Canny Apex Legends have figured out a way to get crafting materials from levelling up the Battle Pass instead of loot boxes: by pretending to be in Belgium, a country which has cracked down on loot boxes. This results in a slightly smaller overall reward but materials do let players craft specific skins rather than hoping for blind luck with the boxes. All you have to do is change the region in your Origin account settings, not any fiddly VPN shenanigans, which doesn’t affect where you can play either. I would not be too surprised to see EA try to block this trick.

Without the Shanghai Dragons playing this week, I thought it might finally be the week I didn t cry at the Overwatch League. But I forgot that there was an ex-Dragon, still yet to win, continuing his losing streak on struggling expansion team Washington Justice. And thanks to Chon Ado Gihyeon, despite it being the final week before playoffs, it once again became one in which the underdogs were the biggest story.

As they turn 50 this year, Japanese developers and publishers Konami have announced three collections bagging up a number of former glories: Contra side-scrolling shooters, a big of old arcade games, and the metroidvania series Castlevania. Konami haven’t yet revealed the full contents of the Contra and Castlevania collections, but so far they’re very much leaning towards the early days. Hey, when I turn fifty, I expect I too will settle into a quiet and contended life of dining out on former glories.

Season 1 is here, and leading the charge is Octane – the new character for Apex Legends, and the most mobile Legend we’ve yet seen. The trailer below describes Octane as being able to run rings around enemies, and, having played as much as possible of him since Season 1’s release, they’re certainly on the money. This might just be my new favourite character, and our Apex Legends Octane guide will help you to better understand his abilities and the high- ahem, –octane> playstyle you’ll need to adopt with him to succeed.

Two Tribes are perhaps best known for making great puzzle games involving tiny yellow chickens, but they sure as heck know how to make great puzzles games about cubes, too.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Siege - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Ubisoft are changing how team-killing affects players in Rainbow Six Siege, with a new “reverse friendly fire” system rolling out on the test servers soon, described in this dev-blog post. If you manage to murder one of your friends in the twitchy tactical shooter (easy to do accidentally), the player you whacked will get a kill-cam showing them exactly what happened. At this point, it would be prudent to apologise, as your victim will get to decide whether to let you off the hook, or whether you’ll spend the rest of the match with cursed bullets that bounce off buddies and back into your own face.
