A good soundtrack is one thing. It is important, especially in the indie sector. A good or phenomenal soundtrack can make the difference. It can make a good game to an outstanding experience. That’s for sure and we could list a dozen of games which are incredibly good but their soundtrack made them legendary.
We are pretty proud of our soundtrack and in the near future we’ll definitely share some more details on it. However, today we’d like to describe a neat mechanic we included in Resolutiion, which allows us to directly influence the behavior and gameplay of the playeurs. It is a really inconspicuous effect which improved the overall reception of the sound design in various playtests.
It is a speed up effect. During the fights you’ll survive in Resolutiion, you’ll often find yourself fighting against difficult enemies. That means you’ll be challenged a lot and often get low on health. And that’s exactly the moment when the effect kicks in: When you’re low on health, the music speeds up and gets faster the more damage you take and the less health you have. The result: Pressure. Through Audio. And it works pretty well so far. Whenever the music gained speed, testers started swetting.
We’ve seen in other games that the music usually gets slowed down and we tried that, too. However, tests indicated that the effect we wanted was much stronger when the music got faster.
Take a look at what's coming up, This Week In TC2!

CM LET'S PLAY
Ubi-Rich is geared up for another Crewzing Across Motornation! Watch now
Hi everyone! I'm glad to announce that the early PC demo is now available to Patreon backers at the Guild Member level and above. You can find my Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/amemoryofeternity
This is a demo from a very early stage in development, so please forgive a little bit of roughness and the occasional bug (especially as I have implemented a few last minute changes).
I will also be releasing a short guide to demo after release. The demo has an average playtime of about 30 minutes, but it is relatively dense with many options available to the player, and some things could be missed.
Some things that I will be working on for the next iteration of the demo:
Dynamic lighting
A better combat sprite for the player character
Guild house management elements
Blood Pits (combat arenas)
Faction missions
Ability to summon companions to your room (after certain requirements are met)
I’m glad to announce that the 3rd story in “Our Journeys”, I’m a Barrier, is out on Steam! The store page had been updated with screenshots and descriptions.
Now all upcoming stories will have at least 2 endings. Originally, I thought some of them might become Kinetic - “I’m a Barrier” and “Which Cycle is mine?” - but since I got another ending in “I’m a Barrier”, I better do Multiple Ends.
I'm might take a short break and then start writing “Miller’s Blood”, a zombie apocalypse story.
Hello there everyone! Welcome to another Dev Update, where we show you all the latest updates on Solasta: Crown the Magister.
Caer Cyflen, Capital of the Principality of Masgarth
Up until now we've been mostly sharing screenshots and concept art of levels and dungeons, often giving you the oh-so elusive "we'll share that at a later date" answer to every question about what our main city looks like. Well, no longer! With January's Community being about designing the Mayor of Caer Cyflen, it is high time we show you a bit more about what we want the main hub of our game to look like. As a reminder, these are Concept Art - they represent an intention, not the final product!
Welcome to Caer Cyflen. You will find all kind of people here. Disagreements are solved in coins, or in duels. Any other questions?
With three major nations as neighbours, the Embassy Quarter of the Principality is a hot spot filled with diplomats and spies.
We will be sharing in-game screenshots of the city in some future updates. As it stands now, we can already visit it and walk through the streets - but the houses are very grey, the sky is very grey and the ground is very grey. Hey, where did the textures go?
Studio Life
Curious about what's going on at Tactical Adventures' office? Let me share some juicy bits: we're having playtests this week. A few lucky people have been selected to try out the first few hours of Solasta: Crown of the Magister - starting with Character Creation, a little bit of banter in the city tavern and a few tutorials to make sure you're good to go on your epic adventure! Aaaand a fair share of bugs, as is tradition with games that are still in development.
We're also starting to record voices for Act I! Soon enough, our cutscenes will have a whole lot more charm than the silent puppet show we're currently dealing with. Having the party silently staring at you in every cutscene becomes unnerving after a while.
Props
You asked to see more of the little things that make Solasta whole, and we're more than happy to share! Aside from the city of Caer Cyflen, we've also been preparing a whole new level that will remain shrouded in secrecy for now. Can you guess what it will be based on these Concept Art?
Monsters & Enemies
You love the wolf, and we do too! Here are its idle animation and its attack animation.
Now I may not be proficient in Animal Handling, but I'm pretty sure it's not asking for headpats.
A quick bite and it'll be 2d4+2 less HP for you. That will teach you to underestimate wolves!
It's also time for us to introduce a new foe, which will make good use of our vertical space. Please give a warm round of welcome to what will probably become one of your most hated Solastan enemy... The Flying Snake!
As if creepy crawly spiders weren't enough, we've brought snakes on board as well. Snake with wings.
Are you proficient in CON saving throws? What do you mean, why. I'm just asking, that's all.
Did I mention that Flying Snakes are big? Because they are. And they're pissed.
Spells, VFX & Animations
As per tradition, let's end our article with some sparkles and a bang!

When running a gas station “in the middle of nowhere” things are not always black and white. There are many shades of gray in between and you are unlikely to avoid them while playing the game.
It is thus advised to look into security when hiring people to help you run your gas station. Reliable employees that are also security conscious can be a big advantage when you become a target of fraudulent customers or really shady characters.
Gas Station Simulator has multiple pools of somewhat random events triggered by a series of influencing factors such as revenue, expansion level, customer traffic or time of day. These event are things like customers trying to steal something from the shelfs in the shop area, people trying to drive off without paying for fuel or some shady characters deciding it’s a good idea to attempt a robbery. Not to mention really shady characters telling you what pity it would be if something would happen to your large glass windows or educating you on the dangers of dealing with fuel…
Negative events isn’t where it ends. There are also pools of potentially positive events with deals clearly on the shady side. Let’s look at one example that’s representative of various similar events on the supply side of running your gas station. In order to sell fuel to your customers, you obviously have to buy large quantities of fuels and store them in underground depots of your gas station.
You usually buy from known providers and representatives of large fuel delivery companies. But every now and then you might be approached by some shady character offering you a fuel delivery at a significantly lower price, sometimes even half of what you’d normally had to pay.
Certainly a tempting proposition, no question about it. But it comes with some risks. You might not get your delivery or not get it on time. Or the quality might be lower. It can happen, but it doesn’t need to. Actually, you can risk it a few times and discover that some shady characters are more reliable than others. Once you figure out which ones, you can consider seriously cutting your costs making these kind of deals part of your supply chain.
Major update to the various nebulae this week. Color and textures changes, along with a significant improvement in performance using a new type of particle system.
Also this week: Significant changes to the build system and game's size on disk. Disabled control of ships heading using the mouse. Some further smoothing of camera follow modes. Several changes to wild creatures and their attack methods. Fixed issue with sizing of some hover pop-ups.
The new v106 patch has just been released on Steam. There’s a new minor faction, German language support, some feature tweaks, but more importantly for many of you – some very annoying bugs have been fixed!
