DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS™ 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Dragon Quest Builders 2 has a free “jumbo demo” that you can play right now before it launches on PC next week. The first Minecraft-y spinoff from the JRPG series Dragon Quest never made it off consoles so it’s nice that we get a small taste of the sequel to see what it’s about.

Nordic action-RPG Rune 2 released on November 12th. The next day, its developers Human Head Studios announced their closure and that all of its development team were offered new positions at a new studio with Bethesda. Apparently they failed to mention this crucial detail to Rune 2’s publisher. Now Ragnarok Game are suing Human Head to regain control of the game’s source code and assets.

Big changes are coming to car football today. Rocket League has replaced its lock and key lootbox system with an item shop and blueprints for items. The new system is still random, but takes away the risk that you’ll spend any actual money on an item you don’t want.

When John left RPS, I wrote in his goodbye post that it was his reviews that I’d miss most. It’s a good thing for me personally, then, that John has just launched a new website. Buried Treasure is a blog on which John reviews “undiscovered indie gaming gems”, and there’s a Patreon where you can help it carry on.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Red Dead Redemption 2 is allegedly an action game about a gun-slingin’ guy named Arthur Morgan but to many of us it’s become an Old West simulator where we can live the simple life hunting game and looking at trees unbothered by society. Exploration is king in RDR2 but the one place we can’t explore is a place we took for granted in the previous game: Mexico.

When a game s cutscene begins and the dialogue starts spooling, I can t help it. My phone comes out and I m scrolling. From being active I ve suddenly become passive, and rather than stay engaged, my brain impulsively turns to Twitter, Reddit, anything>, to feed its pathetic desire for reward through light interaction.

But I don t during Katana Zero s cutscenes. When this action game halts its razor-fine combat to tell you its story, I sit forward. That s down to its interrupt system, which lets me choose whether I want to hear NPCs out, or whether I want to tell them to shut up. I honestly hope more games adopt the interrupt system, if nothing else because it just feels like a much better way to tell stories, developer Justin Stander tells me. It s less reading and more doing. (more…)

Raids have arrived to Ghost Recon Breakpoint and it’s evident that they’re proving to be a bit of a challenge to those jumping in for the first time. These are four-player missions where cooperation is key to overcoming the challenges ahead. The first raid is called “Project Titan” and will challenge players to fight big drones, so they’ll need to have the best gear they can get. We’re in the process of compiling information on how to defeat the four raid bosses, but for now, here’s how to access the raid mode.
