For some reason, there seems to be a lot of attention surrounding night vision goggles in Ghost Recon Breakpoint. I mean I guess it’s understandable if you want to look the part of a spec ops soldier, but they don’t do anything other than make you stand out a little more than normal. But who are we to judge.

If you’re specialising in sniping in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, you’ll likely want to have an attachment that increases your range and stability. So what if the Ghost Recon Breakpoint bipod also reduces your time to aim, it’s still a very good attachment that deserves its own special feature.

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

While the fascinating surreal detective RPG, Disco Elysium should come to a tidy conclusion when it launches this month, developer ZA/UM say that should they get the possibility to make a sequel… well, they have some ideas. Chief among these is the option for a pregnant woman as a second protagonist, which sounds potentially wild in a wordy RPG where your inner thoughts and physical body claim a presence far greater than numbers on a character sheet. Our Alice Bee chatted with with ZA/UM about that and more when she recently visited them, and has oh so much to tell us about that soon. For now, have a snippet of sequel chat.

What’s worse than being stuck on an alien planet? Being stuck on an alien planet under capitalism.

That’s your plight in Alien Squatter, a new survival RPG by A. Hagen and Shea Kennedy. You’re an alien trying to make it on the streets of Earth. It’s out now and I like it.

If there s anything that can bring a dose of certainty to a dark night in the Polish countryside, it s that voice. Flat left over jump, extra extra long keep middle 170, it says as we speed by trees and hedgerows and fields and barns. I can t see the world outside the glare of my headlights, but that voice knows everything. Into six right, opens over crest, it says. Gentle and precise, it s entirely unflustered as we catch air at 140 km/h above a rutted Polish farm track, my heart ricocheting around my upper trachea.

Here s to Phil Mills. He s my Dirt Rally 2.0 co-driver, my companion through victory and defeat, my rock during a hundred terrible crashes, and my videogame dad, if he ll have me. (more…)

Oh god, Operation Metro is back. Battlefield V‘s newest map, Operation Underground hits the WW2 shooter today, bringing back Battlefield 3’s most infamous below-ground bloodbath. Grim-faced veterans will shudder at memories of Paris stalemates. A Sisyphean death march for on the offence, a point-and-click machine gun adventure for defenders. Fortunately, Dice have invested in public infrastructure this time around, and promise a more seamless trip on your commute to carnage.

If you were thinking about upgrading your PC’s storage banks any time soon, then you may want to consider getting a new Samsung SSD. Aside from the fact that they’re some of the best gaming SSDs around, UK buyers can now get a free copy of Ghost Recon Breakpoint with it until November 13th 2019 when you buy selected models. Ironic, really, considering you spend so much of the game smashing up storage devices and server farms, but hey, a deal’s a deal.

I know statements like this are tantamount to heresy and that there can be no escape from Horace’s ursidaen omniscience, but on this occasion I’m going to throw myself on His mercy. Consoles can be quite good. I like having a box by my telly that doesn’t force me to solve an arcane tech problem every few months. More saliently, I know others who feel the same, and in the future it’s much less likely that I’ll have to pay absurd PlayStation prices if I want to play with them. PS4’s cross-play support has reportedly emerged from its beta phase, meaning any developer can include cross-play without special permission from Sony. I am looking forward to clicking on chumps who are stuck with crummy analogue sticks.

WARSAW RISING: City of Heroes - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sin Vega)

The Warsaw Uprising isn’t the easiest of settings for a game. The obvious thing is to wargame it – make it a detached military sim that doesn’t risk being too heavy or stressful. Warsaw is going for something a bit more close range, though.

It’s a turn-based tactical shooter that’s as much RPG as strategy game, about managing morale and resources as well as getting the job done and keeping your people alive. A tall order, and Warsaw does it with panache. It’s out now.
