PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

Today in Playstyle Royale, the series where I head into a battle royale game and try to earn my chicken dinner while adhering to arbitrary rules, I will run someone over in a plane. They were added to Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds servers last week, opening up a new frontier of aerial murder. I’m not going to give myself any additional handicaps, because I anticipate this will be bloody difficult enough as it is.

Overcooked! 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

Overcooked 2 today launched its free Spring Festival update, inviting us to celebrate the Year of the Rat by cooking up some yummy new dishes on some pretty new levels.

The Lunar New Year-themed content will have us exercising our culinary muscles in five new kitchens, dodging a Chinese dragon that looks like he accidentally wandered in from a local parade.

Half-Life: Alyx - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

In Half-Life: Alyx you will be able to trap headcrabs, the prime nemesis of footlobsters, inside buckets. “It’ll move the bucket as it crawls around”, confirmed the Half-Life: Alyx team in yesterday’s Reddit Q&A, adding that “playtesters all keep reporting it as a bug”. I hadn’t given all that much thought to Half-Life: Alyx but this is honestly a game changer. It’s a little crystallisation of what a Half-Life VR game actually means; something I can clearly see myself doing and enjoying.

Lauren’s already reported that Valve are confident the game won’t be delayed, but I’ve scoured the AMA for other tasty titbits, such as the fact that the 80 people working on Alyx are the “largest single team” Valve’s ever had.

Europa Universalis IV - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Paradox Interactive, the publishers of games from Crusader Kings to Cities: Skylines, have settled into a familiar and successful model: release a game then, rather chase it with a sequel, spend years expanding it with free content updates and paid add-ons. I quite like this when I buy a Paradox game near the start of its long life, and happily buy an expansion or two a year, but the sheer mass and price of extras for later games can be intimidating. Consider Europa Universalis IV, which after sevens years has almost 200 of expansions. I’m very interested, then, to see Paradox are experimenting with an EU4 subscription service that would cover the strategy game and it expansions.

In order to ensure there’s some kind of structure in the decks that you build, Legends of Runeterra lists its cards into different “regions”. Think of regions like the colours in Magic the Gathering, or similar ways to categorise decks in other collectable card games. We’ve put together a comprehensive list of all of the Legends of Runeterra cards in the open beta, sorted by each of the six different regions in the game.

Snakeybus - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Imogen Beckhelling)

Snakeybus was released early last year, introducing the world to the possibilities of driving a bus that gets longer and longer as you collect passengers. The longer you get, the more precarious your situation is, as the possibility of ploughing straight into one of your trailing bus carriages becomes a real threat.

But now that threat can be thrust upon your enemies, because the newly added multiplayer challenges you to race and battle other players in a bid to become the longest bus.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Nate Crowley)

All good things must come to an end. Fortunately for our souls, this maxim also applies to the adventures of disgusting Cowboys. After beasting herons, strangling cops, and drowning in swamps during what became the very darkest segment of the RPS Christmas livestream, it was finally time to hang up my snake-wrecking boots, drink my last tin of poorly-preserved, lukewarm peaches, and log out of Red Dead Redemption 2.

But before that, a change of pace. I can’t help but feel that, after the sinus-bursting, turtle-stabbing atrocities of the last two episodes of Rowdy Pardner, you have deserved a little respite at the end of your journey. And so, in this last of our series of three short documentary films, we’re going to focus our hearts not on the business of fists, but on the matters of the mind. So put on your learnin’ chaps, load your sixshooter with thought-slugs, and let’s mosey on down to the education saloon – for it is time to reveal some True Cowboy Facts. If you are lucky, you may even experience the Cowboy looking directly through your screen and speaking them to you.

Dicey Dungeons - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

Lately, whenever I’ve had a spare couple of minutes, it’s become a habit to fire up Dicey Dungeons. It’s an RPG that is played over the course of many, many> runs. I’ve succeeded rarely and failed often, yet somehow I’ve come back for more. Lady Luck has enticed me with her lethal game show of dice rolling.

Ninja Theory are coming out swinging this year. They announced a sequel to their psychological adventure Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice at The Game Awards in December and are chasing it up today with yet another project reveal. Project: Mara appears to be another mental thriller of sorts judging by its brief teaser trailer.
