Update 1.07

Today we are releasing the version 1.07 of Hex Defense.
Plenty of minor adjustments and bugfixes were addressed.

Here are the patch notes:
  • Updated the version of SteamVR to 2.2;
  • This fixed the issue regarding the controllers being duplicated once pressing the steam menu.
  • The local movement is now more dynamic.
  • Corrected glitch in towers upon creation.
  • Improved enemy AI, this will lower the late game fps drops.

The Subject - DarkStoneDigital
Hey all! I'm sorry it's taken so long but as you know, being a solo developer makes things take longer than usual.

I'm happy to say that I have ported The Subject over to Linux! I have tested on my local Linux machine as best I could. I have successfully tested the game on Ubuntu 18.10 and have pushed the build to Steam.

Now that The Subject is on Linux, support will slow down a tad for The Subject as I continue work on my next co-development title The Deallocation with Reflect Studios and my next solo project (an escape room yet to be announced)

I hope you enjoy the game and thank you so much to the supporters who have purchased the game so far. Take care everyone!

Features:
- The Wizard Ancient items have changed. They now go up to rank 8 and have many new abilities and features. This is the first of the new character class revamps with builds.
- If you are a Wizard, your attributes and ancient items have been reset and your gold refunded.
- There will be other dropped ancient items which will support these builds, but they aren't in yet.
- I've changed ancient item ranking message on pop-up to be more specific instead of just 'not enough gold'. It now says 'gold' or 'orbs' or 'both' depending on which.
- I have changed armor for Monsters. Monsters randomly had armor before, but now they all have armor.
- Armor is scaled on level. There is almost no armor in Normal difficulty (13 armor at level 30) and ramps quite a bit at the end (330 at level 100).
- Armor is a direct reduction to damage per bolt. Sadly, this could be a big nerf to spray wands, but we will see.
- Note: Armor was in the game before and was a reduction to damage per bolt, but the armor values scaled differently, so you may not notice much change.
- To counteract monster armor, I have added an armor penetration stat. It is displayed in the character info and can be a random affix.
- I have changed the boring affix to be a random value of armor penetration instead of straight 50% armor reduction/penetration.

Version "02/21/2019 21:45:44" (on the BIOS) is up. It'll be 22:03:03 for insiders.

A few minor changes/fixes:
  • Increased the difficulty of a few of the Shard Stars (the "third star" that becomes available when a level is cleared). See 2-3, "The Squareshank Shapedemption", for one example.

    One reason for this is that, in some levels, the shards might be way too easy to collect because the level layout doesn't call for any sort of challenging ways to place them. Easy is fine once in a while, because some levels are hard enough that clearing them in the first place makes you deserving of more stars. And a break!

    But there shouldn't be many cases of "just enter the level again and grab the shards because they're just right there," because that would defeat the purpose.

  • Fixed a crash that occurs clearing 3-10, because 4-1 doesn't exist in the "shareware" version. If you encountered this, the game shouldn't think that you're on 4-1 any longer, and you should be able to play again. Please leave a comment if it still does.

  • Removed the splash screen, because the DOS bootup screen is basically one anyway. Credits and "Special Thanks" will be given in-game soon.

  • On selecting "Play", the game now takes you straight to the last level you were on... at least for now. Because loading the level select screen too quickly after just launching the game causes crashing, and we haven't pinpointed the issue just yet. We'll be fixing it "for real," of course, but in the meantime you we think you should have as bug-free an experience as possible. Plus, you're getting to the action a fraction of a second earlier!

  • Clearing a level takes you back to the Level Select screen, with the next level highlighted. This is more intuitive than the "Where next?" menu while also giving a clear-cut way to allow you to re-enter a level, or choose another one, pretty quickly.

Making sure that the game is actually playable -- cutting out those crashes -- is still top priority. We don't want to release any paid content until those are fixed. Because even though we're still in Early Access, it's simply not fair to pay for something that doesn't work like it should.

There will be incremental updates even when those aren't fixed, though, because we don't want to hold back what will at least be in the free version. In the works are some graphical updates and music. Along with some of your feature suggestions... so keep those coming!

Were happy to release another update. This update contains many improvements, bugs fixes, and some design changes based on community feedback.

This update has fixes for a large amount of base raid balance issues. We'll continue to monitor raid balance and appreciate everyone's feedback.

There are farming life improvements. As wells now produce normal water. And farm tools allow multiple grid size selections.

We also updated the Presidents power position. He now can set an additional tax on the shipping bin of up to 20%. This is to give the President more income earning ability, as the property tax did not produce very much on its own. We also removed the cannon spawn and artillery shell spawn from the President as we received and understand the feedback was that it was too overpowered and he should research and craft it.

We are taking the servers down and rolling them back up in order to process the update. This update should not require a wipe.

Here are the changes for Alpha 9:

- Damage resistances have been properly added to all building materials & building sets as they were not properly working before. This fixes numerous issues that occurred with melee weapons and ranged weapons. Concrete is now properly only damageable by explosives and decay.
- Added "Bore" damage type for melee weapons that used to have pierce damage. This helps us balance melee and ranged weapons that both used to be pierce.
- Added damage types to melee weapons that were missing them.
- Clay & stone building materials/sets have had their bash resistances updated.
- Upon dynamite being used, land now says sieged.

- The president can now tax sales in the shipping bin by up to 20%, receiving part of these profits.
- Removed cannons and artillery shells from presidential box

- Reduced initial startup load times
- Make the follow camera not fight with orbit camera
- Specific small animals won't disappear when removed from a player's party.

- Resource nodes are now re-balanced per a biome.
- Hoe’s & rakes upgrades can now affect multiple grid areas.
- All watering pots/can’s now use the same amount of water per use.
- Sprinklers no longer disable the farm grid view
- Shoveling will properly get the biome when a position is repeatedly shoveled
- Offset farm models to be above tesselation

- Sturdy Wood Stool blueprint unlock cost have been correctly updated.
- Steel Sledgehammer blueprint unlock cost have been correctly updated.
- Increased the stamina of horses to 40, up from 30.
- Wells produce normal water, making them much more useful for crafting.
- Stake blueprint unlock cost has been correctly updated.

- Fix desync with president pool
- Same guild lockpicking properly shows container contents
- Fix possible issue with duplicates being added to pages
- Land Security now properly uses bounds
- Fixed the air placement to prevent placing of floating objects

- Fix weirdness with furniture and security
- Furniture uses proper colliders
- Can no longer lock chairs
- Outhouses use security properly

- Made it so disconnection popups are even more reliable then before.
- Many fixes for server exceptions that made very large obnoxious log files.
- Updated the server console to provide some more stability when restarting and monitoring the process if it freezes.
