Another week another update! Player animations look much smoother now, but they still are a little quirky, we’re keeping busy though and working as fast as we can to fix all the issues we possibly can. We’re starting to get to the end of the bugs and transitioning over to polishing and balancing so that One More Night feels that much smoother and better of an experience. We have a decent number of fixes and a couple additions this week, we hope you enjoy them!
• Fixed issue after player died and restarted game, night time music played instead of daytime music. • Multiplayer lobby night time slider and difficulty slider now update in-game settings properly. • Added change log to main menu. • Fixed issue causing towers and defenses to sometimes not get destroyed when hp was at 0. • Fixed some performance issues with defenses and towers. • Barricade and Tower Upgrade UIs now are disabled when in building mode to promote more visibility. • Fixed issue causing Barricade and Tower Upgrade UIs to be activated if you placed them during night time. • Fixed issue causing animations to not display correctly. • Made certain objects louder so that player could hear them from further away. • Fixed issue causing player to rotate around a central point while moving if mouse was over player. • Fixed issue causing in-game options menu to not save updated settings correctly. • Fixed some more incorrect enemy re-spawns.
We are very thankful for every person who has taken part in purchasing UDG through Early Access. Our team is working hard to release an update every 1-2 weeks throughout alpha and most of beta. Version 1.0.4 is now live for all Early Access players, please find the full change-log below.
1) Added variations and power check for female "throw effort" soundfx 2) Added first Steam achievement 3) Physics: Fine tuned flight physics when throwing a high angle throw. Discs will now not keep carrying forever after turning and will eventually fade out more realistically. 4) Fix scoreboards to show correct stroke count 5) Removed "Account" button on main menu (not needed currently) 6) Activated first 9 hole course for Dusty Canyon! 7) Activated MP Steam lobbies (P2P only) for testing (gameplay is not functional yet) 8) Bugfix: Sunny Birch hole #2 preview is fixed 9) Distance to hole in player UI is now dynamic and will change after each throw showing the current distance to the basket
Though we still have a lot of work to do, especially when it comes to improving the experience for new players who have not followed us or have much knowledge of the sport. Our goal in the end is for those players who had a hard time acclimating to the game in it's current state can eventually have an easier time getting started. For those that are already enjoying it, we appreciate all of the positive feedback and seeing your reactions on video and streams is only adding to our motivation to continue improving the game. Check out this video below of Disc Golf Comedy bagging an ace (roughly 37 minutes in), his reaction is something that hits at the heart of what our team is trying to achieve with Ultimate Disc Golf.
This is a post from my blog. Check out the full post including images and videos on my website: http://baselinegames.com/blog/
The first month of the year is over and it’s been a productive start of the year for Nira. Almost 200 changes were committed since the start of the year, including a ton of new features and content. In this post I’d like to go over a couple of hightlights and give some insight in the plans for next month.
And there was light!
The first big thing that was added in January was a lighting system. This was long overdue because the day / night cycle had been in the game for a long time, and finding your way at night had been a real chore. It’s not a very complex lighting system, but it does the job and I think it suits Nira very well. To compliment this I added some torches to finally have some vision during the night. I’m also very happy with how the particle effect came out!
Secondly; Beacons! As items and features kept being added, the base building possibilities grew as well. Now as the base building options grew, it also grew more frustrating to lose your base. To solve this issue beacons were added. You put them in the ground and hold the map button to see where they are. You can place up to 4 beacons and change colors to your liking.
In the first week of the year I asked for help translating Nira. I set up a form with all the localisation lines and asked Twitter to help translate. I was overwhelmed with the amount of responses as I received 25 submissions for over 10 different languages. With the localisation system already in place Nira now supports a total of 20 languages.
Screens
Last but not least, with all the new content added to the game and the new lighting system in place, it felt time to update the screenshots. Check out the Steam store page if you're curious!
To conclude
All and all I’m very happy with the development progress. This post only contains highlights but there’s so much more that was done behind the scenes. I’m happy to say we’re finishing January with a very polished Pre-Alpha version of Nira, and the goal for February is to move on to Alpha. Obviously that’s still a long way from done, but it does mean we’re getting one step closer to Steam Early Access.
That’s it for January! Don’t forget to add Nira to your Steam wishlist if you haven’t already and if you really don’t want to miss a thing, make sure to follow me on Twitter or Instagram. Thanks for reading, and till next month!
I hope January treated you well. Let’s take a quick look at what is new in Raygun Gadabout.
Mechanics
Introduced a Shield Break mechanic to the game. Basically if you abuse your shield and allow it to hit zero energy it will break and you won’t be able to use it until it refills to full again. This should encourage more tapping and less spamming. There is a Badge called unbreakable shield that you can equip to avoid this.
The Unbreakable Shield (not necessarily the final name for this) makes your shield umm. Unbreakable… But also reduces maximum shield energy by 25%.
New Areas
Here’s a new area, it’s a small moon called ZEMIAK orbiting a gas giant. It makes for pretty views but rest assured it is filled with horrible alien creatures that will make your skin crawl and head explode.
New Enemies
Here are some enemies that you may recognize, only they are of the giant space variety!
I suggest you not let them get too close to you… There can be some gnarly effects. What are those effects? Well I don’t wanna spoil it!
And…
As always thanks for stopping by and checking out the update. This is only a small sampling of some of the stuff going on. I’m forced to leave some of it out as I don’t wanna spoil some of it.
If you haven’t wishlisted the game. You probably should! You can do so HERE!
Also feel free to join the Official Discord and take part in all manner of shenanigans.
