the way for desktop PCs: the Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X. Based on AMD’s Zen 2 core architecture, these are set to be AMD’s fastest Ryzen 3 processors to date. They’re also the first Ryzen 3 CPUs to make use of AMD’s simultaneous multi-threading technology for better productivity, too, offering a tangible step-up from AMD’s current (and only) Ryzen 3 processor, the Ryzen 3 3200G. That’s not all AMD have announced today, either, as they’ve also unveiled a brand-new motherboard chipset to go with them – the long-awaited AMD B550 series, which is the successor to the popular B450 chipset. Here’s everything you need to know.

The genre of audio games isn’t well-known, mostly because the games are created with a specific audience in mind: the visually impaired community. While in traditional games resources such as images or videos are used to represent game scenes, in audio games the situations and environments are portrayed almost exclusively through sound, not wholly unlike a Dungeon Master describing scenarios in a game of Dungeons & Dragons. In most cases audio games lack any kind of graphics, and when they do have them, they’re not really that important.

But audio games can be played and enjoyed by everyone, and there are a lot to choose from once you start exploring. There are currently more than 1000 audio games from all imaginable genres, from elaborate adventure games to in-depth simulations. As an introduction to the form, I’ve highlighted seven of the best audio games in different genres below.
