WARBORN - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

I feel compelled to root for Warborn, if only because it’s helping reclaim hex-based strategy from the po-faced grognard brigade. Announced earlier this week by tiny studio Raredrop Games, it’s about giant humanoid robots with laser swords and pilots that probably shout their own attack names. Not quite Super Robot Wars (now there’s a series I’d love to see on PC), but I’ll take it. Raredrop aren’t willing to guess at a release date outside of a vague “2019” yet, but there’s a nice announcement trailer with a suitably over-the-top vocal theme below. No karaoke subtitles though.

Jets'n'Guns 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Dodging bullets and aiming are all well and good, but sometimes it’s just nice to press the fire button and have everything> explode – Jets’n’Guns 2 looks to offer plenty of that kind of catharsis. The messy shmup sequel has been in the works for over two years now, and developers Rake In Grass aren’t cutting corners. They estimate there’s another full year of work to be done, but they’ll be bringing in the fans to help tune it as they go. While they’ve not got a day pinned down, it’ll launch as early access next month. Check out some early festive work-in-progress footage below.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

The next bit of DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is due to launch next week, and will expand the already-massive truck ’em up to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, as well western parts of Russia and southern Finland. Another thirteen thousand kilometres of new roads to explore, say developers SCS Software. The day they figure out how to just import Google Maps into the game, I swear we’ll lose a few thousand people to Truck Fever. Until then, Beyond The Baltic Sea looks like the next best thing. It’s out November 29th. Enjoy the folk-metal-infused (yet relaxing) trailer below.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

To celebrate the American post-Thanksgiving retail hellday of Black Friday (which seems to be done in the UK too now?), the fab DRM-free ‘indie’ store Itch.io is not holding a sale. No big sitewide discounts. No queues. No doorbusters. Instead, they’re simply donating their cut of sales to charity. That’s the Itch.io Black Friday Not-Sale. They’ll give their portion to The Nature Conservancy, who are trying to protect this blue marble we live on, and The Trevor Project, who help LGBTQ youth in America. Itch have plenty of games I’ve happily bought full-price so hey, why not today?

Rapture Rejects - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

The battle royale genre is as ferocious a brawl as any Fortnite match, and you really need a hook to survive. Rapture Rejects has several – for starters, it’s isometric and cartoony, instead of being yet another first or third-person tactical head-clicker. Second, it’s based on scattershot and frequently edgy webcomic and cartoon series Cyanide & Happiness, though your mileage may vary on whether that’s a perk or a reason to steer clear. Either way, it’s launching into early access next Thursday, November 29th and developed by Explosm and Galvanic Games.

SMITEĀ® - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

Hi-Rez, the developers of Smite and Paladins, don t have it easy. They compete head-on with Blizzard s juggernauts; with their fingers stuck in the same hero-shooter-flavoured pies the comparisons are inevitable, and rarely favourable. Depending on whose questionable extended metaphors you listen to, you might hear it argued that they spend their time looking at where their competitors fingers are, and then follow suit.

You might also hear that their games can be uneven, or poorly managed. Some of that rings true, though much is hyperbole. Hi-Rez have made a few missteps, but that s partly because they take a lot of steps in general.
