Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

I remember really loving Zak McKracken And The Alien Mindbenders. Richard Cobbett, frequently of this parish, always tells me that I am stupid and wrong and it was a terrible game. So I finally decided to prove him wrong.

Need a good deal to start your week? Well, your deals herald is here to provide, as Mircosoft have brought back their popular Xbox Game Pass Ultimate deal that gets you an extra three months when you buy a three-month subscription, giving you six months for half price. The deal is only available in the UK right now (sorry, US folk), but it’s a great way to bump up your Xbox Game Pass membership on the cheap, as every pass you buy stacks on top of the last one.

Long ago, Duelyst pioneered the magical game combination of deck and board. You’d build up an arsenal of tricksy monsters, then move them around while thinking about abilities and adjacency bonuses and the safety of your ‘you’ character. That was against online opponents, but Spellsword Cards: DungeonTop takes the same idea and runs with it through Slay The Spire-like dungeons. The roguelike deckbuilder came out on early access last week, and I have found it moreish.

Wayward Terran Frontier: Zero Falls - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sin Vega)

Sassy robot sidekicks are awful. They’re almost always the worst part of any game they’re in. I would not oppose an outright, global ban on including them in anything. But open world space sim Wayward Terran Frontier: Zero Falls has one, and it’s great.

Who ever thought there would be a point in our lives when Turk from Scrubs would be in your face to encourage you to buy a Sims game? I never did, but at the time it certainly helped make the case to buy The Sims Medieval.

I was pretty much sold on it already when I realised it was a thing, because who wouldn t want to control their own kingdom? And no, games like Civilization or Crusader Kings never provided what I wanted, before you start in the comments. Can you decorate your throne room? Can you give your leader green hair? Exactly.

Monster Hunter: World - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Natalie Clayton)

Slashing through Monster Hunter: World on PC has always meant dealing with delays. Capcom’s dino-basher launched on Steam over six months after its console debut in 2018, while we similarly had to wait four months before we getting our mitts on the brilliant Iceborne expansion. But Capcom reckon PC players have been pulling up the rear for too long, announcing full platform parity and the return of a “fan-favourite” beastie in a new content roadmap posted this weekend.

Forget dogfighting, first-person shooting and interstellar exploration. For the last few years, Star Citizen has looked increasingly like those bits in the Star Wars prequels where muppets sit on big steel dodgems to discuss trade agreements. 2020 looks to be no different, with a long-standing dispute between Cloud Imperium Games and Crysis/CryEngine-maker Crytek coming to a head once again. This month, Crytek asked for their long-fought lawsuit against Cloud Imperium to be dismissed. They’re not done with Star Citizen: rather, Crytek would prefer to take a fresh stab at the space sim at a later date. Responding on Friday, Cloud Imperium isn’t having any of it.
