The game we expect to be Diablo IV was once looking like a Dark Souls-ish over-the-shoulder affair, according to sources speaking to Kotaku, though that plan was dropped a few years back. The report says it’s currently going isometric with a Diablo II-ish gritty look, but this too may change and… you get the picture. Supposedly that’s why Blizzard didn’t talk about Diablo IV at BlizzCon this month, instead announcing mobile game Diablo Immortal: it wasn’t ready enough, too much is in flux, and after the failure of their somehow-never-announced MMO Titan, they don’t want to rush it.

The Smite and Paladins World Championships didn’t get off to an impressive start. Several thousand fans gathered around several adjacent screens occupying the back wall of Dreamhack Atlanta, each blasting out hype reels with near identical scripts. It was cookie-cutter drama played in disconcerting semi-stereo, leaving me uncomfortable in half a dozen different ways.

I know I bang on about the Steelseries Arctis 7 a lot, but it is truly the best gaming headset I’ve ever had – and now it’s going for as little as 90 over at Currys as part of this year’s Black Friday bonanza. That’s the lowest price it’s ever been in the UK (lower, even, than it’s ever been on Amazon, too, according to CamelCamelCamel), making this a Black Friday headset deal too good to pass up.

Sorry, not those kind of ducks. Even better ducks! In a Battlefield first, as of Battlefield V‘s next patch you’ll be able to dodge behind cover when you’re in a tank’s top gunner slot. It’s one of those minor tweaks that could wind up having a major impact, encouraging more people to hop into bullet-spewing death machines. I imagine you’ll still get sniped a lot, which I’m fine with as the person usually doing the sniping.

That’s the news, pretty much. Now, I’ve got some beef with Origin and bugs.

Assassin s Creed Odyssey is a proper action-RPG, complete with romance opportunities, conversation trees, branching storylines, and bales of soft material to leap into from improbable heights. While well-written and expansive, much of the story s appeal can be laid at the feet of its charismatic leads. Greek actors Michael Antonakos and Melissanthi Mahut provide the voices and performance capture for Alexios and Kassandra, bringing the characters to life with unexpected nuance (as previously chronicled by some handsome, overworked soul). As a game developer myself, my only question after sinking dozens of hours into it is: how. How do the protagonists remain distinct, internally cohesive, and roughly equivalent, across thousands of lines of the same script?

So I asked Antonakos and Mahut themselves, who taught me about Ubisoft s craft in producing games on a massive scale, and the methods the actors used to make each hero their own.
