Developed during the mid 1970’s, the AH-64 Apache represents one of the most widely used and recognizable attack helicopters in the world. Coming with update ‘Viking Fury’, War Thunder pilots will have the chance to take control of several variants of one of the most legendary flying machines from recent military history - all coming as part of the next major update!
The AH-64 Apache will arrive in War Thunder as part of the upcoming update 1.97 ‘Viking Fury’ and will become available to pilots in several different variants. Namely, pilots will gain access to both the early AH-64A Apache, as well as the later, more advanced AH-64D Apache Longbow, and its British version, the AH Mk.1. For pilots that wish to add yet another Apache to their virtual hangar, a special Israeli premium version of the AH-64A will also be available for purchase on the online store, which will provide additional in-game benefits and speed up research on the regular tree versions!
The iconic AH-64 Apache will finally be making its way to the battlefields of War Thunder and thanks to coming in a number of different variants, pilots will have the chance to experience the legendary Apache in several different ‘flavors’. Be sure to unlock the AH-64 Apache and rain down death and destruction on your enemies in War Thunder update 1.97 ‘Viking Fury’! In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned to the news to find out what else the next major update has in store for you. Until then, clear skies pilots!
New mechanics for pilots: ground target search radar, flares and automatic correction for target marker (ballistic calculator).
Modern military vehicles are dependent on many high-tech systems which are designed to improve its efficiency and survival on the battlefield many times over. Implementing such vehicles in War Thunder we can also not forget about this feature and in update 1.97 “Viking Fury” it is time for pilots to get acquainted with the new features.
Flares
An effective method of counteracting heat-seeking missiles will be available for aircraft pilots of for example such vehicles as the Phantom F-4E.
Firing flares will allow most air-to-air missiles to be directed in the wrong direction but don’t forget that such a trick will not work with missiles launched from surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems which are guided by laser beam.
A Constantly Computed Impact Point (CCIP)
Pilots of modern attack helicopters will be able to shift part of the “work” of pointing with the automatic system which displays on your screen with high precision not only the sight of the automatic cannon or unguided rockets but also a specific point where shells or unguided rockets will impact based on current speed and heading!
For aircraft pilots, this fire control system will also calculate the point of impact of a bomb and display it on your screen.
Ground target detection radar
Radar stations are not the sole prerogative of self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and SAM’s - they can also be found on more and more vehicles from aircraft to naval vessels. If you are not familiar with this mechanic it is probably the right time now to discover it as helicopters have learned how to detect ground targets with their radars!
Advanced radars will mark the detected ground vehicles on your radar and clever systems will point the sighting optics in the direction of the selected target at your very first command.
New radial menu
We have also implemented a new radial menu which conveniently groups all the key functionality of such a radar for more user friendly control of the noticeably complex detection and guidance systems.
With all its advantages even such impressive mechanics can not become an absolute weapon. Radars that are implemented in War Thunder are based on honest physical laws and will not allow reflected signals through buildings, massive shelters and even vegetation. Therefore in order to detect the enemy armoured vehicle you will need to take a risk with being spotted on enemy radars.

UPDATE 04/13 - NOTES
We have a few minor known issues that are present in the release of Chapter One but that are by no means 'game-breaking'. Please only email us with issues that are not listed below on kris@wtncgame.com and we'll get back to you ASAP!
- BUG: Narrative/Story Log will sometimes show as blank; This is a known Unity bug where scrolling is not working for some users. We have raised a ticket with Unity for assistance and will fix as soon as we know how.
- BUG: Incorrect MC Role showing on save screen; your save files may display the incorrect role before your character name when saving. This is a random bug we're trying to isolate and find the root cause so we can fix, so please email us if you have this issue! Your save game will still load the correct route.
- In-Development: We're still working on implementing saving during menus/choices so please bear with us on that! We'll have it ready as soon as we're happy with it.
