Eco - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Steve Hogarty)

Ask anyone what Minecraft is missing and they ll all tell you the same thing: an impending sense of climate doom, the pervasive fear of a warming globe that haunts the modern psyche like a crap ghost who keeps showing you scary looking graphs. Eco is an open world co-operative survival game that manages to do just that, incorporating that now-familiar sense of creeping dread which perches in our collective subconscious, and in our quietest moments reminds us that the planet is dying and that one day this hot, wet little space rock will boil over and turn back into mud, dissolving us all in the acidic stew that was once our oceans. So that s nice.

Legends of Runeterra is about to enter its open beta and this collectible card game has its fair share of unique features. Perhaps the most unique is how it implements the signature League of Legends champions. They are the strongest units in every deck and the ones you’ll be mostly forming your deck around. Each one of the six different regions, or colour combinations, that you can build your deck around have four champions. We’ll be listing exactly what every single champion card does.

Steelseries are kicking off 2020 by launching a bunch of new PC peripherals today, including two new Apex keyboards and a new Rival 3 gaming mouse. The Rival 3 and Apex 3 keyboards are both budget-oriented affairs, which will be good news for anyone after a new mouse and keyboard that don’t break the bank, but the Apex 5 kicks things up a notch with its own OLED screen and aluminium chassis, bringing features previously reserved for Steelseries’ premium keyboards down to a (marginally) more affordable price bracket.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind week leading up today’s launch of AMD’s Radeon RX 5600 XT. Dubbed the “ultimate” bestest best graphics card for 1080p gaming, the RX 5600 XT was originally meant to be AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, coming in at an identical price of $279. Nvidia, however, fought back, lowering the price of their next card up, the ray-tracing enabled RTX 2060, to 275 / $299 at the end of last week. Cue another scramble over the weekend where reports were flying around that loads of RX 5600 XT manufacturers were now raising the clock speed of their new graphics cards to make them more competitive with Nvidia’s RTX 2060. Amazing what having a bit of competition can do, eh?

I’m a big fan of fantasy names that sound like someone choking. Ghisteslwchlohm. Zeddicus. Tolo Ogule Thermalamerkanerat. The first chapter of Hearthstone‘s new adventure, Galakrond’s Awakening, is out today, with a story following on from the last couple of solo adventures. As usual, you fight a series of singleplayer matches against bosses with game-shaping powers.

Less usual is how you get to play as either the goodies or the baddies, who are intent on waking up “the progenitor of all dragons”. The first mission for team E.V.I.L is free.

Tension is ramping up in the RPS office, as we approach the release of The Sims 4‘s new Tiny Living Stuff Pack, and thus the editorial Tiny Build-Off between me and Graham. My tactic so far has been to practise a lot at home, so I am familiar with the build controls. Graham’s has been to undermine me at the office, and try to prejudice the rules in his favour.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Nate Crowley)

Just before Christmas, the RPS Treehouse got together for a marathon livestream to raise money for the British Red Cross. There was a Nidhogg tournament, a session of Blindfolded Hitman 2, and even a thrilling bout of competitive MS Paint. My role in all of this, however, was a bit more rustic. I was summoned from my homestead in the Wild West Midlands, armed only with a head full of dreams and a saddlebag full of tinned peaches, to play some good ol Red Dead Redemption 2.

It all started so wholesomely. The Cowboy Game (to call it by its true name) is famed for its obsessively recreated Western landscapes – and for the legions of beautifully modelled critters and varmints which populate them. And since you can t say Nature without also saying Nate , Video Sheriff Matthew thought I d be the perfect guide for a nice, relaxing wildlife tour through this digital wilderness. Alas, no plan survives contact with the Cowboy, and soon enough, the only nature involved was the cry of Nate, ur treating that alligator horribly , from horrified observer Alice Liguori.
