VR is still a niche. The cost, the hardware, the distinct lack of a killer app (though Google Earth is amazing in VR). There are still a lot of hurdles, though one of those might have just fallen. Oculus just announced a new method of tracking that could make controllers redundant. The Oculus Quest s cameras can be used to track the user’s hands and fingers, without any additional hardware. Players can hopefully use their hands in VR as they would in real-life.
You might not be surprised to learn that Wilmot s Warehouse, the charming object-categorisation game we ve been banging on about this month, was inspired by (wait for it) working in a warehouse. Co-creator Richard Hogg worked in warehouses for Asda and Boots in his teens, before moving on to work for a film stills library after graduating. I loved that job, he recalls, wistfully. In fact, if it hadn t been for a bunch of bastards from [name of professional services firm redacted] coming in and deciding I was surplus to requirements, there s good odds I d still be there.
While playing through this second instalment of Simento Mori, an exploration into the limits and meaning of death in The Sims, I nearly swallowed a fly. I had casually taken a sip of my drink, only to feel the sensation of some foreign object (decidedly solid) making contact with the inside of my teeth. I had to extract its carcass from my mouth with my thumb and forefinger. I’m not sure I will ever be able to drink ros again. This comical brush with death, drowning in pink wine — arguably, the most middle-class beverage to drown in — perfectly exemplifies how ludicrous the whole thing is. Welcome to Simento Mori.
Simento Mori is my experiment to let a neighbourhood waste away into nothingness. Here, we continue into part two. For those who want a refresher, check out part one here. Oh, and there’s spontaneous combustion in this one.
Those dang Dwarves, they’ve only gone and dug too deep again. Ghost Ship Games’ intergalactic halflings have been steadily mining out treasure and blasting aliens for a solid year and a half now, but it looks like the endgame is upon them. Deep Rock Galactic has expanded once again, bringing new kit, new combs, and a tough new game mode for hardened miners. What do you do when you’ve hollowed out all there is to dig? Well, I suppose you can always make a Deep Dive into parts unknown.
I’m not sure how I feel about the way Flotsam makes our impending ecological disaster look so inviting. It’s a floating city builder where you construct everything out of scavenged ocean junk, while making sure your seaborne survivors don’t run out of water that won’t kill them. I’ve leapt straight to chatting about death and disaster, though, when Flotsam bills its apocalypse as “feel-good”. This is why I don’t get invited to more parties.
It’s out now on early access, have a gander.
We re at a glorious place in history where anything can be a simulation. Table Manners is a game where you re sat across from a potential paramour on a mission to woo them with your incredible etiquette. The problem: everything is hooked into wonky physics, and your expensive bottle of bubbly might be needed to put out a fire or three. Life is a terrifying thing when you’re a disembodied hand looking for love.

With so many collectibles in the worlds of Borderlands 3, it can get a little daunting to try and find all of them. Some of the most elusive are the Typhon Logs and Drop Pods, Eridian Writings, and the Echo Logs that are littered throughout the game in most of the regions. We have found all of them and poped them on maps.
Autonauts is a sweet game about planetary colonisation. You’ll land on uninhabited worlds and begin to inhabit them by building what you need. But you don’t do it all by hand. The goal is to automate the process, creating and programming worker bots to process the raw materials into a self-sustaining world. As always, the route to colonisation starts with a pie recipe, and it’s one that requires more than just flour and jam.
