Ion Fury - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Sarah James)

Retro FPS Ion Maiden‘s latest early access update, ‘Heskel’s House of Horrors’ is now live on Steam, adding a big, new level to Voidpoint’s 90s-styled shooter.

The new trailer shows off the same unapologetic carnage but this time set in the titular Heskel’s House of Horrors. (more…)

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

A nighttime version of the snowy map Vikendi is coming Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, and today is live on the test server so we can have a peek. The moonlight variant, which is picked at random, is darker but far from pitch black, illuminated by a full moon and the rippling green aurora borealis. What a beautiful night to murder 99 people. The update will also bring a tracked snowbike to Vikendi, as well as a new submachine gun to Vikendi and Erangel.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 will let you respawn in Blackout–providing at least one member of your squad is halfway decent, or lucky–in a new limited time mode that’s joining the battle royale later today.

‘Down But Not Out’ is set to go live at 6pm GMT and will be squads-only. The new mode will allow players to respawn with each Collapse, as long as at least one of your squad is still alive. (more…)

Bethesda have denied a rumour that Fallout 76 is preparing to go free-to-play. Launched in November 2018, their multiplayer survival sandbox scored a ‘noncommittal, wavy gesture of the hands and forearms accompanied by an exclamatory exhalation’ out of 10, a score further lessened by bugs and leaking personal information and bugs and skimping on the 175 edition. While the rumour was based on hearsay and assumption, it rang true to enough people to rocket down the information superhighway.

“There is no truth to this rumour,” Bethesda said simply on Twitter last night in response to one player’s question. Yeah but they would say that, wouldn’t they? Ipso facto it’s going F2P QED lorem ipsum, Frankenstein.

Monster Hunter: World - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

Everybody knows man was the real monster all along. We can’t do tail-whips though, so we’re not nearly as fun to fight. Modder “UberGrainy” has instead plopped the xenomorph queen from Aliens into Monster Hunter: World, letting you go toe to toe with the double-mouthed mother of fear.

We all knew this was coming. Dragon Age: Inquisition came out in 2014, and they finally teased the new one, which means I am officially allowed to go back to this RPG well of mine.

Sonar Beat - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Here a short and sweet little something to tide you over til’ Wednesday – Sonar Beat is a creative-looking little rhythm game by Life Zero. Released today, it costs less than a cup of mediocre coffee. There’s some story here about defeating enemies attacking a super-secret submarine, but the truth is that it’s all rather relaxing, audio and visual-wise. Notes appear on your sonar screen, and you click, tap or hold buttons depending on their type as they pass under your scan. Take a peek at the launch trailer below.

Today’s Humble Caffeine Bundle is chock full of very good games for very little money, but a little hard to categorise. United under the banner of Caffeine – a “social broadcasting platform for gaming”, not the life-giving stimulant – there’s eight games here, each one representing a wildly different genre. We’ve got the Metroidy Headlander, platform roguelike Gonner, party game tank shooter Treadnauts, a historical novel adaptation and even a ninja stealth sim all up in here. There’s only (in my opinion) one game that’s not immediately worth your attention. See the full lineup and trailers below.

FutureGrind - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Future sports are just terribly unsafe – today’s case in point is FutureGrind, just released today. Dangling your fancy future motorcycle from inconsistently placed rails is bad enough, but if you let the wrong bit hit the wrong colour-coded surface, you just explode. Milkbag Games’s latest is a health and safety nightmare, but a compelling concept for a game. Looking a bit like a blend of one of Redlynx’s Trials games and a score-chasing skateboard ’em up, I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one, though haven’t had the chance to play it myself. Check out a very neon trailer below.

Today on the segment we call Things That Are Kinda Unpleasant Because That’s The Point Okay we have Brownie Cove Cancelled, a wee first-person wanderer about waiting in an airport for a flight that keeps getting further delayed. At first it’s nice to have time to potter around, to grab a snack and check out the airport’s graveyard or petting zoo with ambulant hoverfish, but eventually… the drudgery of waiting hits. That’s what this is best at. Brownie Cove Cancelled nicely invokes the noise and tiredness and boredom and faint surrealness of being stuck in an airport.
