Euro Truck Simulator 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alec Meer)

For some American or Euro Truck Simulatorettes, as I’ve decided we pretend long-distance haulage fans should call ourselves, news of a new type of vehicle or trailer is reason to celebrate. For me, the most excited I’ve ever been about American Truck Sim patch notes is the declaration that they’ve just made rain better.

Far Cry® 5 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dave Irwin)

Post-apocalypse seems to be the in thing right now, with the likes of Rage 2 on the horizon. However it seems Ubisoft wants in on this particular trend of neon-punk dystopian first-person shooters, as Far Cry: New Dawn splashes Hope County with shades of fuchsia and lime. We’ll go over everything we know in this little summary guide, from the release date, to the trailers and the editions of the game that are available.

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Wee plastic soldiers will wage war across a messy house this Christmas – and in Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. The ‘realistic’ multiplayer first-person shooter today launches its festive event with a pleasingly self-descriptive name, Toy Soldier Green Army Men Christmas Special. There are green toy army men, and it’s Christmas, and it’s special. The smooth soldiers will scamper along Hot Wheels tracks, have firefights in a model village, hide behind presents under the Christmas tree, and probably have more than a few accidents with the toy train chugging around. Charming. Have a peek in the trailer below.

This advent calendar doesn’t function on its own, you know. There are a bunch of us in here cranking levers, jumping up and down on switches, hurriedly shovelling words into furnaces. All so you can open day 11 and find out what’s inside…

Clatter - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

Into The Breach was fine and all, but it didn’t have nearly enough robots. Not proper ones. Fortunately, Facepunch – the Rust and Garry’s Mod devs – have made a game about fighty non-oxidised robo-pals. Clatter pits robo-teams against each other in primarily multiplayer matches, playing a turn-based future-sport put on for crowds of smiley-faced cubes. I’ve had one game so far, and it seems promising.

Kenshi - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alec Meer)

I could, I suspect, dash myself against Kenshi‘s wind-bleached rocks for a full year and still feel ill-qualified to pass judgement upon it. You might as well ask me to review atmospheric pressure, or continental drift.

Kenshi is everything. Kenshi is nothing. Kenshi just is>.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matthew Castle)

There is a moment in Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments where the detective has to identify a brand of cigar. This scent is familiar to me, but in order to recognise it, I must combine my associations into one picture, he says. You find yourself swivelling a stink cloud, aligning its wafting lines into a hidden image. Problem is, Holmes nose deals in broad stereotypes – it locates the stogie as Mexican in origin by arranging the smell into a picture of a sombrero. That legendary sombrero smell that all Mexicans have. I believe this one comes from Conan Doyle s beloved story, The Case Of The Horribly Misjudged Minigame.

I’m starting to think that Beyond Good And Evil 2 might just pull it off. In their latest showcase video and lengthy developer stream, Ubisoft Montpellier give us our broadest, clearest look at their game of fanciful open-world bandes dessin es-styled space piracy. In what’s starting to look a bit like Mass Effect but in a vastly more interesting setting, we get a peek at some early ground combat, space travel, puttering around on a hoverbike and even going for an orbital space-walk. There’s an early look at co-op, crew recruitment systems and plenty of tasty little details. Take a peek below.

DOOM II - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

It’s Doom‘s 25th birthday, and Id’s classic FPS has grown up along with me. While I’ve enjoyed modern iterations such as 2016’s reboot, the original’s ever-mutating open source foundation and lively mod scene just won’t let me go. When John Romero announced he was releasing a nine-level Doom episode built to 1993 spec, I shrugged, because that pales in comparison to what the Doom community have built this year. Let’s dig into the winners of the 2018 Cacowards, Doomworld’s annual mod ceremony, including some standalone, freeware games – no Doom mod experience needed.

DUSK - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

It might be Doom’s birthday today, but its enthusiastic young cousin Dusk is invited to the party, bunny-hopping out of early access today. They grow up so fast, and David Szymanski’s shooter has grown another two episodes in size since its debut in August last year, introducing new monsters and places to kill them in, plus a remarkably fun (if twitchy) deathmatch mode. The game has technically been complete in early access for a few days now. I got to play the final few levels over the weekend and loved them to bits. A launch trailer and my quick thoughts on the full game are below.
