Fight your bullying older brother to recover your inheritance (a pair of pants), with lasers. Tiny & Big is a silly game.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Nary a game is safe from a December makeover complete with snow, fir trees, and presents. PUBG‘s 5.3 update has migrated from the test to public servers and although the patch notes make mention of actual quality of life changes, I admit I got distracted by the uncannily cheery change to its lobby. The last 2019 update for Plunkbat brings blood splatter changes, gun favoriting, and this very charming hearth screen. Did you spot the face in the window? I just did and now I won’t sleep tonight.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

The wild west in Red Dead Redemption 2 is great and all but what if it were wilder? What if Arthur Morgan were a firebender? Or had skills more commonly found at a D&D table? What if he just emitted light like some deep sea fish? The RDR2 modding scene is still getting on its feet but creators have done plenty of silly things like swapping Arthur with animals. One modder in particular keeps giving Arthur various superpowers.

On the heels of the Rise of Skywalker trailer reveal inside Fortnite is yet another injection of cosmetic content. The yearly Winterfest has arrived to the island with lots of frosty outfits, emotes, and glider skins. Although you’ll inevitably be encouraged to buy and spend V-Bucks on some of them, Epic are giving away a fortnight’s worth of free presents to every player.

I love me a good wireless gaming headset, but I do hate it when I forget to charge it up and have to sit chained to my desk like a dog on a very short leash because my collection of USB cables are always, always> too short. Sennheiser’s GSP 370, however, should help rectify that problem thanks to its positively huge battery life of up to 100 hours. Yes, you read that correctly. One hundred hours.

That’s four times longer than the current wireless champion in our best gaming headset rankings, the 24-hour 2019 edition of the Steelseries Arctis 7, and over five times longer than Sennheiser’s considerably more expensive GSP 670 and the cheaper Corsair HS70. That’s pretty impressive as battery lives go, but it does come at a cost. Currently priced at 169 / $200, can the GSP 370’s excellent battery life justify its higher price over the 145 / $150 Arctis 7 and 63 / $99 Corsair HS70? Here’s wot I think.

Planet Zoo - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Planet Zoo already got Rock Paper Shotgun’s “bestest best” stamp when it released in November. If possible, it is now even bestier than before with its first DLC which adds arctic animals to your zoo’s list of potential inhabitants. There are two new scenarios, new buildings, foliage, and most importantly polar bears.

2019 has been an exciting year in the world of best graphics cards. Nvidia now have a whopping 12 GPUs to choose from in their GTX 16-series and RTX 20-series roster (which is frankly too many if you ask me, but what can you do), while AMD finally launched their new 7nm Navi cards. Together, they added loads of new contenders to our best graphics card list for 2019, and below I’ve picked out all my top recommendations for what you should be buying to get smooth, 60fps gaming performance at 1080p, 1440p and 4K. Whatever your budget, we’ve got a best graphics card recommendation for you.

Arma 3 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Craig Pearson)

Back when I reviewed Arma 3 s campaign, I whined like a hungry cat about how Bohemia never quite used the world to its fullest potential. I craved a mission that left me on my own to explore and adapt. Well, a mere five years on they’ve added something very interesting to the Steam Workshop. Arma 3 Apex: Old Man is an experimental, open-world, single-player scenario where you re given a goal and a few hints, and then told to have at it. If you have Arma 3 Apex, it’s free. I think I ve found my Christmas present.

A Plague Tale: Innocence - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alex Wiltshire)

Oh, the rats. The rats and the rats. If you don t like rats, it s best you don t read on, because in A Plague Tale: Innocence there are thousands of them. They re the stars of its grim medieval show, swarming around you, chittering and lunging and responding to your every movement.

And they presented their creators at developer Asobo Studio all kinds of problems to make. Their every little detail is the result of lots of experimentation and many wrong turns as their programmers and designers laboured to both make them feel horribly alive, while also building a game around them. After all, no one had tried before to make a game about surviving throngs of vicious rodents during the Black Death. Merry Christmas, Mechanic readers!
