Hey, you. Yes, you! You look like you’re after a Discord full of decent folks to chat and play games with. May I recommend to you the RPS community Discord? It’s been around for yonks but I am today pointing it out again because hey, it’s a good time for a good place. I’ve been on the RPS Discord a while myself, falling into our Destiny 2 clan and then Destiny raiding and well, that’s me cursed for life. It’s nice.

Welcome to the day the music died. Or, well, not entirely. Rocksmith still has plans for “weekly online content,” but Ubisoft San Francisco have wrapped up their planned DLCs for the guitar tutorial game as of the newly-released Opeth Song Pack. The team is moving on to a new—as yet unannounced—project. More music? We shall see.

Regions Of Ruin - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sin Vega)

Regions Of Ruin is an excellent 2D side scrolling action-RPG. It’s also a town builder, as you build up a settlement from nothing using the wood, stone, iron, and all the other biz you liberate from bandits, monsters, and generally anyone who gets in the way. It’s a little bit like Terraria, with more of a fighty, loot-happy structure. And throwing axes.

It’s currently free to keep on Steam if you grab it by Tuesday, and honestly, it’s probably the best bargain you’ll see this week.

Update: Annnd now it’s official, Saints Row: The Third Remastered is coming May 22nd. See some old/new comparisons in the trailer below.>

While we still don’t know anything about the new Saints Row game that Volition are currently making, thanks to a wee leak we do know that the 3rd Street Saints will revisit an old adventure in Saints Row: The Third Remastered. That name comes via a listing in the Entertainment Software Ratings Board database, an organisation who tend to y’know not just make up games for funsies. Seeing as publishers THQ Nordic haven’t yet announced SR3 Remastered, exactly what it changes is unknown – but we can probably guess.

I’m still struggling to grow a respectable pumpkin in my Stardew Valley farm, and now it seems I’ll have more obstacles to contend with, as I’ve been diverted by Stardew publisher Chucklefish. Last week they released three (3) new screenshots for Witchbrook, their upcoming life sim set in and around a magic school. It has been described by many, not unreasonably, as “Harry Potter meets Stardew Valley”.

This is exciting to me. I like games like this, and am also a HP fan (Hufflepuff; unofficial merch only). Witchbrook doesn’t have a release date yet, as Chucklefish are operating on an it’s-done-when-it’s-done-and-no-crunch policy, but the new screenshots show off a very detailed, very beautiful world. And having no set release date means they have plenty of time to put in all the features that I, their number one customer, insist upon! Which I will now list for you here.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sin Vega)

We’re still neck deep in horseflies and looter gizzards here at the sinister RPS emergency underdome. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a hefty game with a lot of moving parts, and I expect to be playing and talking about it for a long time.

But right now the most important news is that a player has created a custom banner editor. You can now fly your own designs on flags, shields, and even over your own castles.

Sam & Max Hit the Road - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

As I continue my coughogeddon-inspired journey into comfort gaming, my next intended destination was Day Of The Tentacle. I’ve always loved it, ever since my dad bought me the prism-shaped box it so ridiculously came in. I’ve replayed it so many times, most recently last year four years ago when the Remastered version came out. (FOUR YEARS?>) I adore it. But as I started it up, and started solving the puzzles before they were introduced, swapping in left-handed hammers to reverse statues in rooms I’d not even visited, saying lines before they were delivered, I realised perhaps I’ve reached the maximum number of plays a game can have? Uh-oh. So I pulled the emergency cord and booted up Sam & Max: Hit The Road.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

According to new rumours, Resident Evil 8 will come out next year. It’ll be in first-person, says serial leaker AestheticGamer, “and many purists are going to hate it” because “it’s taking some serious departures [with] story/enemies and the like”.

If you believe the rumour, it started life as Revelations 3, a more experimental spin-off game, but testers liked it so much that developers Capcom decided to turn it into a full fledged entry in the main series.

With board game nights going online, one tool you might find helpful to keep rolling bones, flipping dominoes, tapping tokens, dealing cards, and fighting over who gets to be the Scottie dog is Tabletop Simulator. And lo, the toolkit to virtually simulate all sorts of tabletop games with pals or by yourself is half-price on Steam right now. You can play a load of preset old favourites, design your own games, try to copy a favourite game using the creation tools, or just freely download games other people have made/copied.

Middle-earthâ„¢: Shadow of Warâ„¢ - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Ollie Toms)

With Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor, I thought, “This is it. They’ve perfected Arkham-style combat. It can’t get better than this.” With Middle-earth: Shadow Of War, I realised how mistaken I’d been. (more…)
