Destiny has always had a confusing, convoluted story - and so its timeline of events has ever been a vague collection of pieced-together entries by fans doing the best they can with snippets of lore scattered across the game's various gubbins.
But recent developments have caused Destiny lore nerds to rewrite the past - with one group of fans putting together a useful - and incredibly detailed - timeline of events that offers a more accurate summary of Bungie's expansive universe.
THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD.

Tonight's Fortnite live event was a mash-up of marketing and spectacle, as the Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighters and John Williams' classic themes mixed with a holographic Geoff Keighley, a comedy Stormtrooper and a dancing JJ Abrams.
That was if you could log in, of course. Once again, the draw of Fortnite's live events stretched the game's server capacity, as well as the ability to log on to the Epic's PC launcher. For several hours, Epic warned of sign-in issues, even long after event finished. In recompense, all Fortnite owners will be gifted the event's exclusive TIE Whisperer glider.
The event itself began with a starship battle in the skies over Fortnite's island, as players watched the Falcon caught up in a dogfight with a series of TIE Fighters - each of which was ultimately sent crashing to the ground in flames. It was a brilliant introduction - until the Falcon landed, and the event transitioned into a talk show sketch.

THQ Nordic is mulling over whether or not it should remake the fantasy RPG Gothic and to help it decide, it's released a free playable teaser to give you a taster.
That said, it's not available for just anyone. The demo's only downloadable for those who already have a Gothic game or any other title from developer Piranha Bytes in their Steam libraries, even though PB isn't involved in the remake.
"This is not a full game. Its [sic] a playable teaser version to a potential approach for a new Gothic game. Nothing is set in stone", THQ Nordic says in the game description on Steam (thanks, Engadget). "So your feedback is essential to turn Gothic into a modern game.

Daybreak Games has confirmed it's switching off PlanetSide Arena's servers at 5pm PT on 10th January, 2020 (that's 1am on the 11th January UK time), just three months after it launched in early access.
As spotted by Blue via our pals at VG24/7, executive producer Andy Sites said it was a "difficult decision" but while the team had "set out with an ambitious vision for a game that combined the massive-scale combat and camaraderie of PlanetSide through a diverse collection of new game modes", it became clear in early access that population levels "make it impossible to sustain the gameplay experience we envisioned".
The team says it is "actively working with Steam" to ensure that all players who made purchases during its early access release will automatically receive a full refund to their steam wallets.

Batman: The Telltale Series is back only this time, it's with a noir twist.
Athlon Games published - and then rapidly unpublished - a press release that announced The Telltale Batman Shadows Edition - Batman: The Telltale Series, a new version of the narrative-driven game with a graphical update and a "sinister new look" "noir-style" makeover.
"Batman: The Telltale Series cast players into the fractured psyche of Bruce Wayne in a dark and violent original story and challenges players with discovering the powerful and far-reaching consequences of choice as the Dark Knight," the press release says (thanks, Gematsu). "As Batman, players will encounter classic allies and adversaries, and will learn the true meaning of what it means to be the man behind the cowl as Bruce Wayne."

There's a story-based DLC heading to The Outer Worlds in 2020.
Obsidian's social media manager Shyla made the announcement in a post on the official forums (thanks, GamesRadar+) as they thanked players for nominating the game for numerous accolades at last week's The Game Awards.
Sadly, there are no further details about what we can expect just yet - nor when, precisely, the additional content will drop - but if you've been enjoying your time in Halcyon, at least you know DLC will "be expanding the story" next year.

A lot of situations in games seem chaotic at first - the disorder of large-scale battles, wave upon wave of enemies raining down onto you until their number and actions become indiscernible, or the rapid alteration between dodging projectile fire and melee attacks in a run and gun game. But while combat can be chaotic, you win by creating order, finally achieving flow by finding patterns and thus reaching the magical point where a game's difficulty and your skill level meet.
Flow through order, or rather neatness however, is less about muscle memory and skill level, and more about those times you can't help but want everything to be organised. City builders are likely the neatest games by design, encouraging you to build your residential area here and the cultural hotspots nearby, a safe distance from the health hazards of an industrial area but not too far to make it difficult for people to get to work. In Frostpunk, everything you build forms a ring around the generator, the pulsating heart of your city. Even home design in Animal Crossing spinoffs keeps you from veering off into chaos by making you follow someone else's suggestions.
I've seen pictures of giant Stardew Valley farms, fruit trees in elegant rows and vegetables forming large acres. Minecraft buildings often feature whole sheds full of tools and raw materials, neatly sorted. It makes sense to be orderly in these games, as it does in most others, but I've never been able to do it myself.

WolfEye Studios, a developer founded by some of the minds behind Prey and Dishonored, has unveiled Weird West, a new cowboy-themed action-RPG coming to PC.
Weird West - which will be published by Devolver Digital - unfolds in a dark fantasy version of the Wild West, and sets players on a journey "through the origin stories of a group of atypical heroes, written into legend by the decisions you make in an unforgiving land".
"Each journey is unique and tailored to the actions taken," explains WolfEye, "a series of high stakes stories where everything counts and the world reacts to the choices you make". You'll apparently have the option to form a posse to tackle its challenges or venture forth alone.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps, developer Moon Studios' gorgeous follow-up to the equally beautiful Ori and the Blind Forest, will no longer meet its originally announced 11th February release date, and is now due to arrive a month later on 11th March.
Moon Studios' sequel once again sees players taking control of guardian spirit Ori for another bout of Metroidvania-style platforming. This time, however, the adventure will lead to the world beyond the sprawling forest of the first game, as Ori's true destiny is revealed.
While Ori's core action remains the same, early peeks at the game have revealed a number of changes to the underlying formula. Autosaves are now in, for instance, replacing the first game's limited manual checkpoint system, and skill upgrade trees have been switched for a more flexible slot-based shard system, with each shard offering a unique ability that players can equip to customise their character builds.

The Last Autumn, developer 11 Bit Studios' second bit of paid DLC for its superb post-apocalyptic city builder Frostpunk, will be out on PC in January - and there's a brand-new trailer to get you in the pre-apocalyptic mood.
Previously described as a "prequel expansion", The Last Autumn introduces a brand-new scenario that unfolds in an area known as Site 113, so far untouched by snow. Here, players must lead a group of engineers in an attempt to construct a generator before the freezing cataclysm seen in the main campaign takes hold.
According to 11 Bit Studios, The Last Autumn will introduce new lore and narrative elements, a new (non-snowy) environment and new buildings, new Books of Laws, unique technologies, plus "game-changing mechanics and unique architecture". You can get an early taste of that in the expansion's reveal trailer below.
