You can opt in the beta branch to start testing the English subtitles! They are on by default but we will implement a menu to toggle them once we have tested thoroughly and fixed minor problems with them. More languages are coming as well, the first round will be the following:
We have been working tirelessly on an implementation of subtitles that is both comfortable and useful in a narrative game like ours. As some of you might know there are problems with VR implementation of subtitles that make it a much harder task to solve than in regular pancake games.
From VAC (vergence accommodation conflict) when the subtitles are rendered at a "wrong" depth in 3D space, to having the subtitles attached to the HMD movements in a jarring way. We opted for placing subtitles in 3D space around the environment in an artisanal way, more work for us but hopefully a better solution for everyone. It is not perfect but we think it might be a good compromise.
We want to test them and fix the problems you might find with them, so let us know! (lots of them and lots of manual work was involved so some bugs might be present)
Just uploaded v4.5, which fixes a lot more script bugs and adds some desert trees to the map South of Pochutla. I still haven't fixed the bug where spaces at the end of script lines causes an error, but hopefully I will fix that before New Years and upload v4.5B.
Anyway, I heard some complaints about how opening the ability menu breaks the flow of the game, and if you are not directly looking at the target, you have to close the ability menu, redirect the camera, and open it again (kinda awkward). It is the reason I didn't have an inventory window, because I don't want the game to pause in the middle of the action. I could make two separate buttons to open the ability window to choose, and another to actually use the ability so that the action doesn't stop every time you use the ability. The problem is that means there will be another key.
Yay or nay?

We'd like to emphasize our gratitude towards all the amazing people that offer us a hand in hunting bugs and typos. Our community is EVERYTHING! Although we're not always able to do exactly what every particular fan or customer wants, we're always trying to solve the problem they've pointed out.
Speaking of that, how's our 18+ DLC doing? Not well, actually. (But there's a scratch for your itch! Check our Twitter to find out more of what's available right now.) We're still trying our best to deliver an official Steam patch, yet the future is unclear and we can't affect any decisions the store makes. At the moment, rolling a DLC out will get us into the Adult Only category. Our base game has no AO content in it, so that'd clearly be a misplacement resulting in less visibility for the product and more upset customers who never got a proper facesitting. Now, have you visited our Twitter yet?
If you did, you probably already know we're planning to get you some new languages pretty soon. We should manage to deliver German before the sale goes off, Spanish and Chinese will follow in the next few months.
And that's it for the moment!
Thank you so much for your attention and feedback! Stay tuned for the further updates and make sure to stay comfy and amused during the holidays!
The Gamblers and Devils who reached Rank 1 will be rewarded on December 31, 3pm PST. At this time point, our entire studio is working on the dedicated server version. To prepare the dedicated server of the game, we decided to suspend the 5th season for a short period from January 1 until further notice.
During the week of 12/19 to 12/26 we held a special charity drive to multiply the donations made by purchasing The Endless Empty. All sales of the game were met in price by Lord of Envy and Thee Fallen1 from 1 of 1 gaming, as well as a third mysterious supporter (my dadːsteamhappyː).
We had $122 worth of sales during the week, adding up to a bonus donation of $366 to the Trevor Project! Big thank you to everyone who bought the game during the event and an extra special thank you to Lord of Envy and Thee Fallen1.
