We know about Poland's biggest games but the tide there is rising for everyone, and the indie scene has been gathering steam for a while. Devolver's Carrion is a case in point: I saw this last year at a conference in Poland and now loads of people are talking about it after seeing it at E3. It looks great. With that in mind, I returned to Polish conference Digital Dragons this year, determined to share with you the indie games I saw there.
Someday You'll Return is a game about a father searching the woods for his missing, grown-up, daughter, but it doesn't take long to realise something is amiss. The woods are darker than they seemed and there's something wrong about the relationship between father and daughter - there's something wrong about the man.
What unravels is an intriguing psychological horror, but what really excites me is where the game comes from. It's the epitome of indie: the work of two people from the Czech Republic, working away for four years - time and space that has allowed elaborate systems to be implemented, which would get the axe, for the sake of development brevity and maybe sanity, elsewhere.
This year's second big Hearthstone expansion is the Egyptian-themed Saviours of Uldum, and it will see the return of the fan-favourite League of Explorers - from Hearthstone's previous expansion League of Explorers.
Due to launch on 6th August, the 135-card set will also feature a new keyword, Reborn. This will return an enemy to life the first time they're destroyed, albeit with just one Health point.
A set of all-powerful new spell cards named Plagues will also feature, such as the Priest class' nine mana cost Plague of Death, which Silences then destroys all minions. RIP Deathrattles.
Japanese police are using Street Fighter to recruit cops.
Characters from Capcom's famous fighting game franchise will be used for the first time as mascots in the Osaka Prefectural Police's recruitment advertising for cyber-crime investigators.
It turns out Capcom has been working with Osaka Prefectural Police and other nearby police forces on various crime prevention awareness campaigns since 2013. But this year, Capcom received a request from the Osaka Prefectural Police to use Street Fighter characters for the first time.
The 'Red Hot Sale' continues to burn at Fanatical and this week has introduced a few new titles to spice up the mix of digital gaming deals.
Right away, you can get an absolute scorcher of a deal with Wargroove for just 9.59/$11.99 for the next 48 hours.
Seen as a spiritual successor to the likes of Advance Wars, the strategy RPG from Chucklefish was generously and carefully created according to Donlan, but he's still saving his love for the real thing. Even if Wargroove allows you to play as a canine commander called Caesar!
Fortnite is already nearing the end of its ninth season - and the game's ongoing storyline is starting to build, once again, to another big live event.
Season nine has seen the game's Polar Peak region levelled by the escape of an enormous-eyed creature (freed from ice cracked by the volcano eruption during last season's finale, if you're not keeping up).
Fans have seen the creature's eye peeking out through the ice, and then the devastation it left after it stomped across the map - and then back onto it, to damage the Vault's cable. It was last spotted underwater, swimming around the edge of the map with some of Polar Peak still on its back.
UPDATE 2.30PM: Speaking to Eurogamer, Alan Wake developer Remedy has teased the possibility of a multiplatform release for its previously Microsoft-owned hero.
"The only thing we want to clarify, now that Remedy owns the publishing rights, is that we could bring Alan Wake to different platforms if we so choose," a Remedy spokesperson told me this afternoon.
"We have nothing to announce for now. We are fully focused on Control releasing on 27th August."
Summer Games Done Quick has raised a record-breaking $3m for its chosen charity, Doctors Without Borders.
That total is over $500k higher than GDQ's previous record of $2.4m for Prevent Cancer Foundation, set earlier this year.
This year's Summer Games Done Quick ran from 23rd-30th June in Minneapolis, with more than 180 speed-runs completed. Alongside your usual Marios and Zeldas were runs of this year's Resident Evil 2 remake, Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy and the brilliant Tetris Effect.
Super Mario Maker 2 sold almost double the physical copies of its predecessor during its first week on sale.
Fair enough, that was for Wii U. But still, Nintendo's Mario creation station sequel shot straight to the top of the UK chart.
Christian Donlan wrote Eurogamer's Super Mario Maker 2 review. "Whether you're building or not, this is a joy," he said, naming it "a quirky and powerful construction toy that's fun to play with even if you aren't trying to make anything".
Early access to Final Fantasy XIV's latest expansion, Shadowbringers, went live earlier this week, but a significant DDoS attack on North American servers caused "extended waiting times" for players trying to get an early peek at the new content.
The attack caused a number of access issues, including disconnections from the North America data center Worlds, difficulty logging in, and difficulty accessing, sending, and receiving data from NA data centers.
"During the time below, we experienced network technical difficulties caused by DDoS attacks," an update on the official Final Fantasy XIV website said (thanks, PC Gamer). "Players may have experienced the listed issues as a result, but we are happy to inform that the game can now be played as normal."
Not to be outdone by Mario Royale - wait, I mean Infringio Royale - another unlikely gaming icon has jumped onto the battle royale bandwagon: Flappy Bird.
No, Flappy hasn't suddenly strapped on a bullet-proof vest and picked up a Spitfire - Flappy Royale is the original Flappy Bird game, only instead of desperately trying to beat your own BP, instead you're pitting yourself against 99 other players. As you might expect, the bird that survives the longest wins the game.
Designed by programmer Orta Therox and Em Lazer Walker (thanks, PCGN), Flappy Royale also boasts additional customisation choices, such as hats and outfits.
