Ah, Jimmy, we hardly knew ye. Today’s launch trailer for Apex Legends Season 4: Assimilation confirms it. Forge was a bust – a well-executed bait-and-switch that almost had us thinking months of speculation had been for naught. Rest in peace, beefcake. After slaughtering suits and televised stabbing, killer-for-hire and one-time Halloween-announcer Revenant is taking his collection of knives to murder island when the next season starts on February 4th.

Last summer, it came to light that the organisers of E3 had left personal details of thousands of media people (including some of our own) in a file anyone online could access. Welp. It didn’t exactly make anyone keen to return to that cacophonous hellhall. But this year they’re really trying not to leak addresses, phone numbers, or anything, for real. In an update about plans for this year’s show, the ESA say “You should also know that we’ve upgraded our media registration process, which received a lot of attention this past summer.” Yeah, some.

Fancy yourself a dab hand at Tetris, aye? After over 35 years, who doesn’t? Stephen “Increpare” Lavelle wants you to put those skills to the test with his latest free experiment, Schwerkraftprojektionsger t (Gravity Projection Device, Google Translate assures me). Released this week with the look of a quirky old German toy, Lavelle’s devious browser game challenges you to four simultaneous games of Tetris, using the same set of blocks and a gravity-bending twist.

Temtem - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

Gears in Temtem are items that you don’t use yourself. Instead, you give them to your Temtem and they will benefit from their effects. They can augment their attacks, increase their resistance to a type, or even improve your chance to capture a wild Temtem. They’re incredibly useful, but there is usually only one of each in the game.

The best RPGs have always found their home on PC, but it’s a big genre and it can be difficult to know what you should play next. That’s why we’ve put together this list.

Farming Simulator 19 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

You’ve seen the memes but have you sown the greens? All and sundry (and sundried) are today invited to play Farming Simulator 19 for themselves for free, as it’s the latest giveaway on the Epic Games Store. Maybe you’ll try a 360 noscope furrow, or maybe you’ll be drawn into the quiet world of virtual agriculture. My work sim of choice is trucking but yeah I’ll nab this for free. I’ve milked a cow or two in my time.

Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

After a satisfactory trial run with Football Manager last year, Sega Europe have announced that they now plan to use “fully recyclable packaging” for all of their physical PC game releases. Their initial recyclable boxes are made of recycled cardboard with recycled paper manuals too. This scheme will start in earnest with the launch of Total War: Rome II‘s new Enemy At The Games Edition, out next week. It’s a bit weird to still be selling boxes that essentially contain a Steam key and a disc of data that will soon be rendered near-obsolete by downloaded patches, but hey, I suppose this is better than plastic DVD cases.

The brilliant 2017 visual novel Butterfly Soup by Brianna Lei is a story about many things. It is about the pains and prides of growing up Asian American in Oakland, it is about coming out queer, it is about playing baseball and living in a society that only pretends it’s no longer racist. It is about coping with emotional distress and anxiety, it is about homophobia, both internalized and overt. It s about redeeming love for dogs. And it is also about representation.

It’s never a surprise when a graphics card maker announces, ‘Hey, there are going to be new graphics cards this year!’ but we could be seeing a lot more GPUs from AMD in 2020 than we first thought. Announced during their latest financial Q&A with investors, AMD’s head lady Dr. Lisa Su confirmed that not only will we be getting refreshes of their existing Navi graphics cards – that is, the Radeon RX 5700, RX 5700 XT, RX 5600 XT and RX 5500 XT – but that we’ll also see AMD’s next-gen Navi cards arrive by the end of the year as well. Could we finally see some competition for Nvidia’s RTX Super cards?

Coffee Talk - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sin Vega)

Mellow. I see little value in reducing games to a single word, but here that word is inescapable. Coffee Talk is a light visual novel with a drink mixing system, that lets you gently nudge its subplots towards good or bad outcomes.

I can’t tell you it was a particularly gripping, dramatic or funny story. But it was very mellow. That may sound like faint praise. Perhaps it is, but it seems to be exactly what developers Toge Productions were going for.
