When it comes to Minecraft seeds, I don’t know about you, but I always find it such a missed opportunity to just let the game come up with its own random string of numbers. Why not be adventurous, and seed your world with something like “WeAreTheKnightsWhoSayNi”, or “falsified carrot”, or something? If you’re of a similar mind on this, you shouldn’t be disappointed by the amount of fun I had creating this Minecraft seeds guide.

For Overwatch players who wish to revisit former glories or learn from past mistakes, Blizzard are finally adding the much-requested feature of replays. As you’d expect from the feature that’s been common in multiplayer shooters for oh so many years, it will let players view past matches from different perspectives at different speeds and all that. Me, I’m hoping I’ll get to finally take some decent screenshots to use in RPS articles because all mine are rubbish. Replays are now live on the test servers, and will launch in the regular main version later.

Many suggest that E3 is like Christmas for nerds and there’s no faulting that logic. It’s when big game announcements generally happen, whether that’s brand new PC games being revealed or release dates for those first shown last year. It’s also when Devolver Digital paint the town red with gallons of fake blood. With that in mind, we’ve gathered together all the dates and times for all the E3 2019 livestreams and conferences.

Layers of Fear 2 (2019) - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Khee Hoon Chan)

There s something about mannequins that makes them such prime fodder for horror games. The dead-eyed stare sans pupils, the unnaturally rigid poses and angular elbows, and the perverse mimicry of human behaviour hurls them right into the trough of the uncanny valley. Like many horror staples, these are strategically placed to unnerve players and elicit a quick scare, with a plethora of games placing them in almost predictable locations: at the end of a corridor, in a dimly lit corner, even right behind the player. In the same vein, Layers Of Fear 2 uses such jump-scares abundantly, propping mannequins up in cordoned-off rooms and against dusty furniture. These bizarre figures seemingly trail the main character wherever he goes, a tortured actor seeking inspiration for a prestigious role in his latest film.

With the possible exception of a well-chosen book, I reckon nothing complements a good vehicle simulator or digital wargame better than an apt museum. Prior commitments meant I couldn’t spend International Museum Day surrounded by game-illuminating exhibits, but a few days later I made the short trip to a local museum knowing I’d return enthused and educated.

Recently reopened after a 2.6 million pound revamp, the Army Flying Museum nestles on the edge of an active Army Air Corps airfield in central southern England. While it’s a lot smaller than better known English aviation museums such as Duxford, Cosford, and Hendon, it tells a fascinating story that none of its larger peers tell, and does it with a collection dotted with exhibits you won’t find elsewhere. Whenever I visit I always seem to emerge with a head full of game ideas, and a slight feeling of surprise. The game industry’s obsession with the RAF, the Battle of Britain in particular, means some of the most interesting chapters in British military aviation have yet to be ludologised! (more…)

Ah, the sweet smell of another May bank holiday on the horizon. Wait, no, that’s not the bank holiday smell. That’s… the smell of roasted politicians, existential fear and the UK collapsing in on itself. Hooray! Today is a day late because I was a) busy yesterday and b) the playthrough ended up being a pretty good cliffhanger for the weekend. It seems that the extremely long timeline over which I’ve ended up playing this may have interrupted the natural flow of the game.

Here, after over a month (but which should have been three weeks), we see that Marty Burnham is considering what we may call her ultimate choice.

Arma 3 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

The straight-faced military simulation of Arma 3 will get a little weirder with its next expansion, named Contact, where serious soldiermen will encounter and investigate aliens. Expect strange lights in the sky, unknown aircraft, strange energy signatures, glowing orbs, the lot. It doesn’t look like some kooky Stalin vs. Martians nonsense, mind, treating first contact with a suspected alien species seriously. Which sounds pretty great to me. It brings a big new sandbox map, with 163 square kilometres of kinda-real-ish Eastern Europe, for regular Arma activities too. Anyway, here, come meet some aliens in the announcement trailer.
