Rock, Paper, Shotgun - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear. What a horrible story there must be to tell of the last six or so years of Crackdown 3‘s development, if the result of all that time is this wet tissue of a game. A bland, woefully dated, aimless and deeply derivative open city, which somehow can’t even be saved by the presence of Terry Crews.

Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Jay Castello)

Conquer em up turn-based strategy game Civilization VI adds a flood of new content today with the Gathering Storm expansion including literal floods. Climate change is here, it’s bringing natural disasters, and it s probably your fault for getting too greedy with the factories while trying to outpace Pericles.

Luckily, new diplomatic solutions are also arriving, so everyone will agree to work together and save the planet. Right?

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Siege - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

Rainbow Six Siege’s got a couple of new operators coming within the next few weeks, kick starting Year 4 of updates. So before then it’s probably best to learn what each of the other operators does in the game as of the most recent update. They all have unique abilities, as well as their own gadgets and weapons. In this guide hub, we’ll be looking at all the various operators to see how they stack up today; making recommendations about who to use if you’re new, as well as detailing which operators they have advantages over, and the latest updates within the affected operators. Far Cry® 5 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

In many ways, Far Cry New Dawn is the most Far Cry game the series has turned out. Sure, the apocalypse may have ushered in an era of goons with health bars and levels. But there s also a bit where you take some drugs so you can survive a boat ride to a man who gives you more drugs, in order to punch a bear that represents your soul.

It s also got a blummin’ double jump.

It’s very difficult to pick a favourite moment out of the unsightly behemoth that was Might & Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven. It may have been when I went on a murder-hobo rampage through the starting town of New Sorpigal, killing every peasant, every guard, every trader; and then heading to the temple and donating gold until my reputation had improved from “Notorious” back to “Respectable”.

Or it may have been that fateful moment where, due to a simple misclick, I accidentally mixed one potion with another in my inventory and caused a chemical explosion that instantly killed my entire party.

Bone-pulverising bike crash ’em up Trials Rising will be free to try next weekend, from Thursday, February 21st to Sunday, February 25th, leading directly into its launch. Presumably to get some new blood on board (if you like past Trials games, this one seems similar), Ubisoft are inviting the great un-mangled public to give their motorcycle platformer a try. Bring a friend, too, for the ridiculous and likely even more lethal tandem bike mode. Below, a trailer showing off some of the things developers Redlynx have planned for the game after its launch on February 26th.

NEO Scavenger - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Living in space sounds like a claustrophobic nightmare, and Ostranauts isn’t doing much to change my opinion on the matter. Billed as a “noir spaceship-life sim”, it’s the next from Neo Scavenger studio Blue Bottle Games, and set in the same universe. Earth is completely screwed by forces both man-made and cosmic, so players get to manage a small ship, trying to make ends meet in a solar system in the throes of (very) late capitalism. The game’s full nature is still a mystery, but it’s reminding me of The Sims, Duskers and Space Station 13. Take a peek at the teaser trailer below.

AUDICA: Rhythm Shooter - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

I really need to buy a VR headset soon. I’ve had the chance to play some of Beat Saber and Space Pirate Trainer on borrowed hardware and loved both – now prolific rhythm studio Harmonix are mashing those concepts together and calling it Audica. One colour-coded space-gun in each hand, blue and orange targets to shoot to the beat and the occasional oncoming meteorite to slash with your laser-bayonets. It’s simple on paper, but looks, to me, at least, like enormous fun, and is due to hit early access on March 7th – see how it looks below, in the mixed reality debut trailer.
