Winter may be here to stay for a bit but there’s some stray sunshine to be found in Wattam, the bright little puzzle game that will feel immediately familiar to anyone who played Katamari Damacy years ago on the PS2. Or, heck, last year’s re-release on the PC. Wattam has a similar fascination with things that would normally be inanimate objects like toilets, trees, and emoji-like piles of poo. You’ll use each one and their unique abilities to solve puzzles for your colorful friends.
What s black and white and red all over? My attempt to get that old joke past Graham’s editing pen. What prompted my amazing new take on that joke is the return of Batman – The Telltale Series. New owners LCG Entertainment are releasing it as Batman Telltale: Shadows Edition.
LCG bought up as much of Telltale’s back catalogue as they could after the adventure developer went defunct, and have been looking to re-release all the games. In a nod to the increasingly grim take on Adam West s wonderful legacy, they ve fiddled with the saturation slider and given it a shadowy new look.
Having slipped the surly bonds of Kerbin, Kerbal Space Program s former lead developer Felipe Falanghe has been quietly working on a new-but-similar flying craft creator, Balsa Model Flight Simulator. It shares some of Kerbal s DNA, letting the player build and fly model aircraft, but adds multiplayer and combat to the formula.
Writing guides about a game usually means playing a rather disgusting number of hours of said game every day, until the sight of it compels you to dry-heave over a keyboard whose WASD keys have long since worn away. I remember, for example, a point where I realised that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had been out for 100 hours, and I’d spent 60 of those hours playing it. That was taking it a bit far even for me.
I was fully expecting the dry-heaves to begin at any moment. But they never came. I continued to slide down the slides, to climb up the climbs, to beat up the local fauna with the power of ancient religion on my side. And somehow, despite all the bugs and flaws the game was throwing at me, I remained steadfast in my enjoyment of it. How did I do it? Well, I’d like to explore that with you awhile, if that’s alright.
I want to like Risk Of Rain 2 . The 3D sequel to Chancy Precipitation 1 has snazzy music and a weird, varied menagerie of monsters to shoot at. A few more joined the fray in yesterday’s Hidden Realms update, along with a playable lizard-dog, dedicated servers, nine new items, and more varied level layouts. It’s a meaty and welcome update, though I just played a game and still think getting insta-swatted after 40 minutes of pootling around is an unforgivable pacing problem.
Though I feel like part of the vast PR zerg in sharing that release date map, I do like that Blizzard took the time to craft it. I now know that should I find myself in LA on Jan 28, 2020, I ll be able to play remade RTS Warcraft III: Reforged at 3PM. I’ll more likely be in the UK, so it will be 11PM that very same day. I’ll be in my jammies.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 was a desperately silly game. In fact, looking back at it now, with the benefit of twenty years hindsight, one might go so far as to call it an embarrassingly puerile game, what with its FMV cutscenes that always felt one slip of a PVC soviet uniform away from being cheap porn, and its one-note humour based solely on the concept of Comedy Russians . Although that linked video does nearly> redeem the whole thing.
Still, whatever else it was, it was a great real-time strategy game, from the apex of that genre s golden age, and its expansion pack, Yuri s Revenge, was a prime example of how an add-on should work. Alongside the two established forces of the American Blue Team and the Comedy Russians, YR added a third faction: Yuri, the disgruntled ex-head of the Soviets secret psychic army, and his Many Angry Lads. Yuri had been binned from his old job, you see, and was now out for revenge. Yuri’s Revenge.
With snow a-falling, sleigh bells a-jingling, and cookies a-baking, ’tis the season to remember the man who sacrificed his life so humanity might be saved: Saint-14. The legendary Titan of Destiny 2 died after centuries trapped fighting robots who ultimately built a machine to murder specifically him and only him, but today we can save him. As the Season Of Dawn rolls on, from today we can use some ‘science’ to travel through time and let Saint-14 live again. Destiny 2’s Christmas event, The Dawning, started today too but I’m here to celebrate my pal coming home for Christmas. Well, due to be coming home. Pending a bug fix.
The next story DLC for Total War: Three Kingdoms will be a wee bit of a prequel, bringing new starts a scant eight years before the main campaign kicks off. Creative Assembly today announced Mandate Of Heaven for a January 16th launch, bringing six new factions and dozens of new units. Starting in the year 182 just before the Yellow Turban rebellion, it’ll tell more of the Han Empire’s struggle with that.
