For The King - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

There’s only one force known to man that can improve board-game-like strategic RPG For The King, and that force is pirates. They’ll be swinging on board November 21st as part of the Into The Deep update, equipped with new gun-class weapons and with other NPCs (friendly and not-so-friendly) on their tail. If the trailer’s anything to go by, there is a lot of shooting people on boats.

Do what you want, because the pirates are free. Yar, Har, fiddle dee-dee.

I don t know if you ve noticed, but there s something funny going on this morning. There are hundreds of dead frogs on the pavement, a ship made of fingernails just sailed into harbour, and there’s already been two posts about zombie games. Now listen, I m no expert (all of those mysteriously disappeared last night) but it feels like something big is happening. Something big and not good. Let me check the RPS calendar.

Oh, it s Apocalypse Day.

Good luck boyos.

The four of us are standing in a descending elevator, each grasping a holdall of supplies. We re preparing to make one final, treacherous push through a warehouse of shambling flesh nibblers to our getaway truck. The sudden excitement in the chat log clues me in to the upcoming danger. To be honest, I think most of it is for my benefit. Before we got in this elevator, I d wandered off from my three highly coordinated teammates to the survivor they had cleverly told to wait in a corner, commanded her to follow me, and accidentally led her straight into bitey land. Her succinct, haunting requiem is still burnt in my memory, just as it appeared in the top right corner of the screen:

Lel. Rip

Eternity's Child Demo - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

There’s a long, dark future ahead of Scott Cawthon and his Five Nights At Freddy’s series. In a blog-post on Steam today, the creator of the teen jump-scare horror phenomenon announced everything he could speak about regarding the future of the series. There’s an upcoming VR game made in collaboration with Steel Wool Studios, an Augmented Reality game (presumably only for phones), and a new free game planned called FNAF: Into Madness currently on the drawing board, but still, nice of him. Plus, a big-budget game, although still also only in the planning phase.

Lost In Vivo is a first-person horror game launched last month by Akuma Kira and clearly influenced by Silent Hill. You explore dark tunnels, solve puzzles, fight strange creatures and search for your missing dog. That’s spooky enough by itself, but last night Gloomwood developer Dillon Rogers and Dusk developer David Szymanski got more than they bargained for – quite literally – while playing through the game. They tried playing it after midnight, and it transformed into something else entirely. Below, a trailer and a peek at the strangeness that was uncovered in the night.

Monster Hunter: World - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Dominic Tarason)

Don’t let the blue sparkles and cool demeanour fool you – Monster Hunter: World‘s next permanent addition, Lunastra, is even more fiery than her mate Teostra. Announced today, this new dragon will be coming to Monster Hunter: World on Thursday, November 22nd. Unlike the last update, which gave us a time-limited (though due to reoccur) battle against Kulve Talvoth, she’ll be a new and constant threat, and frequently paired with her other half, opening up new and powerful tag-team attacks for the duo. Below, the original console trailer for this blue meanie.

Warframe - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Katharine Castle)

Warframe‘s new Fortuna expansion is finally here, providing the perfect excuse for players old and new to dust off their Tenno armour and head out into the never-before-seen frozen wastes of Venus’ Orb Vallis region. It’s the second open world map that’s been added to the game since last year’s Plains of Eidolon update, but given the number of performance issues people encountered the first time they ventured into out onto those titular plains, there’s been much consternation over whether Fortuna will also be too much for some PCs to handle.

Fortunately (sorry), I’m here to help, as I’ve been chucking a bunch of today’s best graphics cards at it, as well as a handful of older ones I’ve got knocking around, to see how it fares. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know on how to get the best settings for Warframe’s Fortuna update, as well as what you need to do in order to squeeze every last drop of performance out of your trusty graphics card.

Crusader Kings 2 has always played fast and loose with historical accuracy, but the random world generator in its next expansion, Holy Fury (due tomorrow) lets Paradox really get wild>. Covered over on PC Gamer by the familiar-sounding Fraser Brown, poking around in the world generation settings can reveal the hidden ‘Animal Kingdom’ option. It replaces most (if not all) humans with talking animals great, small and mythological. Elephant empires, dragon duchies and cat caliphates, oh my. Check out a feature roundup and a YouTuber’s peek at this mode below.
