I've been away for a bit as I haven't had much time to work on Neighborhood, but I have been plugging away here and there. I have a big update with a great deal of changes and fixes so let's jump right into it!
New character - Sofie Sofie is a hybrid support character who excels at medium to long range. She requires effective spacing with her attacks as maximum damage can only be achieved at maximum range. She also has a few good options for burst healing as well as great offensive options. Of course, if you have no need for healing, you can simply ignore those skills and go full offense. Her damage output is below average and her attack speed can be slow, but she more than makes up for it with her extreme range.
New default control layout After a great deal of testing and feedback, the default control layout is changing.
Dialogue fixes All players are now locked during any NPC interaction. This should help prevent team mates from wandering off. it should also keep a few issues revolving this from popping up as often.
AI fixes AI behavior has been adjusted to be more consistent. Enemies no longer get stuck in certain states and enemies are now capable of evading and defending.
Audio fixes Audio pitch and volume no longer rapidly changes under rare circumstances. Also a gap in audio zones have been fixed.
Camera shake Certain moves now have a camera shaking effect added to them.
Parry overhaul The parry was a little too lenient. It has been altered to require a tighter timing, but can be affected by certain equipment items.
General notes A lot has gone into making things run smoother. A great deal of optimization has gone into making characters take up less resources which should lower the minimum requirements quite a bit. There should also be less frames dropped in very rare heavy situations.
Anyways that does it for this update. More to come soon!
We just want to let you know that we are working hard on our next game release.
The bad news is - it's not a VR game. The good news is - we believe that it's going to be a hell of a fun game.
As game developers, our core mission is to create great fun games. Although we love VR, we don’t want to limit ourselves to just one platform. Our upcoming game is a PC roguelike/lite RPG that combines the best elements of deckbuilding, tactical combat and strategic decision-making.
It’s called Gordian Quest and slated to launch on Steam’s Early Access between December 2019 to Early 2020.
----------------
What Kind of Game is Gordian Quest?
The game is best described as an old school RPG presented in a modern way. We are huge fans of old cult classics like Wizardry, Ultima, Dungeons and Dragons and Might and Magic. There is something charming about the old-school way of forming your team of heroes to go on adventures, accepting quests from NPCs, leading your heroes to engage in battles, making them stronger, mastering skills, forging new weapons and discovering powerful relics.
In Gordian Quest, we have preserved all these elements – made better and fronted by more modern concepts such as deckbuilding, turn-based tactical combat, a skill-grid system, equipment crafting, procedural maps and uncovering deeper skills brought about by forging bonds among your heroes.
----------------
We Want to Build The Game With You
Instead of dropping a finished game at your feet and expecting you to take it or leave it, we believe in building our games organically with you. By that, we mean we want to come up with the master concept and early iterations of the game, and we also want you to be a part of our decision making process as we introduce more content and features to the game. After all, we are building a game for you, so we think you should be involved. Early Access will allow us to achieve this collaborative effort.
----------------
Do Check Gordian Quest Out
We sincerely hope that you will check it out and wishlist it if you like what you see.
Fixed a hard crash when getting a card with Deck Builder
Fixed a crash when entering a custom mode name
Fixed a crash with spear trap gauntlet
Fixed a crash on saving settings
Reverted to GM runtime 2.2.2.326 in hopes of it helping something (probably won't)
So, you might be wondering "What's up? How are things that worked before broken all of sudden?". Well, turns out that the game is very allergic to the current versions of GameMaker. And then version that I used for r57 just doesn't want to compile the game. Is it DRM? Is my computer cursed? There's no way to tell, it's just "Permission Error: Unable to obtain permission to execute". Love working on videogames, no day is the same.
In this update I’ve added the first version of the flight model. Step towards the glowing light close to the airplane if you want to try it out. Some notes:
This is the base flight model. You’ll be able to fly around a bit and get used to the limited flight controls You’ll be able to see how a flight map might look, keep in mind this is just a test map You’ll notice some bugs ;) For example, if you try really hard you’ll be able to fly backwards..again. This is a test for the first steps in flight. The goal is to make a flying model that is fun during certain levels. I’m not going for absolute realism here. Obviously I will be working on the model to make sure that weird stuff won’t happen.
To control the airplane right now all you have to do is use your right controller. The flightstick will always move with this controller. Also notice that trigger button can be used to shoot.
To realign the cockpit use the button indicated on your controller (You’ll see it once you’re there) To exit the level, please look up.
Lastly the best way to play the level is seated. IF you sit down during play make sure to realign the cockpit.
Further improvements - Unity update - Fixed small misbehaviours on several guns - Cleanup in several levels - Readded monster sounds
