Developer Bloober Team's wonderfully surreal first-person horror game Layers of Fear has been given the VR treatment and is now available on Steam and the Oculus Store.
Layers of Fear, which originally released in 2016, tells the tale of a tortured painter as he attempts to complete his masterpiece - a creative process that sees him drawn deeper and deeper into a hallucinatory fever, causing his strange, gothic home to warp impossibly as troubling memories begin to resurface.
It's an experience that received some fairly mixed reviews at launch, but one that's still adored by many horror fans. It's undoubtedly hokey, piling on the hoary old genre cliches - from lank-haired lady ghosts to haunted dolls - and it unquestionably leans a little too heavily on YouTube-baiting jump scares at times. However, it serves up a wonderful slice of gothic melodrama, and there's a surprising amount of intelligence and emotional heft beneath the surface.

Destiny fans can find an update on a familiar former villain hidden away within Destiny 2's new Season of Dawn update.
The fresh lore has been datamined from an exotic ship, the Amnestia-S2, which is due to go on sale via Destiny's premium currency Eververse store. Or or you can just read about it below.
(Oh, and if I've you've not played Destiny 2's 2018 expansion Forsaken yet for some reason, then beware spoilers for that.)

The developer of the upcoming Command & Conquer remaster re-hired the voice actor behind the game's announcer to re-record her lines after the original audio tapes were lost.
Developer Petroglyph, which was founded by ex-Westwood staff after EA shut the studio down back in 2003, brought Kia Huntzinger in to re-record her dialogue for announcer EVA.
Any Command & Conquer fan will be familiar with EVA's A.I. dialogue, which notified you when units were lost, the enemy was attacking and, of course, when silos were needed. Here's a reminder of Kia Huntzinger's work for the original real-time strategy classic:

UPDATE 12/12/19: Here's our first look at Capcom's sneaky Resident Evil 3 Easter egg, due to be added very soon to Resident Evil 2.
This relates, of course, to the Resi 2 Steam achievement which was unhidden yesterday. It unlocks when you find a letter from Resi 3 protagonist Jill Valentine.
Now, the game's Xbox One version has added the achievement as well (thanks, Xbox Achievements) - and with it, a screenshot of the scene it looks like you'll get when you pick up Jill's note. Resi fans will recognise Jill and Robert Kendo having a little chat:

Hello, and welcome to our new series which picks out interesting things that we'd love someone to make a game about.
This isn't a chance for us to pretend we're game designers, more an opportunity to celebrate the range of subjects games can tackle and the sorts of things that seem filled with glorious gamey promise.
Check out our 'Someone should make a game about' archive for all our pieces so far.

Ever wondered what would happen if you combined an adorable bird, a tiny bird-sized skateboard, and the much-loved thrills of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater? Well, you'd get Skatebird - a game of feathery kick-flips and ornithological ollies that's coming to Xbox One, PC, and now Switch some time next year.
In Skatebird, players take on the role of a lonely little bird whose human friend is, thanks to their rubbish job, never home to play. "You're gonna fix all that with the power of being a chill little skateboarding bird," explains developer Glass Bottom Games.
Fixing that involves skating your very best skate around your homemade skatepark to attract a bird following, unlock new bird-sized courses, and somehow fix your human friend's life.

Team 17's prison break sandbox sim The Escapists is getting a desert-island-themed spin-off next year. It's called the Survivalists and it's coming to Switch, Xbox One, PC, and PS4.
The Survivalists (which is apparently set in the same universe as The Escapists) unfolds across a procedurally generated wilderness consisting of various biomes. Survival, as you might well imagine, is the order of the day and up to four players can work together - either locally or online - to craft and build their way to success.
According to Team 17, there's a day and night cycle to contend with, animals to hunt (or flee from) and locals who might not be all that friendly. The bulk of the action appears to take the form of resource gathering, which can then be used to craft helpful items - ranging from primitive tools to fruit smoothies - and to build useful structures.

Phoenix Labs' free-to-play monster-hunter-style action-RPG Dauntless is making its way to Switch today, following its full release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 earlier this year.
Dauntless, which initially launched in closed alpha all the way back in 2017, takes the co-operative monster slaying core of Capcom's masterful Monster Hunter series and fluffs it into a breezier, more accessible experience, with swifter fights, simpler combat, and fewer creatures.
Despite its limitations, it's still a surprisingly entertaining affair. Eurogamer's Christian Donlan was positively delighted by his experiences tracking down a majestic, if less-than-friendly giant owl when Dauntless finally got its full release back in May.

Mild spoilers for Fallen Order ahead.
I've recently been poking my head into a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order modding Discord - and strangely, one of the main targets for modders has been something rather small: the removal of a lightsaber part. Those who've completed a fair chunk of Fallen Order's story, however, will know this small switch - added after a story event - becomes a serious pain when you want to create a beautifully balanced double bladed lightsaber. Cere's switch has a nice narrative reason for being there, but it's not the prettiest to look at, and there's been no way to hide it.
Thankfully, a new patch will save the modders some work - as Respawn is adding the ability to ditch the switch.
