Rejoice, for one of the capitalist high holidays is upon us. Valentine’s Day is this Friday in our world, which means that every one of your online games will need a pink-themed event to keep you grinding for special pink items. This is Borderlands 3, so it involves hearts and> shooting because if “guns” were a personality trait, they would be Borderlands’. The Broken Hearts Day event begins tomorrow, during which you’ll use your superior gun charisma to woo loot out of enemies.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Despite making its name as a last man standing game of 30-ish minute rounds, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has dabbled with speeding up its matches over the years. It hasn’t quite outrun the “running simulator” pejorative because apparently I’m one of the few folks that actually enjoys having sweaty palms and an elevated heart rate while tactically sneaking from bush to bush as the play area narrows. Everyone else wants more action and fast.

PUBG Coprp have attempted a team deathmatch mode before but it didn’t stick back in 2018. TDM is back, for real this time, in the form of two teams of 8 shooting it out on small slices of PUBG’s existing maps.

BATTLETECH - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

After three expansions and almost two years, BattleTech is just about done. The developers, Harebrained Schemes say they have one last free update due later this month February then that’s the end of their current plans for the turn-based tactical mech ’em up. After this, they’re focusing on making two new projects. Mysterious, non-BattleTech projects. Could it be the Crimson Skies some long for?

It’s nearly time for the monthly Sea Of Thieves content update and Rare have shared a few details on what to expect for February. In their commitment to everything being on fire all the time now, a new flaming variety of cursed chest will threaten your deck with flames. The kingdoms I play in most management games are doomed, though that’s most often a consequence of my poor management skills. In Yes, Your Grace, I’m convinced that the kingdom of Davern is meant for the ashes either way. You’ll take over as king and spend part of your days approving or denying requests from your petitioners with your meager resources and the rest attempting to be a not too crappy dad to your three kids. Brave At Night have just announced that you’ll be able to make your own poor kingdom-crashing choices in March.

Temtem - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

By the time you get to the third Temtem dojo, you’ve probably met the vast majority of the available Temtem. But then the third dojo leader springs Shuine upon you and suddenly things get a lot more difficult. Naturally, once you’ve beaten it, you’ll want one. Temtem - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

Do you want a Temtem that’s a reliably hard-hitter, has access to great moves, and not too many glaring weaknesses? At some point in the game, you’re just given one of the best Temtem available in the Early Access build. It’s a Netural/Crystal type Temtem that sprints like a ninja from a certain popular anime show. Don’t let its silly run deceive you, this badger packs a punch.

Metro Exodus - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

Sam’s Story, the latest and last story expansion for Metro Exodus has launched, plonking you in the shoes of a former US Marine who’s trying to find a way home through the Russian wastelands. It has arrived just a few days before Exodus’s year of Epic Games Store exclusivity ends and the game launches on Steam too.

In the launch trailer, we hear gruff Sam talk us through his plans to escape back to the US, and also watch him shoot lots of dudes and get attacked by many gruesome creatures.

Hades - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alex Wiltshire)

When Supergiant Games started to make Hades, their Rogue-like action-RPG, they had plenty of experience making narrative games. Across Bastion, Transistor and Pyre, they d found they were pretty good at telling stories. But in a Rogue-like>? And what s that? They intended to put Hades in Early Access>? Could they ever fit with the kind of rich characterisation and storytelling that made Supergiant s name?

We were really curious to see if narrative could fit into an Early Access experience, writer and designer Greg Kasavin tells me. And it turns out, it immensely benefits from it. I have to agree. Hades Sisyphean-twitch-action, in which you take repeated runs through the Underworld in an attempt to escape your hellish dad, is brought to life by a setting within the rancorous interplays between the gods of Greek mythology, and dynamic story design which responds to your progress.
